AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - A Dutch political cartoonist was arrested this week on suspicion of insulting people because of their race or religion through his work, authorities said Friday.

The cartoonist, who works under the pseudonym Gregorius Nekschot, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of violating hate speech laws and held overnight before being released, a spokeswoman for his publisher Uitgeverij Xtra said.

"He was arrested with a great show of force, by around 10 policemen," the spokeswoman said.

Resisting the Islamic invasion is a crime. Even with cartoons.

Notre Dame Cathedral will be a mosque in our lifetimes.

It’s a pity I lack the talent to draw ... I’d do so and encourage them to come arrest me.

Apparently, only Muslims have true freedom of speech in the Netherlands.

Good grief. It must have been like Reno "capturing" Elian Gonzalez. When the left attacks...

Sounds like a super-strength erectile dysfunction medicine.

At first, I thought this was from “The Onion” or “Scrappleface.”

Friggin’ unbelieveable.

Why don’t all the Dutch just convert to Islam and be done with it. Sheesh.

If I knew how to draw, I’d consider moving to Amsterdam just to piss off some liberals and some Muslims.

William Gaines (comic book publisher of EC titles like Mad and Tales From The Crypt) is rolling in his grave:

Jack Davis (who drew this originally and has gone on to do magazine covers from everything like Time to TV Guide and movie posters for films like It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World) is still alive. Someone should get a statement from him.

This sort of thing is really hard to believe, but it could beyou. American tourists should beware of what the Dutch really think of free thought and free speech.

Best to stay out of there and spend your money someplace else, maybe Poland, Slovenia, even Khazakstan.

I too had to check the source to make sure it was real and not satire.

This is the most disturbing and frightening thing I have read in a long time.

Two others on this particular thread have stated "if I could only draw myself"... I too, once thought that way, while the original "Cartoon Jihad" was ongoing. Then, I found an answer to *that* particular dilemma. I am now amking digital art of a decent quality that would certainly upset our Islamic master "wannabes", inasmuch as its the human figure galore, and largely female (O bismillah++! The Horror!! In your ear Abdul!)

Anyone desiring to join me in this particular "Crusade" (call it the Artist's Crusade) should send me a PM, and I'll give you the details of where to get started in flooding the net with decent quality art depicting the human, and animal forms that the repressed Mad mullahs, and assorted verimn of the Islamic stripe would go apoplectic over. It's not only time to stand with those who are being repressed for daring to freely express themselves, but high time to do a little expressing of our own, and broaden our personal lives and experiences on the way!!

What say you, fellow Freepers?

And why exactly isn’t the US protesting this? Where is the Bush administration issuing denunciations and demanding an explanation from the Dutch - whose nation we liberated from Nazi control and whose defense bill we have been paying for the last six decades? What happened to our insistence on human rights?

The US has spoken out “unofficially” on such matters in the past. Bill Clinton supported the prosecution of the cartoonists when they outraged the Islamic radicals.
