Gamers are always after that extra edge or a more immersive experience, and a recent brainwave from designer John Nillson claims to offer both.

Peripheral vision can only take you so far, so with the jDome you’ll get a far better view of baddies attempting to sneak up on you and the like.

It works by using a projector to send an image of the screen to the front of the dome, where it’s effectively wrapped around the edges to allow the gamer to look in and around.

Extravagant perhaps, but we think it’s one of the most innovative developments in gaming of recent years, provided it works. Best yet John reckons the product will retail for $125 to $200 provided he receives the proper funding to start mass production.

Is it called jDome because it is virtual or imaginary, as in j=-1^.5? One for mathematicians, physicists, and electrical engineers to ponder.

Actually, I think it would have to be j=(-1)^.5. Of course the computer language would have to recognize and navigate imiginary numbers for that statement to be valid anyway.

I suspect they didn’t call it the iDome because everything is I-This or i-That because of the Apple iPod.

i=SqRt (-1).......

I don’t know if the average first person shooter game does all that, and I didn’t mean to criticize all use of computers, and yes for many the computer is a huge fantasy world, certainly that is the case with lots of game play. And I like computer games.
