here is the leatest info.
Picher, OK
Several people have been reported killed in Picher after at least five tornadoes reportedly touched down Saturday in eastern Oklahoma, officials said. The south end of the city has been completely destroyed.
Medical examiners are on their way to the area, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol dispatcher said. Troopers are helping local authorities with search and rescue operations in the area.
2) At least 3 dead in SW MO
3) Major damage reports coming in on the SE side of Stuttgart AR
I meant Jarrell, not Jasper..
You can’t immediately get data out of an F4/5 site because residents aren’t allowed back in until the ME has the area, well, examined.
Jarrell’s F5 scrubbed brick houses and their driveways away, leaving only rebar-d slabs.
Rest easy.
Nothing bad in the area. Just some showers.
Thanks. Appreciate your reply.
Thanks for the info. My grandson lives there and it’s a concern. Love, Mxxx
Obviously the troll doesn’t live in our part of the Country where tornadoes can just drop out of the sky with a storm. There were some big ones today from some of the video I saw on tonight’s news.
I cannot believe how AR has been hit this year — it is one storm after another that has ripped that state.
be safe.....I’m outta town starting tomorrow for a week
On local OKC news tonight they showed the size of the tornado that took out the southern half of the town. Really frightening site.
At 10:20 cdt on the news they only had six dead for Picher but now it is up to 14? Local weather guy on TV said the death total was expected to rise as half the town was gone.
Chance of tornado in OK has expired!
That’s a beast. Stay safe.
Awesome! Love living in Norman — been here almost 11 years now. Today was a beautiful day here in Norman although around 4:00 the winds picked up so now there is a wind warning out for the area. The temperature has been dropping most of the evening. OU’s graduation was last night and today so we have a lot of people in town so I am glad the storms stayed east of us.
I couldn’t believe it when I logged on and saw about the deadly tornado that hit Picher on the NE side of the state. I was just by that part of OK on the turnpike when I came back from Chicago.
The Moore tornado the other year was off the scale and Gary England, our Channel 9 weather guy, said it should have been an F-6 if there was that category. It even pulled up the grass. We had only been in OK a short time so had no idea about these huge tornadoes — it hit four miles north of us. You learn fast after seeing the results of that one.
An F6 if there could have been one..... that’s what we call unimaginable destruction.
Our F5 abraded the pavement off the streets - what does an F6 do, suck the oil up out of the underground wells?
the stories from my sister are unbelievable about that tornado.......it was the biggest thing I ever heard of
It tore everything right out of the ground, concrete slabs were gone. That would have been some gusher.
It supposedly was the highest wind velocity ever recorded and it stayed on the ground for miles and miles picking up steam. I drove by one place where there had been an apartment complex and there was nothing left except dirt.
You want to know how dumb I was at the time. My kids and I were watching the tornado travel up I-44 from Lawton when all of a sudden we realized it was right across the river and we had made no preparations when Gary England started shouting to get underground now to the people in the path. Very few basements here because of the ground and here my kids and I were just sitting there watching. It went north of us and turned in at the knee of the river where several other tornadoes have done the same thing. Not enough money to make me live along I-44 and then that part of Moore.
Your sister is right — it was huge and on the ground for so long.
There was one funny part though. When Clinton came to visit, they were flying him in a helicopter to tour the area and all of a sudden turned around because some guy had spray painted a sheet that wasn’t complimentary to Clinton and they didn’t want him to see it. I forget what it said, but it was funny.
I have a friend in Falcon, MO. Any problems there???
It’s getting worse. More big touchdowns.
About this TEXT stuff - many cell carrier towers may go down - as their cable/ISP/fone goes down, don’t call ‘em, text ‘em.
Georgia’s next. Damn. !
Well, I woke up this morning, so we survived.
Looks mighty nasty out there though.
