Sen. Kennedy falls ill; taken to Boston hospital by helicopter

HYANNIS -- U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport.

Hyannis fire responded to the compound after a call was made around 8:30 a.m. It's unclear what Kennedy's medical condition is, but after he spent almost two hours in the emergency room a decision was made to transfer him to Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Kennedy, 76, was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out to the MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. where it took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport.

The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.

Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.

A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.

Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate for forty-three years.

He was elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy, who was elected president in 1960.

Since then, Kennedy has been re-elected to seven full terms, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.

I’m surprised they made him wait for two hours at the emergency room like us common folk.

Maybe they thought they had him stabilized when he suddenly had a turn for the worse.

Well, you know... No one likes to lose a family member, or have them hurt. So, Prayers to the family.

No, he’s not kidding. I just heard him say the same thing. I was wondering how long it would take the dems to bring that up.

I don’t like Senator Kennedy’s politics in any way, shape or form these days. I wish he had kept the pro-life stance that he took in the early 70’s. At any rate, I pray for his recovery and for God to watch over him.

Opening for Mitt in what regard? He’s not even a Democrat if you mean to fill in Teddy’s position... Are you suggesting he’d switch party affiliations yet again?

How many people does one have to kill before it is okay to attack a possibly dying man?

The fact that someone is taken to the hospital doesn’t change one whit what they have done in their lifetime.

YES, IT IS CENSORSHIP. THAT IS THE RIGHT WORD TO CALL IT.

You are free to go over to LibertyPost and dance around Ted Kennedy's sickbed if you wish. We don't want that here. So drop it. If you don't, I'm yanking this thread. I've got better things to do on a Saturday than repeatedly explain what should be obvious.

“I don’t know what’s going on with all the pulled post except that censorship on comments is riding high right now.”

I do.

First, Mr. Robinson has been ill, and not been on the threads much. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Second, the rest of his staff, his family, and the Mods, are doing the best they can to ensure the quality, the respect, the admiration that this site has had.

When we make our comments, we should remember this.

JIM ROBINSON has to wear every word on his sleeve, and is responsible for it all.

How do we want him, and this website, to be regarded?

Not surprised. The last few yrs it appeared to me his health wasn’t so good-bloated face, overweight, sickly palor.Known for many yrs as a hard drinker(rumored drug use as well).I’ve been in recovery for close to 20 yrs now and w/in that time worked with quite a few alcoholics(many late stage),and i’ve never understood the mentality of alcoholics who continue to drink and/or drug knowing full well that their addiction will ultimately kill them.As far as my opinion of Ted as a human being? No comment.

I would think the dumb Kennedy, the congressman, would move to Mass and take the throne.

It would take 2 hours to fully evaluate him. THere would be a CT or MRI, that takes approx 1/2 hour. He was likely intubated, that takes some time. Then the helicopter has to be summoned and arrive. Most likely that 2 hours was taken to stabilize and evaluate him. It would actually be moving fairly quickly to get all that done and have him on board the helicopter in 2 hours.
