Oh, no. In the dark you can’t plan where to run and hide from these monsters very easily...

Remember, if/when cell towers go down, don’t CALL your loved ones - TEXT them. This eases the traffic on the towers still up.

We learned this in Katrina.

Stay safe! Give us a report when it’s all over, if you can.

Strangly enough, not many in the 4 state area have basements. It’s been explained as the “perk” rate in the area is slow. When we have basements, they tend to leak because of slow drainage. It’s always been a curiosity to me as well. They can be waterproofed but it’s difficult. My house has a “safe area” which is the laundry room situated in the middle of the home. No flying debris or glass.

Some friends of ours haved moved to Owasso, just north of Tulsa. They left California Thursday and are almost there. For me, these tornadoes are more personal now. Hope there are no more tonight. I’ll take an earthquake any day over a tornado.

So ban me.

LOL, that's what I was thinking. Looks like there's a new hall monitor on the block.

Only source is local tv news. I’m watching KOAM Channel 7 which has had continuous coverage.

As the weather approaches Alabama here are some great sites:

http://www.abc3340.com/weather/ if you click on the 24/7 live feed box and you will get live coverage as the storms approach us here in Alabama

http://www.alabamawx.com/ which is abc33/40s live weather blog

You all may have better luck with it than me once it hits. As powerful as this storm looks, we are battening down the hatches are preparing for at least a power outage.

I will be in and out of this thread as I try to get a few chores done before it hits.

Thanks! It makes me thankful that we have basements up here in the north. It’s scary enough having tornado warnings with a basement, I can’t imagine what it’s like being on ground level during a storm.

At least with a tornado, there is a storm as a forewarning. Earthquakes have no warning.

Must have been an F-4 or 5 that hit Newton County Mo.
Just left Mother’s place. Dozens of trees down, three on her roof. People down the street probably dead, house completely gone. Saw 4 body bags were a feed store used to be at Hwy. 43 and Iris road south of Joplin. Bad, Bad, storm.

I’m not aware of anything serious in the Chetopa city limits.

Picher, Ok. is another story. The town was in the process of being evacuated anyway through buyouts. The whole area is at risk for cave-ins from underground lead and zinc mining. As a side note, Mickey Mantle grew up only a few miles away.

This will probably accelerate the end of Picher.

The reporting on the website is not the same (up to date) as what they are reporting on the news but informative.

Well, sometimes the animals act weird prior to an earthquake, but it's nothing you can count on.
