US soldier refuses to serve in 'illegal Iraq war' ["I was 'filet mignon' for recruiters......]

US soldier refuses to serve in 'illegal Iraq war' May 16 10:49 AM US/Eastern Matthis Chiroux is the kind of young American US military recruiters love.

"I was from a poor, white family from the south, and I did badly in school," the now 24-year-old told AFP.

"I was 'filet mignon' for recruiters. They started phoning me when I was in 10th grade," or around 16 years old, he added.

Chiroux joined the US army straight out of high school nearly six years ago, and worked his way up from private to sergeant.

He served in Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines and was due to be deployed next month in Iraq.

On Thursday, he refused to go, saying he considers Iraq an illegal war.

"I stand before you today with the strength and clarity and resolve to declare to the military, my government and the world that this soldier will not be deploying to Iraq," Chiroux said in the sun-filled rotunda of a congressional building in Washington.

"My decision is based on my desire to no longer continue violating my core values to support an illegal and unconstitutional occupation... I refuse to participate in the Iraq occupation," he said, as a dozen veterans of the five-year-old Iraq war looked on.

Minutes earlier, Chiroux had cried openly as he listened to former comrades-in-arms testify before members of Congress about the failings of the Iraq war.

I think they should let him stay out of Iraq and instead send him to the North Pole at a single man post. His job would consist of measuring the size of the polar bears on a daily basis.

What a hypocritical coward!!!!!
He volunteered, then he reenlisted and I'm sure got a big reup bonus out of it too. He has been cashing those paychecks for many years and now the cowardly bastard wants to quit because he is afraid to go to Iraq.!!!!!!
Read my tag line punk and then find you guts and some backbone.
He needs to be given a choice. Ship with his unit or do twenty years hard time in the stockade at Leavenworth. If you are afraid to stand up and be a man then don't go into the military, don't take their money, don't take their reenlistment bonuses, and don't take their GI BILL. When I look at all those who have died to buy us our rights it is easy to see what a cowardly punk this moron really is.

Yup.

Actually, if he wanted to refuse to serve in an illegal war, he should have saved his objection for a tour in Kosovo. He’d still end up in Ft. Leavenworth, but at least he’d be right on the point of international law.

“Wonder which left wing nut group paid him to do this?”

IVAW. He is a member in good standing. He claims he was a “photo journalist”. He claims he was “honarably discharged” after 4 years. He, most likely, was released from active duty, NOT discharged.

This guy has a thing for Keith Olberman on MSNBC. The Left's education for the masses has proven to be very effective. Unfortunately, that it not so for the Right. Somehow we've gotten lost and lost our collective strength of voice and lost our drive to articulate our position effectively.

If the Democrats happen to take the White House, I truly believe we will enter a very dark period of history in these United States, in which the LEFT will be in charge and they will do DAMAGE as only they can - truly believing they are totally right. It will not be a good time. And there are many "good people" out there who are Democrats. But it is the Democratic Party as a whole of which I speak. Oh yeah, and you can KISS THOSE TAX REBATES AWAY FOREVER !

I am not in, nor have I ever been in the military. This guy is on the left. Do they allow sergeants to grow their hair that long?

Pisses me off that the liebral media gives POS’s like this guy the time of day in print. It’s a non-story that only serves to try and help the liebrals in the elections and to help this chicken sh!t in the press.

Yes Leavenworth, nice time of the year. It’s one place where you start at the top and work your way down.

Back in WWII, refusal resulted in an automatic four years in a federal penitentiary.

So most of the both cowardly and fanatical would stay in, but once they made their intentions known, would be transferred to the Aleutian islands (long after the Japanese had been driven out of Attu and Kiska). This was also the destination for individuals who got loose tongues when drunk, and blabbed military secrets, or were just a tad too inquisitive about the wrong things.

Well, as they sat there, fending off frostbite and counting polar bear droppings, the US Army decided that they would be useful for something, so they created some truly inventive R&D projects for them.

One of these was to determine if soldiers could be trained to digest cellulose. Not having multiple stomachs and specialized bacteria to do this with, the overall result was the same as consuming a pound or more of Metamucil(tm) every day, along with their usual rations. Except that Metamucil(tm) is smooth.

Some wit later observed that these were some of the most “regular” army soldiers ever produced.
