Face of Defense: Mother, Son Prepare to Deploy to Kosovo Together
Face of Defence ^ | Spc. Lindsey M. Frazier, USA

CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind., May 15, 2008 – Many mothers sit at home and wonder what their deployed son or daughter is doing, hoping everything is all right and waiting for the next phone call. Some might see a mother deploying with her son as a great thing, but what onlookers might not think about is what is left back home.

Army National Guard Spc. Roschell Eaton of 3175th Military Police Company from Warrenton, Mo., knows this scenario all too well.

Eaton’s younger son, Devlin, a high school senior, is staying with his grandmother while she deploys with her elder son, Spc. Jason Hutchins, also an MP in the 3175th.

The mother-son National Guard duo from Troy, Mo., is in mobilization training here for their upcoming deployment as part of Kosovo Force 10, Multinational Task Force East. KFOR 10 is the 16th rotation in an ongoing peacekeeping operation to provide a safe and secure environment for all of Kosovo.

Eaton and her sons have never been apart; it has always been the three of them. She has raised the boys on her own since Jason was a toddler.

“We’re best friends,” Eaton said with a sigh. “But sometimes you have to leave the ones you love to do what you love.”

Eaton served eight years in the Navy before joining the Missouri Army National Guard. She began missing the camaraderie that she had in the military when she would watch Jason come home in his uniform, and in 2006, after a 12-year break from the military, she decided it was her time to get back in.

“While I was in advanced individual training, my mom called me and told me she joined the Guard,” Hutchins said. “She talked about joining, but I didn’t think she really would.”

In addition to being military police in the same company, mother and son were in the same platoon before the deployment started. And they’re not the only military members of their close-knit family. Devlin, the younger brother, joined the Army National Guard last year and completed basic training the summer before his senior year. He will continue on to AIT for military intelligence as soon as he graduates from high school this month.

“It’s really cool having my mom in my unit; it made us even closer than we were before,” Hutchins said. “The part that is hard is leaving my brother behind.”

The hard part, Eaton said, is that she won’t be home to be Mom. She said she has always been a mother first, but being a mother has to come second, since the Army is now first, she acknowledged.

As she expressed her pride in being a mother, she paused, turned her head to the side and looked away. Taking deep breaths was all she could do to keep the tears from falling. The moment hit her as she thought of not being there for the special moments in her younger son’s life.

“He graduates high school this year, and there’s prom,” she said softly. “I want to be there for the big things and the little things. Devlin says he understands. He said that I was there for his basic training graduation, and that meant more to him than anything.”

Eaton smiled as she regained her composure. With a big grin, she said, “My boys and me are a tight trio.”

Knowing both of her sons are safe, and not sitting on the couch wondering about them, is the best thing she could ask for, she said.

However, no more open fighting has occurred since 1999, and in that KFOR is a success.

Absolutely incorrect.

The violence continued on March 18 with further demonstrations in many localities across Kosovo, notably at Čaglavica again and also in Kosovska Mitrovica, Lipljan, Obilic and Pristina. The casualty toll at the end of the day was 28 and 600 people were injured, including 61 peacekeepers and 55 police officers. U.N. spokeswoman Isabella Karlowitz said 110 houses and 16 churches were destroyed. She also reported that around 3,600 people had been made homeless by the violence, mostly Serbs but also Roma and Ashkali.
Some lies do not become true regardless of how often they are repeated.

You are reading a bunch of lying propaganda by HRW which is funded by NATO countries.

Many of what it reports are merely accusations - some by KLA soldiers themselves.

The rapes are entirely unsubstantiated with DNA evidence. The Macedonian medical personnel reported that the refugees were arriving UNINJURED.

It is known that the KLA ordered the people to leave when NATO started bombing - this was testified to by a German reporter who was embedded with the KLA throughout 1998 and 1999. He witnessed how they controlled the Albanian refugees and were creating internal refugee problems and camps BEFORE the NATO bombing. They also told the Albanians what roads to use when they left.

Even a KLA commander at the trial admitted they gave orders for the people to leave.

The refugees HAD on jewelry when they arrived in Macedonia, they had money and some were reported to have guns according to the Macedonians.

