This was very emotional event. The marker marking the spot where Jamiel Shaw was shot down is just three doors down from their family home.
Attending was Terry Anderson, Jesse Lee Peterson of BOND, Sheriff Lee Baca and City Councilman Zine.
Sheriff Lee Baca spoke briefly of the need for "intervention programs" to prevent young people such as Pedro Escobar from joining gangs. This was generally met with groans and eye rolls.
City Councilman Zine spoke of his initiative to amend Special Order 40. He feels it could be passed.
Steve Ipson, who is running for District Attorney, was there and brought leaders of Victim's Rights group who promised to support Jamiel's Law.
One Hispanic American spoke of his daughter and neice whose murderer fled to Mexico.
Also speaking was the mother of Marscy, who promised her groups support with Jamiel's Law.

Jamiels Shaw Sr spoke of his beloved son, moved to tears several times. He also demonstrated great strength and clarity. "Someone 24 hours out of jail should be happy to be free..but this guy had a gun...and saw this quiet neighborhood and thought he could kill a black kid and no one would see...my son was killed by an illegal alien gang member because he was black and there is no sugar coating it."
One bit of news it was OK'd to announce is that Anita Shaw has be reassigned to a position in Los Angeles that will allow her to remain at home.
The Shaw Family invites everyone to Leimert Park May 17, 2008 at noon for a rally.

If that fact were trumpeted from coast-to-coast, the outcry would be so great there is no way the Democrats would continue supporting open borders.
Thanks for this great post and the pics...
What a wonderful family...
May God bless them...
They have lost a great son..
I ask black Americans why Al and Jesse dont speak up about this...
They say “I dont know...”
It’s the first time they have thought about the silence of the black “leaders”
As we all know there's no money in hispanics killing blacks. If this were white people killing blacks there'd be outrage and Jesse and Al would be getting paid from it.
Where's Obama on this?!? I guess he doesn't care about a promising young black man, the son of a soldier, being murdered by an illegal that should never have been here. It would hurt the amount of votes he'd get if he stood on principle.
What we don't need is Sheriff Baca's approach of "Lets talk it to death" instead of sweeping the city, checking immigration status, and throwing some border jumper asses in jail.
Zine is too little, too late. He is a political tool anyways, and worthless. He is mini-Tony V (faux mayor) always looking for news and camera time.
