the only big problem I see is the price of gas

That could be the problem with your perception of the problem.

You apparently don't do your own shopping.

Not only are gas prices 50%-60% higher than they were just a year ago, but grocery and other commodity (goods) prices are now rising at substantial rates. On many products, increases of 20%-30% in the last 6 months are not uncommon.

As the cost of fuel rises, correspondingly, the prices of groceries and other goods rise. As those increase, they will cause the costs of services, including utilities (gas, heating oil, electricity) to rise.

Wages are not keeping pace. And those on fixed incomes are facing significant re-evaluating of their financial conditions. Many who depend on interest-bearing supplemental income are seeing those vehicles with very low interest-bearing returns.

If the GOP/NRC think the economy is NOT a problem, they will find their answer in November, as they lose more House and Senate seats, state offices, and possibly the White House.

It IS the economy. And voters vote based on their pocketbooks. If they perceive their personal finances in difficulty, they will vote for change. If they perceive their personal finances stable, they will vote for the status quo.

With gas 60% higher, groceries and goods 20-30% higher, utilities rising, etc., and their incomes not rising comparably, what do you think their perception will be?

Yet the government won’t dare call it inflation because then they’ll have to make cost of living increases for all the entitlements.

Yes, I know the gas price is causing other prices to increase. It’s disgusting and no one is turning on the enviro-whackos for this. China is drilling off Cuba. Are we stupid or what?

But our government a couple of hours ago said inflation is running 0.1 - 0.2%.

And our government also tells the truth, right?

Gas prices started upward in 2004, and it was a miracle we held the White House and Congress. Blaming the current state of the economy on the Dems in Congress won't cut it. It will have no traction. It could be right, but voters won't buy it.

I got laid off a couple of months ago, at age 49. I can either go flip burgers for peanuts or go back to school and get a master's degree, which is what I'm doing. My wife has a terrific job as a nursing supervisor and she teaches for several colleges. I'm in a unique position. Many people aren't.

I was commuting 74 miles a day to my last job, and in heavy traffic. I got laid off just as gas prices exploded again.

I'm an optimist, believe it or not, but that isn't because of the Republican party. They have blown it big time, and we will be massacred in November. There's a chance McCain can beat Obama, but Hillary would pound him into sand. This electoral cycle is a complete disaster. It's 1932 again.
