Releases Contact: Brendan Daly/Nadeam Elshami 202-226-7616 For Immediate Release 05/16/2008 Pelosi Statement on President Bush’s Failure to Pressure Saudi Arabia to Increase Oil Production

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on record oil prices as news reports indicate that Saudi Arabian officials have rejected pleas from President Bush to increase oil production. In trading today, oil reached a record more than $127 a barrel:

“As record oil prices continue to burden American families and businesses, reports indicate that the President’s visit to Saudi Arabia today to push for increased production has failed. Despite considerable influence, the Bush Administration has been ineffective in pressuring Saudi Arabia and, yet again, has failed to effectively use diplomacy to exact short-term relief for American consumers.

“Next week, the New Direction Congress will send legislation to the President to suspend deliveries to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, a tool that has in the past reduced prices for consumers. As the President returns from the Middle East, I urge him to reverse his opposition and finally take this action, signing legislation that has passed the House and Senate by veto-proof margins.

"Next week, the House will also act on legislation that will extend and expand tax incentives to invest in renewable energy and create the green jobs of the future, as well as revised NOPEC legislation to crack down on OPEC-controlled entities and oil companies for oil price fixing.”

“As the President’s ‘drill and veto’ policies and diplomatic efforts with respect to OPEC have only led to increased gas prices, the New Direction Congress will continue to take legislative steps to help ease the pain at the pump.”

If stupid ever gets up to $100 a barrel I want the drilling rights to Nancy's head.

Even at $1 a barrel you could get rich.

I don't think there is a need for more oil’’ from OPEC, Qatari Oil Minister Abdullah al-Attiyah said in a telephone interview. ``My customers aren't asking for more oil.’’

Someone should kick his face in.

Tell her to dry up.

It is her party that wants us to cut back on oil consumption for ‘global warming’.

They always want to have it ‘both ways’.

Pelosi promised lower gas prices 4/24/06
http://socialize.morningstar.com/NewSocialize/forums/thread/2511408.aspx

Washington – Freedom’s Watch, a nonpartisan mainstream conservative issues advocacy organization, today called for a congressional inquiry for the purposes of identifying the whereabouts of a much ballyhooed yet elusive “commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices.” Two years ago today, then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, announced that in fact her party was in possession of exactly such a plan, yet as of today, not a single Member of Congress has stepped forward to reveal it.
“Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices…” (Nancy Pelosi, Press Release, 4/24/06)

Since the Democrats have taken control of the congress the price of oil and gas has doubled. During the previous six years prices varied but did not set records. Same is true of credit markets and mortgages. Everything exploded when the Democrats took over. No vision. No leadership. They can only snipe at Bush and obstruct his plans/programs. Pelosi and company have done nothing but obstruct plans to make change and talk down the economy every chance they get. No wonder they have an 18% approval rating. All this talk of Democrats winning big in November is premature given the low esteem in which they are held by the public.

So instead of drilling our own oil we should “pressure” overseas oil-drillers to sell at a price that we want?

Don’t blame just Pelosi for the incredibly moronic, stupid, imbecilic “thinking” going on here.

99% of Democrats and 67% of “Republicans” think the same way.

“Tell her to dry up.”

Nature did that already about 33 years ago. That is why she has such a prune face!

We've been pressuring Congress to dig in ANWAR, do some offshore drilling, build nuclear power plants, utilize clean coal technology.

No...the idiots go for our food supply. Now we have TWO problems, are doubley dependent, and are being taxed for negative results.

Because the liberals have irresponsibly prevented us from drilling for our own oil or building more refineries or nuclear power plants, they are now reduced to demanding that our president beg our enemies to pump more to bring down the price.

Jeesh.

"The more face time you get the more democrats will lose office. "

Sadly, the Republicans are getting blamed for this Congress.

They were not effective when in control.... could NOT get ANWR passed....., and now they are not effective as a minority...In making the Dems take the blame for Dem failings...

Also, play the dim's "If we are elected" '06 ads, "we will lower fuel prices" 24/7 at every fuel pump.

Remember, we had 4 years of Republican Control under GWB to get ANWR and a good energy policy passed.

We were torpedoed by our OWN party long before the Dems came to power and to do to us what we KNEW they would..

Pubbies including my own Congressman AND John McCain did this to us..

I doubt if our congress critters are smart enough to do that. But it would be nice if we froze their assets and refused to sell them anything. That would be 100% counter productive, but it sure get their attention.

Let’s see. The Saudis refused to lower oil prices when Bush talked with them. The Syrians decided to support Hezbolah’s coup against the Lebanese government after speaking with Pelosi. Who should be complaining about failure here?
