George Stephanopoulos - Clinton Might Be Negotiating Spot on '08 Ticket
abcnews.com ^ | May 8th, 2008 | George Stephanopoulos

Is Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., staying in the race to get the vice presidential slot?

George thinks so.

Clinton vowed to fight on today, despite a growing chorus that says Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has just about wrapped up the Democratic presidential nominaton.

ABC's chief Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos told Charles Gibson on "World News" that Clinton is staying in the race to negotiate a spot on the Democratic ticket in November.

CHARLES GIBSON: George, she puts on a brave face in public. What's going on behind the scenes?

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Well, I think it's fair to say ... that everyone's waiting for a signal from her on how to go forward. Today, the signal was very clear — we're staying in — [according to] the Clinton campaign. And it's based on the hope that anything can happen. And that every Democrat deserves a vote. That's the principal they're running on right now. The arguments against, inside right now, are you may be spending a lot more money in [a] futile effort. You may also be dividing the party the longer you go on. You heard (California Sen.) Dianne Feinstein say that as well, but the math just doesn't work.

Makes no sense to pick her as Veep candidate.

Except that the operative word was "negotiation." The Clintons could direct boo koo dead-president greenbacks BHO's way.

Barry has risen from down-and-out in Indonesia to being set for life tomorrow, even ahead of November's election. All he would have to do is say is, "OK, you can have my VP slot."

Maybe it’s not Obama’s VP , she’s looking at.

Even if she doesn’t resort to Arkanicide, can you imagine the (excuse the expression) chaos she could cause for Obama? As VP, she would again have access to all sorts of documents and could have access to e-mails and plant a moll that would do everything they could to sabotage him and cause him, number one, to be ineffective because he would have to play defense, and number two, even go so far as to have to make him resign. Then she’s all set to be president.

The down side (for her, not us) to that strategery would be if Obama is mired in scandal, then that would rub off on her. Then all her scandals and her husband’s would then bubble up again and she wouldn’t have a shot at 2012.

He’d be crazy to take her as Veep unless he is forced to do it in some sort of deal for not counting Fla. and Mich.

Would YOU put Hillary in the VP slot? He had better have a food taster and wear a Kevlar vest.

Yeah, and stay away from Washington parks like Fort Marcy.

Returns in 12

Nah...her "personal demographics" won't hold up at age 65.....she'll look like Madelaine Albright by then, and that sort of hideousness doesn't fly for candidates.

It was going to be Obama/Clinton all along. All the guilty well to do whites will vote for Obama, feminists and die hard Democrats of every color will vote for HRC. And let us not forget the voting dead.

Just what I was thinking. Elect a naive booby as president and put HER only a heartbeat away? Now that is a recipe for suicide.

[George] can't stand the Hildebeast.

People don't always do things out of positive motivations. Think approach-avoidance. We might recall Georgie and it had a rather friction-filled interview not long ago. Perhaps he's motivated to "make up," as I'm sure the 'beast has more than an FBI file's worth on diminutive George.

The problem with taking her as vp is that he gets Bill medding constantly. He would be nuts.

Nothing that I have seen regarding Obama and his campaign indicates any propensity for self-destruction. Given the propensity of opponents or potential obstacles to the Clintons to commit “suicide” or become the victims of violent deaths, I doubt Obama or his handlers would allow Hillary on the ticket. If he needs to retain blue collar white Democrats to counter McCain, someone like Senator Casey of Pennsylvania or Senator Webb of Virginia would be far better choices.

If it’s Obama/Clinton, I think McCain will lose.

Absolutely, McCain will lose!

The last VP of a losing election to get their parties nod was Mondale in 84. Not sure if being the VP on a losing ticket is the place to be.

Hildabeast and Obamarosa living under the same roof with Bill roaming the halls and influencing Barack O'Newbie?

OH Yeah, That's gonna happen. Pfft.

This is one of the reasons why I believe Stephanopolis is one of the least informed political pundits out there. Clinton will not be on the ticket. She doesn’t want to play second fiddle to Obama, there is nothing in it for her. And even if she did, Obama doesn’t want her there.

The upside for Clinton here is an Obama defeat which puts in the catbird seat for ‘12.

Being second fiddle on a losing ticket did so much for Lieberman and Edwards and Kemp and their ambitions, didn't it?
