Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama flatly promised to raise taxes in a television interview Thursday afternoon.
I will raise CEO taxes, Obama told CNNs Wolf Blitzer on The Situation Room.
If youre a CEO in this country youll probably pay more taxes, Obama said. Obama speculated his CEO tax rates wont be prohibitively high, youll pay roughly what you did in the 90s when they were doing fine.
Obama also said he would eliminate the Bush tax cuts and install what he called a middle class tax cut.
Blitzer asked Obama to define middle class.
Obama replied, You know, I think the definitions are always a little bit rough and said if youre making $100,000 a year or less, then youre pretty solidly middle class On the other hand, if youre making more than $100,000 and certainly if youre making more than $200,000 or $250,000, youre doing pretty well.
The CNN interview was the first one Obama has held since Tuesdays primaries in Indiana and North Carolina. In it, the Illinois senator also discussed his judicial philosophy. Obama, who has delivered constitutional lectures at University of Chicago Law School, said he thought Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a very sensible judge. He also hinted he would place special emphasis on civil rights protections when appointing Supreme Court judges if elected President.
Weve got to make sure civil liberties are protected, Obama said. Because oftentimes there are pressures placed on politicians to want to set civil liberties aside, especially at a time when weve had terrorist attacks. Making sure we maintain our separation of powers so that we dont have a president who is takes over more and more power, I think those are all criteria by which Id judge whether or not this is a good appointee.

It would be wonderful if we had the option to remove an opposing vote instead of casting one in favor.
It might make for an interesting result
Obomary: -49%
McCain: -44%
McCain takes it by 5% fewer pissed off constituents.
I have a number of friends in Manhattan on $100k salaries. Their existence is pitiful, and need every dime they can scrounge.
This 100K is probably a combined family income too. So if you make over 50K them you would be considered wealthy.
Just maybe some did not see it in September. This is something that should always be mentioned when talking about both democrats.
Ok, right - but again just because Obama says he’ll raise taxes it’s still the W&M that does it ... there might be some people (maybe)who won’t go along with it .. .
“This 100K is probably a combined family income too. So if you make over 50K them you would be considered wealthy.”
Yes, this stands to be repeated.
If you make more than $50K, you and your double income family are now “wealthy” and “doing pretty well”. Good luck paying the ARM on your $500K hovel in CA.
I wonder how many folks will go into default after they get their revised ‘09 withholdings?
He's a crypto Communist.
A tax on a specific occupation? Good luck on that. Obama knows this would not fly, and it's nothing more than populist rhetoric.
No wonder so many companies have moved their registrations off-shore. It's this kind of “politics” that have created job losses in the USA. Between Corporate Income Taxes, FICA, and the Estate Tax there's no real reason to work and/or start up a business in the USA.
At some point in time it will be better just to collect unemployment and social benefits than to work.
The guy has evidently not worked a day in his life. Most CEO’s got to the top by a lot of hard work and provide their employees with a good wage and good benefits.
JMHO/rant off
Make $100K and lose half of your income to taxes.
Hey thanks, Obama.
Yeah and maybe wives should quit working. What’s the use if all that extra income is going to be eaten up in taxes?
He’s also been pretty definitive on who he’d like to see on the Supreme Court:
“...like (Ruth “Bader”)Ginzberg, Stevens, ...Souter”
The Triumvirate of Traitors...
Why is the right of citizens to be secure in their property (personal and real) never listed as a "civil liberty"?
You are correct, sir. In the last debate, it was pointed out to Obama that cutting the capital gains tax would result in a dramatic increase in tax revenues. Obama responded that it wasn't about raising more revenue; instead, it was a matter of fairness, and it simply wasn't fair that someone made a lot of money on capital gains.
Yes, Obama is a straight-up Marxist.
Come on, let's change the greatest country in the history of the planet Earth.
Below are a few lines from Obamas books in his own words:
From Dreams of My Father: I ceased to advertise my mothers race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.
From Dreams of My Father: I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mothers race.
From Dreams of My Father: There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.
From Dreams of My Father: It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.
From Dreams of My Father: I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didnt speak to my own. It was into my fathers image, the black man, son of Africa , that Id packed all the attributes I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.
From Audacity of Hope: I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.
He’s right up there with Hillary “we’re gonna have to take some things away from you”
“if youre making more than $100,000 and certainly if youre making more than $200,000 or $250,000, youre doing pretty well.
So those union longshoreman in California making more than 100K, you gonna tax them more?