As for the number of Albanian men killed it was 50-100 times LOWER than the propaganda during the war which had 100,000 to 500,000 men "missing" and believed to be killed.

The majority of the men killed were KLA fighters and there are memorials to these men all over Kosovo. They even have a memorial wall pattered after the U.S. Vietnam memorial wall of black marble and with names on them.

The Albanian population grew under Serb rule. From Milosevic's reign in the late 1980's until NATO bombing ALL those Albanians lived and raised their families in Kosovo.

None of them showed malnutrition and many of the younger people wore leather jackets (especially men), jewelry, make up, etc. and this shows on the pictures/video if you scrutinize.

You are reading a bunch of propaganda hype/lies and believing everything.

THE ALBANIAN KLA INITIATE THE VIOLENCE. THEY PURPOSELY ATTACKED AND KILLED POLICE TO BRING A CRACKDOWN TO BUY AN EXCUSE FOR FOREIGN INTERVENTION.

They also kidnapped and killed Serb civilians - this was down with increasing frequency in the year's run up to the NATO bombing.

As fro NATO they were positioning themselves in Macedonia over a year before the bombing.

The fact of the Serbs doing ethnic cleansing right when NATO had positioned itself and was flying over Serbia doesn't make sense as it would bring heavier bombing. Instead it suited the NATO PR excuse/agenda to bomb day after day.

Then you have to look at the Albanian population/census in Kosovo to realize it is essentially the same as it was pre-war which depicts no genocide.

People simply left during the bombing and came back after it was over.

The lack of open fighting is due to the Serbs being obliterated in most areas of Kosovo - the remaining Serbs live compacted and Albanians/NATO aren't ready to risk an open/heavy war yet.

There have been kidnapping, murder, looting and theft from minorities. There is heavy pressure which forces minorities out - this includes the Goranis (Slavic Muslims in Kosovo's south) and Croats (hundreds of Kosovo Croats left for Croatia). There are still reports of Albanians pressuring these people who are left and trying to gain control of the land and businesses they use to survive.

There was also the war in Macedonia in 2001 which was supported by Kosovo fighters who were involved. Additionally there was fighting in southern Serbia in 2000-2001 which was supported by Kosovo. The potential is there for more war and they are now on hold to make Kosovo look more peaceful. But it ain't over.

The Kosovo Albanians are highly involved in illegal activities and network over Europe. Many of the largest drug/thieving gangs in Spain, Britain, and Italy are Kosovo Albanians (sometimes mixed with other Albanians.)

The war was started by the Kosovo Albanians with western help and training (CIA, Germany's BND) and ended when they got what they wanted all along - the Serbian government and forces out of Kosovo so they could have it for themselves.

THEY are the ones that start the wars and then shut them down.

Giving the ethnic Albanian criminals Kosovo is rewarding terrorism and theft.

"not even Serbs authorities claim that they are more than 25% Serbs" was the appox quote by either Malcolm Noel or Vickers. Not sure, but I can find if one challenges me on that. The point is that was not "Serbia." It was in the 14th century, when part of France was "England" as well.

It turns out Serbs wanted half of Albania as well, for "historical reasons," given that they had ruled it in the 13th century. They actually wanted two ports. The problem with "Kosovo is Serbia" is that people have bitter memories and don't want to be "Serbia"

There's a lot written by Leo Freundlich, Leon Tolstoy (who was a reporter,) Edith Durham and Carnegie Institute on Serbia's 1913 (?)campaign. Serbs started to literally wipe them out, especially on the borders, apparently the border would move based on population, so kill Albanians and it is no longer "Albania."

The thousand and thousands of men, women, children and old people who have been slain or tortured to death, the villages marauded and burnt to the ground, the women and young girls who have been raped, and the countryside plundered, ravaged and swimming in blood can give no answer to this question.

The Serbs came to Albania not as liberators but as exterminators of the Albanian people. The Ambassadors' Conference in London proposed drawing the borders of Albania according to ethnic and religious statistics to be gathered on site by a commission. The Serbs have hastened to prepare the statistics for them with machine guns, rifles and bayonets. They have committed unspeakable atrocities.
The shock and outrage produced by these crimes are outdone only by the sense of sorrow that such vile deeds could be committed in Europe, not far from the great centres of western culture, in this twentieth century. Our sorrow is made all the heavier by the fact that, despite the reports which have been cabled home for months now by the journalists of many nations, and despite the impassioned indictment launched to the world by Pierre Loti, nothing has been done to put an end to the killings.

