Two weeks after The Observer revealed the shocking story of Rand Abdel-Qader, 17, murdered because of her infatuation with a British solider in Basra, southern Iraq, her father is defiant. Sitting in the front garden of his well-kept home in the city's Al-Fursi district, he remains a free man, despite having stamped on, suffocated and then stabbed his student daughter to death.
Abdel-Qader, 46, a government employee, was initially arrested but released after two hours. Astonishingly, he said, police congratulated him on what he had done. 'They are men and know what honour is,' he said.
Rand, who was studying English at Basra University, was deemed to have brought shame on her family after becoming infatuated with a British soldier, 22, known only as Paul...
It was her first youthful infatuation and it would be her last. She died on 16 March after her father discovered she had been seen in public talking to Paul, considered to be the enemy, the invader and a Christian. Though her horrified mother, Leila Hussein, called Rand's two brothers, Hassan, 23, and Haydar, 21, to restrain Abdel-Qader as he choked her with his foot on her throat, they joined in. Her shrouded corpse was then tossed into a makeshift grave without ceremony as her uncles spat on it in disgust.

Amen. This world is fast becoming a scary place. Where the heck did Obama come from as a presidential candidate?
I do not want someone with even a whiff of muslim upbringing in any office if this is how the extremes of their religion condone barbarism.
Primitive savages.
I’ve heard it said that honor killing aren’t practiced much among Iranians, who supposedly look down on it as tribal barbarism, though it’s present in the Kurdish community. The Iranians hang people who commit honor killings. Never thought I’d agree with them about something. I think that the father and the brothers should have pork fat poured down their throats, before being slowly hung.
Were the actual Barbarians that bad?
Hopefully the British soldiers have some little black ops planned to deal with these wonderful Muslim make role models.
Sounds like the perfect fate for the Iranian President himself.
My style of honor killing is to go after the father and brothers.
Very interesting quote by Barack Hussein Obama, cynwoody. I hadn't heard that one before...
But don’t our leaders tell us that “Islam is a religion of peace”?
This woman had no idea the impact her portrait had made. She couldn't believe that she was an international celebrity of sorts. Not like she could do anything about it. NG was glad they found her, discovered her name, yadda yadda, but I couldn't help thinking, "Gee, what a bum deal for this kid. Isn't Islam great?"
Burn it all. Over and done with, and start over. Round up the imams and the mullahs and the psychos and the woman-hating bullies, and do us all a favor and exile them all to an island where they can do all their hating without bothering the rest of us. Blockade the island, and shoot anyone trying to get off. Drop food daily for them, wrapped in pictures of women in bikinis. Or pictures of pigs. Airlift Mecca onto a large barge which will sail in random directions, so the bastards don't know where to aim their fewer-braincells-than-a-dog heads. And then, maybe, we can rebuild the middle east.
"Anne Coulter was right."
Yes, she was.
"I remember this National Geographic issue a buncha years back that had this striking girl on the cover."
I remember that too.
Coming to a city near you!
I’m Barack Osama and I approve this message.
Now I get why we could not risk allowing such animals to get WMDs.
No Muslim Nation can ever be allowed to get hold of WMDs.
Actually Pakistan already has nuclear weapons.
We should nuke and nerve gas the entire region starting at Mecca and working our way out. Leave it so no stone stands upon another.
In 40 or 50 years we can move in there, claim the resources for Western Civilization, and build some decent golf courses.
