Prayers for Jim Robinson
May 14, 2008

Prayer Request Jim Robinson is having surgery tomorrow, May 15th See the posts below for information about this procedure. Jim Update:
It has been a frustrating day, I finally have a update for everyone.
I called Jim at the hospital. The nurse was in his room and gave him the phone. Sheila took his cell phone to him so I will be able to contact him easier. Also they took his laptop.
Due to major pain killers, he was able to sleep in the bed last night and was in bed when I called.
He sounded better than he has for the past few months. He will be there for at least one more night; maybe more depending on decisions being made tonight.
They may remove Jim's left leg at the knee tomorrow. The docs have told him that the poison in that leg is going to continue causing problems.
Jim is really reluctant to let them remove the leg but I told him that if it will relieve the pain and stop all the damage it is doing to his internal organs, he should let them take it. Jim cannot use his legs now. He only has limited use of his right leg and no muscle remains in his left leg. The muscular dystrophy has done a number on his muscles while he has been ill.
I hope this makes sense.
When I hear what the decision is, I will let you know. In the meantime, Jim needs our prayers tonight and tomorrow.
Father, hear our prayers. 930 posted on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 8:55:24 PM by JustAmy*********************************
Thanks for all the updates, Amy I just talked to Chris and he said that Notpoliticallycorewrecked is visiting with Jim at this time. He also said that the Doctors have decided that tomorrow Jim has to make the decision about his leg The Doctors believe, as you stated, that it has to be removed to keep the infection from spreading. So I imagine that is the decision he will make. Don't worry about him getting online, he has an air card so he can get online anywhere. He misses being able to read and post here tremendously naturally. This is his baby. Good news that the swelling has gone down dramatically in his left leg and that for the first time in months he is not in pain 24 hrs a day and was able to sleep more than usual. Chris had no idea how long he would be hospitalized, but I would imagine it will be several more days, especially if the operation on his leg is done soon. Good advice you gave Jim, Amy. Yes, Mama Bear don't hesitate to visit, it will be highly appreciated and encouraging to see such good friends as you and that jk I'm sure Jim is blessed indeed to have family that are watching over him closely and taking care of his needs, getting him to the hospital and other numerous tasks And the legion here that are pulling for him.

**************************************** Today's short update:
I just talked to Jim; the surgery will be performed tomorrow. He doesn't know what time yet. He said he is feeling pretty good. Also, he slept off and on last night. May have been due to the stress.
I am going to try to see him this afternoon. He has some tests scheduled but he doesn't think they will take very long.
He is not allowed to have his laptop in the patient area so he cannot get online until he can get down to the lobby.
His words ..... "Please tell everyone how much I appreciate their thoughts and prayers. Oh Yeah ..... tell them I'll be back online as soon as I'm able.
Anyway, thank you for your prayers.

Hi Jaycee.
She is in post 2092. Since Syncro took pictures earlier, I only took two pictures of her and Jim. Jim tried to put his arm around her but he had so many tubes it didn’t work, so she put her arm around him.

Thanks so much Amy for the updates, and photos! Thanks to EVERYONE who posted the photos and updates! LOL It’s wonderful to see him smiling!
Praise the Lord that he is feeling better - it’s too bad about the tummy ache though. Probably a mixture of things, including wanting to go home! I really feel for him, that’s for sure.
Prayers continue for you, Jim. As well as prayers for all family, friends, and caregivers! God bless all of you!

No, actually Jim's sister is the nice lady in the last few pictures. The fist few pictures are of yours truly.
Yesterday I was asked if I was Jim's wife by the CNA, and now his sister. These rumors about Jim and I .... LOL
To: notpoliticallycorewrecked
Oh well, you do resemble each other. Plus, that look he was giving you made me think he was giving you grief.
p.s. I have heard no rumors about you and Jim, however, if you wish to share

phantom feeling in his former leg. I was fascinated by:The Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force by Jeffrey M. Schwartz and Sharon Begley
It's a big tome, and not everyone would be interested in everything in it - but it is germane in part to phantom pain - which has to be a weird phenomenon to contend with. Basically it models the brain as a self-adapting mechanism. If you study something intensively - he uses the example of aspiring taxi drivers studying to pass the exam for a license to carry passengers in London (which requires that you know the geography of London cold) - that can produce observable physical changes in your brain.
According to the book, what happens when something gets amputated is that the portion of the brain which is used to processing signals from that member no longer gets stimulated by the nerves from than member. Obviously. But what happens next is that the brain cells which don't get stimulated normally start reconnecting themselves - and in the process, begin to pay attention to activity in its neighborhood of the brain. And that means that stimulation of members connected to anywhere in that neighborhood of the brain can produce what the portion of the brain previously dedicated to signals from the missing member interprets as sensation of some sort in the the no-longer-extant member.
Which sounds just about as creepy as Jim must think "feeling" his missing toe is. But if it makes any sense in Jim's experience, it might ameliorate the frustration just a bit.

Again, my apologies to any of you who have been called to this thread earlier from a different ping list. Just wanted to make sure everyone was in the loop and praying for Jim! Update at #2,092.