A courageous people full of character is being crucified before the eyes of the world and Europe, civilized Christian Europe, remains silent!
Tens of thousands of defenceless people are being massacred, women are being raped, old people and children strangled, hundreds of villages burnt to the ground, priests slaughtered.

And Europe remains silent! Serbia and Montenegro have set out to conquer a foreign country. But in that land live a freedom-loving, brave people who despite centuries of servitude have not yet become accustomed to bearing a foreign yoke. The solution is obvious. The Albanians must be exterminated!
Leo Freundlich: Albania's Golgotha: Indictment of the Exterminators of the Albanian People http://www.albanianhistory.net/texts/AH1913_1.html And while this may ancient in the West, when and do it again in 1999, you talk about "throwing them out" in 2008, people do react. One of their church leaders recently called Russia to invade or give Serbia guns and volunteers. The problem is that people there apparently don not want to become Serbs.

"Kosovo is working out very well....The only ones unhappy about Kosovo are the Serbs."

Gee, I wonder why they are "unhappy"? Could it be because we invaded their country, built a military base, became an occupier and then gave a piece of their country away to Albania?

Is this your definition of "working out well"?

Bottom of the page shows Before and After photos of 18 of the 150 Serbian Orthodox Christian churches we allowed the destruction of, many of which were over 500 years old.

Don't know about you but this makes me ashamed, not proud. We are "the USA", not Nazi Germany and not the Taliban, but you wouldn't know it from the results we've supported in Kosovo.

What you quote is a bunch of hysterical propaganda. The Albanians were a violent mountain people often used by the Turks and Austrians to kill of Serbs.

Though the Turkish had to actually order the Albanians to stop their killings for in killing off Serbs and Christians in Macedonia, the tax base was being eroded.

The Turks took a heavy amount of the agricultural production of the Christians they overlorded.

There are historical photos of Turkish soldiers having to escort Serb religious peoples in Kosovo due to Albanian attacks.

It was entirely unsafe to travel in Kosovo before Yugoslavia was created as the Albanians would rob and kill travelers.

One of their methods was to create an obstruction in the road, including rolling bolders down the hillsides, so the travelers had to stop and the Albanians would come down from the hillsides/mountains to rob and kill them.

"Their plans must have been to deny re-entry to anyone who not have documents when the war was done. Kinda convenient, right? You need documents to enter, but we just burned them."

Actually it was a convenient excuse for illegals to claim their documents were destroyed in order to get a blank check to enter Kosovo or go off to another country as a "Kosovo refugee".

There were reports of up to 400,000 Albanians from Albania and Macedonia flooded Kosovo after NATO's war. The border was left wide open for many months.

Britain says 90% of the alleged Kosovo refugees they've deported, they sent to Albania after discover that is where they were from.

British parents have even foster alleged Kosovo orphans only to find out they were from Albania and not orphans, and usually a different age than they claimed to be.

There was one case of a family who brought 2 Albanian brothers into their household - they brothers claimed their mother had been killed by Serb and her body dumped in a well.

Only about a year later did the family learn the truth - that the brothers were from Albania, not orphans and a few years older than they claimed. This was after a year of having things pilfered and money stolen from them, after one of them tried to seduce their 13-year-old daughter, after noticing the poor Kosovo refugee orphans liked to watch porn all day, etc.

Here is one of the reports from Britain I told you about. It shows that Albanians are easy liars and scammers and claiming they were from Kosovo was an easy ticket into other countries/territories (and this would include Kosovo). So the destroyed document claim was most convenient for these types.

Crackdown on Albanians who lied about fleeing Kosovo war

Hundreds of successful asylum seekers could have their British citizenship revoked after investigators uncovered a massive immigration fraud.

The Home Office is targeting Albanians who claimed to be victims of the war in Kosovo.

According to the Daily Mail's sister paper, the Evening Standard, more than 80,000 refugees settled in Britain when Nato expelled Serbian forces from the province amid accusations of "ethnic cleansing" in 1999.

