Two Hollywood actors who dined with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in early 2001 at actress Candice Bergen's home confirmed reports that he told the assembled group he did not vote for George W. Bush in the 2000 election, but McCain denied the claim at a news conference.
In separate phone interviews, Bradley Whitford and Richard Schiff -- both of whom starred in television's "The West Wing" -- said late Thursday night that the senator made the remarks after he spoke at length about his reservations about Bush becoming president. Liberal blogger Arianna Huffington first wrote about the incident Monday, asserting that neither McCain nor his wife Cindy backed Bush in his first presidential bid, and the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that an unidentified woman who was also at the dinner confirmed Huffington's account.
McCain's aides denied the allegations Tuesday, and yesterday McCain did so himself.
"I voted, campaigned for, worked as hard as I could for President Bush's election in 2000 and 2004," he told reporters in New Jersey. "It's nonsense."

That's just not true. McCain is a politician, he would have done what is best for his political career.
These allegations are nothing more than attempts of liberals to further divide the Republican party, to help the Democrats win. It was sad to see that some actually believed Arianna Huffington -- notorious left winger.
Look, I have no idea how McCain voted, but, given the career he's made sucking up to liberals, I find it totally believable that he might have, while at some elitist cocktail party, at least TOLD them that he didn't vote for Bush, whether he did or not.
This is sort of like the Swift Boat story, in the end, it's not that everybody, after a detailed looking at the facts, necessarily believed that the Swift Boat vets were right about every fact. But, the allegation fit totally and completely with what was already known about Kerry.
Here, the allegation fits totally with what we know about McCain. Of course, we will never know if it is true or not.
Well said.
Why in the heck would you work for a campaign you have no intent of supporting in the General Election? I cannot understand that, you will gladly take their money but not support them, sheesh. Glad I don’t have your morals.
I’m afraid there is NO leadership left in the GOP.
It’s dead Jim.
I can back up your claim since I was there also and saw what you saw. I also have 4 of my friends who were with me and they also confirm what you have said to be a fact.
Good move. Hillary and or Hussein certainly are better choices anyway and your non vote really is no different then a vote for either of them.
So is Candice Bergen. And John McCain was breaking bread with 'em.
I heard the reporter, both actors and the editor of the Washington Post are all members of NAMBLA and the Trilateral commission.
You, sir, are disgusting.
However, that doesn't mean that these two people like or admire each other. (Which they don't). Or that the loser might spend time sulking, threatening to leave the party, and whining about how he really should have the winner's job. (Which he did for probably a good five years). The funny thing is that McCain has probably had a more charmed life than Bush over the past seven years... It strikes me as lots more fun to get to host SNL, go on the Daily Show a gazillion times, and be fawned over by the press as the cool maverick Senator than to have to deal with all the crap that the Pres. has had to deal with.
Our only hope is to rebuild the Conservative image to the public again. It’s because of RINOs like McNasty, etc, and scandals like those who destroyed our chances in 2006, not to mention a Party that has lost it’s moral direction and picked those Rockefeller Liberals with an “R” behind their name that has burned a negative image of Conservatism in the eyes of the public. To them, we are just a bunch of war mongering, evil, environment killing, homophobic, corporate greed loving rednecks with low IQ’s.
“Conservative” to them is worse than a 4 letter word. Thanks to the image and the result of voting the party line without holding the candidate or incumbent to principles first, party second.
AMEN!
“As bad as he is, he is better than than the alternative.”
And that’s the bottom line! We cannot allow Barack Hussein to run and destroy the US.
Yes! We must let a "Republican" do that!
“To: Nick Thimmesch
You, sir, are disgusting.”
To: Cedric The Comedian
You, sir, are not funny.
Nice to know you actually admit to being a Hussein supporter -- you do realize that a McCain loss means an Obama WIN, right?
For whom McNut voted, we will never know the truth.
Ballots a secret.
He could have written in the name of that little runt from North Korea for all we know.
