Prayer Request

Jim Robinson is having surgery tomorrow, May 15th

Jim Update:

It has been a frustrating day, I finally have a update for everyone.

I called Jim at the hospital. The nurse was in his room and gave him the phone. Sheila took his cell phone to him so I will be able to contact him easier. Also they took his laptop.

Due to major pain killers, he was able to sleep in the bed last night and was in bed when I called.

He sounded better than he has for the past few months.
He will be there for at least one more night; maybe more depending on decisions being made tonight.

They may remove Jim's left leg at the knee tomorrow. The docs have told him that the poison in that leg is going to continue causing problems.

Jim is really reluctant to let them remove the leg but I told him that if it will relieve the pain and stop all the damage it is doing to his internal organs, he should let them take it. Jim cannot use his legs now. He only has limited use of his right leg and no muscle remains in his left leg. The muscular dystrophy has done a number on his muscles while he has been ill.

I hope this makes sense.

When I hear what the decision is, I will let you know. In the meantime, Jim needs our prayers tonight and tomorrow.

I just talked to Chris and he said that Notpoliticallycorewrecked is visiting with Jim at this time.

He also said that the Doctors have decided that tomorrow Jim has to make the decision about his leg

The Doctors believe, as you stated, that it has to be removed to keep the infection from spreading.

So I imagine that is the decision he will make.

Don't worry about him getting online, he has an “air” card so he can get online anywhere.

He misses being able to read and post here tremendously naturally. This is his baby.

Good news that the swelling has gone down dramatically in his left leg and that for the first time in months he is not in pain 24 hrs a day and was able to sleep more than usual.

Chris had no idea how long he would be hospitalized, but I would imagine it will be several more days, especially if the operation on his leg is done soon.

Good advice you gave Jim, Amy.

Yes, Mama Bear don't hesitate to visit, it will be highly appreciated and encouraging to see such good friends as you and that jk I'm sure

Jim is blessed indeed to have family that are watching over him closely and taking care of his needs, getting him to the hospital and other numerous tasks

And the legion here that are pulling for him.

Today's short update:

I just talked to Jim; the surgery will be performed tomorrow. He doesn't know what time yet. He said he is feeling pretty good. Also, he slept off and on last night. May have been due to the stress.

I am going to try to see him this afternoon. He has some tests scheduled but he doesn't think they will take very long.

He is not allowed to have his laptop in the patient area so he cannot get online until he can get down to the lobby.

His words ..... "Please tell everyone how much I appreciate their thoughts and prayers. Oh Yeah ..... tell them I'll be back online as soon as I'm able.

Anyway, thank you for your prayers.

Thank you so much for your wonderful photo’s! They all were very good. I think Jim really looks good considering what an ordeal he has been through! Hope he and his family enjoyed eating the fruit together!

We figured there would be some rough patches after the drugs wear off. The tummy problem could be from the Morphine. Bad stuff with lingering effects. Yogurt, if he can keep it down. Prayers continue for better days ahead.

I've got a few miles on the odometer (I look back to my 50th H.S. class reunion), and I don't tolerate lactose as well as I did. So when I was traveling in Turkey and didn't know the cuisine nor the lingo, my SIL suggested I try a Turkish yogurt called "ayeron." So I ordered it, took one sip, and said, "Oh! Buttermilk!"

As it happens, I helped my grandmother churn butter when I was a kid, and so was introduced to buttermilk positively and always enjoyed it on the occasions when it just happened to be in the refrigerator (my wife, OTOH, grew up on a farm where buttermilk was fed to the pigs, and can't imagine liking the stuff). So I have been drinking buttermilk for about a year, and I have taken to using it when taking pills that are prescribed to be taken on a full stomach. I find that pills that otherwise have a tendency to 'repeat' on me (even when taken just after a meal) cause no trouble if taken with a little buttermilk. So if you have/can acquire a taste for buttermilk . . .

It makes perfect sense to call buttermilk "yogurt," since in fact it is easy to culture the stuff (at least in warm weather). Simply start with (say) a quart of milk, add about a cup of cultured buttermilk to it as a seed, and set it out in the kitchen for around 8 hours. The time isn't at all critical - all that happens if you go long is that it very gradually starts turning to cheese. I tried lower butterfat percentages than the 1.5% stuff that they sell in the store, but I find the 1.5% stuff to be far more palatable than anything less rich. 'Course salt tastes great with it, if your diet allows . . .

Conventional "yogurt," OTOH, needs the temperature to be about 115F +/-5. So that requires a heat source to keep the culture growing (I've used a light bulb) and some attention to keep from killing off the bacteria you're trying to grow.

Morning prayers from the cold East. Here’s hoping that you get your wish to go home real soon, Jim. Don’t push it though. You are looking good in the pictures. Loved the ones of you and Missy. She’s really growing (too fast). I’m waiting for you to get a bionic leg so you can walk again. I’m holding out for “better” legs than you have had for some time. Why not dream big? Love you, Jim. FWIW, my father was a house painter. In his mid to late fifties his diabetes caught up with him and he lost both his legs. He adjusted to prostheses sufficient to navigate ladders.

He lived another twenty years and died at 79 of causes unrelated to either diabetes or its sequelae.