Now the Home Office has evidence that many were not refugees fleeing the war but economic migrants from neighbouring Albania who adopted fake Kosovar identities to claim asylum.

The clampdown, launched last month, is being aimed at those whose identities have been checked and proved false - genuine refugees from the Kosovo conflict are not affected.

The precise number of those involved is not known, but dozens of letters are thought to have been sent out so far, with more to come as information is gathered.

London's 25,000-strong Albanian community has been thrown into panic by the move, with internet forums flooded with posts from people anxious about their future in Britain.

A genuine asylum seeker, who was given permission to remain, said: "It's been an open secret for years that thousands of Albanians were getting refugee status here by saying they were from Kosovo. It used to be the fasttrack route into Britain and lots of people took it.

"There was a network that included traffickers and intermediaries. People were told to say they were from Kosovo - it never failed."

Many of those facing expulsion have jobs, mortgages and British passports, with children who speak English and are at school here.

The Home Office letters warn that those suspected of getting a passport by deception could face three months in jail or a £5,000 fine.

This week, another letter was sent out by the Border and Immigration Agency, ordering those suspected of trickery to hand in their passports.

The letter adds that the passport and certificate of naturalisation will be retained "until this matter is resolved".

Another letter said their application for citizenship would be re-assessed, causing confusion because those affected are not sure if they are going to be deported.

The clampdown began when British embassy officials in the Albanian capital, Tirana, examined applications from so-called Kosovars who had been given leave to remain in Britain and wanted to bring their families over as well.

Embassy staff noted that the families all seemed to be from Albania, not Kosovo, and further checks revealed that a massive fraud had been operating for years.

A Home Office spokesman said: "We believe British citizenship should be a gold standard. Whenever we receive evidence of fraud we will investigate.

"Where we can prove fraud we will strip individuals of their citizenship and remove them from the country."

“Have Kosovo become part of EU”

Lol!! Seriously, do you really believe EU nations want Kosovo to be a part of EU? You really need to wake up and smell the coffee...the only reason several EU countries have recognised Kosovo’s dependent independence is because finally they can stop taking in all the “refugees” from there. Get it? You give them their own “home” and that way you don’t need to let them into your home. You obviously do not live in Europe and definitely don’t understand the European way of thinking!

>. There were reports of up to 400,000 Albanians from Albania and Macedonia flooded Kosovo after NATO’s war. The border was left wide open for many months.

I realize that you probably think Srebrenica didn’t happen, Bosnian “rapes” were fake, that Croatia bombed Dubrovnik and that Serbs didn’t loot, kill and /or rape civilians during the 4 wars they started, but still:

where are those reports??

>. Britain says 90% of the alleged Kosovo refugees they’ve deported, they sent to Albania after discover that is where they were from.

Booohoo. People lie to get papers as if Serbs, Romanian or Chinese don’t do the same.

I will answer the “invented” rape (and looting) cases when I get back: but start searching for Arkan’s goons going to prisons and releasing the scum of the scum to unleash them on civilians. Also start to search on why:

“During the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, Serbian men described themselves as compelled to rape and murder Kosovar women and children. This felt necessity was provoked and sustained by collective memories nurtured in Serbs for seven centuries. The basic question I hope to answer is whether group members caught in the throes of collective memories should be held responsible for their actions when they “can do no other.”” http://volokh.com/files/serbposter.jpg

From NYT (part of the conspiracy, I take?):

snip—
As Djakovica suffered, other Serbs were at work nearby purging a wide area they regarded as a rebel highway.

In a rare account by a Serb, a captured soldier described to NATO interrogators how his infantry battalion was sent without explanation to Pec.

On March 27, the soldier said, his commander gathered about 100 men outside an elementary school and outlined their mission: expelling Albanians from their homes. The time had come, he said, to drive the Albanians out of Serbia, according to an American official familiar with the account.

The troops were to move through the city house by house, he said, ordering residents to dress in a few minutes, pack one small bag and leave in the direction of Decani, a city to the south. The soldiers looted jewelry, torched homes. At day’s end, many were driving new cars.

An artillery and armoured unit deployed to the nearby village of Ljubenic used rougher tactics. The soldier said a friend in the unit had told him they had killed 80 men while expelling the women, children and elderly.

