Thanks! It makes me thankful that we have basements up here in the north. It’s scary enough having tornado warnings with a basement, I can’t imagine what it’s like being on ground level during a storm.

I have lived up north with solid basements. That is my prerequisite for a house here. We have finally moved up to a house with a bedroom in the basement, right next to an interior hall. If we are expecting bad overnight weather, we sleep down there and put the kids in the hallway on the cots. The hall is also adjacent to an interior bathroom. We all keep the radios and flashlights handy (one with a warning siren on it in case we are trapped), and to top things off, we keep our bicycle helmets in the bathroom. We have only ever used the helmets one time when the radar showed a very large hook echo was bearing down on us in a situation similar to tonight.

Can you tell we have alot of experience with these situations? Yes, just in the past two months, we have had the sirens go off about 5 times.

I am not going to complain though.....it comes with getting precipitation in the spring in these parts....and after last year’s drought, I am grateful for the rain.

I’ve got a good cellar, and three bathrooms with no windows in case we have to hide out. We rarely get those windstorms here where I live but 15 miles away where my son and his family live, they had a big storm that broke a window and blew in all kinds of stuff. Ruined some furniture. They spent a couple of hours in the cellar. It’s scary.
