'Prince Caspian': Interview with Doug Gresham
Catholic Online ^ | 5/10/08 | Deacon Keith Fournier

I still remember the day the “Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” was released; I was the first in line, with my adult son. It was a marvelous masterpiece of a movie. I know that Prince Caspian will be even better. I told Doug during our interview, that I am so excited about seeing this film that I feel like a child again.

He laughed and told me I will be thrilled.

He continued “...the enemy has tried to steal the film industry, but he has not succeeded. Many in our day seem to think that it is political leaders who shape the future; nothing could be farther from the truth. It is artists and writers, people who form the imagination, they are the ones who frame the future”

I know he is correct.

Like millions the world over, my life was forever changed by the literary genius and the deep Christian faith of C.S. (Clive Staples) Lewis.

I had the privilege of sharing a bit of my own story in an exclusive interview that Catholic Online had with Douglas Gresham, a co-producer of the upcoming spectacular second movie in the Chronicles of Narnia series entitled “Prince Caspian”.

The film debuts in theatres throughout the United States on May 16, 2008.

I would have liked to see all of "Chronicles" made into movies. However, the transition from "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" to "Prince Caspian" works for a film adaptation.

I do have to wonder how "The Last Battle" will be done, should there be a major motion picture version.

Oh, this is exciting!!! The film looks brilliant, and Caspian is such a great story.

Can't wait for Dawn Treader and Horse and His Boy, though -- if they should end up being made.

If they want to use the same children, they'll have to make "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" next.

My favorite book in the series is "A Horse and his boy" but since "the children" are adults in this book, they can make this one a movie any time they want.

I just went to NarniaWeb.com and they confirmed my thoughts on the the order of the first 4 movies, based on the age of the characters in each story. I think they would have to shoot "The Last Battle" 5th, if they want to use the same actors.

Walden Media and Walt Disney Pictures released their film adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in December 2005, grossing over $740 Million worldwide. Now, work is progressing on the next two Narnia films. Prince Caspian releases on May 16, 2008, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader on May 7, 2010. The Silver Chair has not been officially greenlit yet, but the filmmakers intend to make that film next, and hope to eventually produce all seven.

Interesting. Just where do they plan to fit "The Magician's Nephew" into all of this should the entire series be produced?

Since they don’t feature the children, I suspect they will make “A Horse and his Boy” and “The Magician’s Nephew” last.

That is a possibility, though it seems a bit anti-climactic to follow up "The Last Battle" with a prequel.

Of course, time is of the essence if Walden hopes to keep the original actors and actresses (Pevensies). Even five movies out of the original seven books would suffice. IIRC, the earlier and less successful attempts at recreating the Chronicles in film only produced four or five at the most.

If they were really serious about the series, and willing to invest in it, they’d film Last Battle soon and save it. Do special effects, post production on the film close to its release date and then release it then.

That way, they could have the same children.

Didn’t they film all of the LOTR movies at once?