In another of the region’s villages, Bela Crkva (Bellacrkva in Albanian), on March 25, soldiers and special policemen torched the homes and farm buildings and killed at least 62 people, most of them gunned down with automatic weapons in a stream bend.

‘’They just started shooting,’’ Mr. Zheniqi, a survivor, said in an interview. ‘’The dead bodies behind me pushed me over a cliff and into the stream. I was lucky because all the dead bodies fell on top of me.’’

It was one of a series of mass killings over the next few days along a seven-mile stretch of villages in the rolling hills, including Celina, Pirane, Krush-e-Vogel (called Mala Krusa in Serbian) and Krush-e-Mahde (Velika Krusa), where Bekim Duraku remembered, life was so ‘’beautiful, if someone offered to take me to the United States, I wouldn’t have gone.’’

On March 26, the third day of the NATO bombing, the idyllic life ended in one of the best-documented of the mass killings, including an amateur videotape of the bodies. Serbian forces stormed through the village shooting down people in several areas, burning some bodies, digging a mass grave with a backhoe for others and leaving some lying in piles on the ground.

more and now I have to leave:

"To amplify the effect of the killings in Kosovo, Serbs gunned down Albanians in the streets and in their homes, sometimes at random, sometimes from target lists. Bodies have been mutilated, with ears cut off, eyes gouged out or a cross, a Serbian symbol, carved into foreheads or chests.

In many places the Serbs compounded the fear with humiliation. Older men were beaten for wearing the white conical hats of the Albanian mountains or forced to make the Serbian Orthodox three-fingered sign. One refugee convoy passed row on row of white conical hats set atop fence posts.

Two months into the campaign now, the terror has been devastatingly effective and virtually unhampered by NATO's bombing campaign, judging by accounts from refugees, relief workers and officials from international agencies, NATO and the United States Government.

By early May, 90 percent of all ethnic Albanians in Kosovo had been expelled from their homes, the State Department says, 900,000 driven across the province's borders and 500,000 more displaced inside Kosovo. Most of those remaining have been chased into hiding in forests and mountains, huddled together in villages penned in by snipers waiting to be allowed to flee, or captured, their fate unknown. "

The title of this story is: HORROR BY DESIGN -- The Ravaging of Kosovo, A special report.; How Serb Forces Purged One Million Albanians http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0CE5DF1430F93AA15756C0A96F958260&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=1

>. It was entirely unsafe to travel in Kosovo before Yugoslavia was created as the Albanians would rob and kill travelers.

Nonsense. people rob and steal in any culture and Serbs seem to be just as good, if not better.

>> The Albanians were a violent mountain people often used by the Turks and Austrians to kill of Serbs.

How many times did Serbs fight against Christians who fought Turkey? Until Russia reached out, Serbs were just collecting the tax for the Sultan and happy as long as Turks let them take over parts of Bosnia. Looks like those "mountain people" didn't accept submission, you did.

"This fragment comes from the tale of Serbian Prince Marko and the Albanian highwayman Musa Kesedzija. Marko, a vassal of the Sultan, has been sent by him to kill Musa who has been preying on people at the gorge of Kacanik, close to Kosovo's modern border with Macedonia. On seeing Marko, Musa greets him.

Pass, Marko, don't pick a quarrel,
Or dismount and we'll drink some wine;
But yield to you — that I will not,
Though a queen did give you birth
In a pavilion on soft cushions,
And swaddled you in purest silk,
Bound you with golden cords
And fed you on honey and sugar.
Though a stern Albanian woman gave me birth
Among the sheep, on a cold flagstone,
And swaddled me in a black cape,
Bound me with bramble stems
And fed me on oatmeal porridge,
Yet she besought me often
Never to make way for any man!
source
This is your hero, a vassal. Serbs were the nicest vassals Turks ever had. Loyal, quiet and efficient. There was no shame in it either.

A culture of humiliation - partition of Yugoslavia by Christopher Cviic (a Serb, written in 1993) source (he predicts in 1993 that "Greater Serbia" will fail
Life under the Ottoman Empire, involving as it did for the majority population what would nowadays be called collaboration with the enemy. For example, the main hero of Serbian folk poetry, Prince Marko (Kraljevic Marko), endowed in popular imagination with superhuman strength and extraordinary bravery as well as great cunning, was a historical figure--in fact a small feudal ruler who, like all the other Serbian Christian nobles, became the Turkish sultan's vassal after the Kosovo battle.

In one of the Serbian folk ballads called "Kraljevic Marko i Musa Kesedzija," Marko is commissioned by the Turks to kill Musa, represented in the poem as a bandit but in fact an Albanian insurgent against Turkish rule. The necessity to collaborate with the enemy induced in the Serbs a strong sense of inferiority and a correspondingly powerful urge for a violent compensation, both of which are reflected in Serbian folk poetry (later discovered and much praised by the Grimm brothers and other German scholars of the Romantic era). Much of that poetry is so violent and sadistic that in schools, as I myself remember, it was taught in a severely bowdlerized form.
(for the record, after distracting and then killing Musa, Marko cries because he knows that Musa is a better man)

The Albanians, turns out, rose against Turks much more than Serbs and no one suggests that Turks or anyone really conqured them (Not even Serbs as it turns out) All Albanians, Christian and Muslim alike, had guns and were left alone because of constant uprisings when Turks cracked down (if Durham is right).

In 1911-13 Albanians rose one last time and Turkey was bankrupted; they had spent 6,000,000 pounds to crush them and couldn't. It turns out two Albanian battalions were in the Sultan's Imperial Guard and told him to go F himself. Serbia thanks the weakened Albania by trying to exterminate them. No wonder Edith Durham said that "No Turk has treated the Armenians like Serbs and Montenegrins have treated the Albanians"

As far as being Violent, Serbs have clearly made their mark; 4 wars in the 1990's, WWI, and two Balkans wars. All to create the Empire they are "entitled to." Now they have their hands stretched to us for bread money because they are starving. STOP invading other countries when you can't feed yourself.

“During the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, Serbian men described themselves as compelled to rape and murder Kosovar women and children....http://volokh.com/files/serbposter.jpg

I happen to know that this Peter French lecture at Kent State never took place. Even with the usual hysterical anti-Serbianism on college campuses, this poster and lecture was considered so racist and vile that it was removed from campus and Peter French never gave that lecture at Kent State.

Dream up a the weirdest, kinkiest most sadistic nightmare scenario, and Albanians will lie and tell you that "Serbs did this to them". The amazing thing is that people bought this manure propaganda.

So, got any more racist bull-puckey to pull out of butt to bore us with, mold-mold?

funny. I found him by searching your name. You never mentioned that you know him on previous posts. It looks like Serbs from average people to the embassy threatened him so you may not be all that truthful.
This escalated into an outrageously false (and I believe libelous) article posted on a website (www.serbianna.com) in which my views are grossly mischaracterized. This website wrongly attributes to me the claim that "Serbian people are rapist and killers because they are delusional about their history during the time they lived under the Islamic Law in Kosovo." I make no such claim. Nor do I make any of the other wild claims now attributed to me in emails and elsewhere. I do not think the Serbian people are or were delusional and I was not going to say so in the lecture. Nor do I think the Serbian people are rapists and killers (although individual Serbs have raped and murdered, as have members of every ethnic group on Earth). http://www.volokh.com/posts/chain_1172881618.shtml

It isn't racist of this is what the felt, and when you deny it, people are bound to remind you:

"As they tried to ethnically cleanse Kosovo, paramilitaries - often aided by masked Serb neighbours - systematically searched villages for girls of prime, child-bearing age.

It was about power and control, humiliation and revenge. And what better way to damage the enemy's morale than to hit at his family? 'Our society is a traditional one where Albanian men are brought up to see themselves as breadwinners and protectors,' Ahmeti points out.

'Once you touch the woman, you touch the honour of the family and you provoke the man to react. The Serbs knew this. Belgrade had, for years, put out propaganda that the only thing Albanian women could do was produce like mice. So daughters were gang-raped in front of their fathers, wives in front of their husbands, nieces in front of their uncles, mothers in front of their children, just to dehumanise, just to degrade.' http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2000/apr/16/balkans

Now please leave me alone. Admit it, stop posting lies and stop starting news wars. It's costing us a fortune in helping Serbia live and by paying for peace keepers.
