George Stephanopoulos - Clinton Might Be Negotiating Spot on '08 Ticket
abcnews.com ^ | May 8th, 2008 | George Stephanopoulos

Posted on 05/08/2008 9:08:40 AM PDT by The_Republican

Is Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., staying in the race to get the vice presidential slot?

George thinks so.

Clinton vowed to fight on today, despite a growing chorus that says Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has just about wrapped up the Democratic presidential nominaton.

ABC's chief Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos told Charles Gibson on "World News" that Clinton is staying in the race to negotiate a spot on the Democratic ticket in November.

CHARLES GIBSON: George, she puts on a brave face in public. What's going on behind the scenes?

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Well, I think it's fair to say ... that everyone's waiting for a signal from her on how to go forward. Today, the signal was very clear — we're staying in — [according to] the Clinton campaign. And it's based on the hope that anything can happen. And that every Democrat deserves a vote. That's the principal they're running on right now. The arguments against, inside right now, are you may be spending a lot more money in [a] futile effort. You may also be dividing the party the longer you go on. You heard (California Sen.) Dianne Feinstein say that as well, but the math just doesn't work.

The upside for Clinton here is an Obama defeat which puts in the catbird seat for ‘12.

If any one thinks Hillary is going to run as Obambi’s VP , they only need to look into Michelle's eyes . There will be just one woman telling this man what is what .

If it’s Obama/Clinton, I think McCain will lose.

Would YOU put Hillary in the VP slot? He had better have a food taster and wear a Kevlar vest.

HRC won’t take the VP slot. She wants Obama to lose the election, so she can be the candidate in 4 years.

I could be wrong, but does anyone think that Obama picking Hillary as VP makes any sense?

In other words, Rush Limbaugh's "Operation Chaos," by keeping Hillary in the race, may help bring about the Democrat "Unity Ticket" that is generally considered the best shot at capturing the White House.

Smooth move, El Rushbo.

I highly doubt this.. HillBilly is not going to settle for second fiddle.. especially figure head second fiddle. She’s better of going back to NY and take over the governorship and return in 12 if her goal is the Presidency, than to be the VP on a Fauxbama ticket.

Prediction:

Party gives Fauxbama the nod, because they are idiots.. he loses the general election big time, HillBilly returns to NY and gets the embattled governorship. Returns in 12 with the anti-clinton crowd that didn’t support her in 08 coming home to roost after watching Fauxbama get pasted. She secures the nomination quickly and is virtually unopposed because of how close she came and the organization she has built this time around.

I do not see her taking second fiddle seat, especially second fiddle to someone that it is blindingly obvious cannot win a general election.

I don’t think it makes any sense. Obama/Rodham Hussein would have twice the negatives of Obama/anyone else.

Can you just imagine how sweet it would be for Barack to promise her the VP slot if she drops out, then at the convention in front of millions with Hillary's foot on the podium step he announced someone else??

Hey, a guy can dream can't he, the look on her face would be etched in memory forever....

If Hillary were VP the Pres would have to watch his back all then time.
Just think about all the people who have dealt with the Clintons and who are either missing or mysteriously dead.

What is Stephanopoulos smoking? If you want to be someone’s VP, you don’t make it as difficult as possible for that person to secure the nomination. And the longer Hillary keeps this up, the more the Obama supporters hate her. Then there’s Hillary’s famous negatives among the public. And the Clinton Administration baggage. Makes no sense to pick her as Veep candidate.

She won’t settle for veep. Bet on it. Her massive ego would never allow that kind of downsizing.

I agree with your comments. Hillary gives him little if nothing. And the BDS democrats are going to vote for whoever is running against “Bush lite”. I don't see Hillary supporters staying home if Nobama is their candidate.

Don't do it, Obama! Second place will never be good enough for her and I wouldn't want to be you when she decides she wants you out of there.

Would you rather be VP of the US or an instrumental Senator from New York. She should stay put like Nixon did and help get other dems elected in 2010 and then run again..

Georgie is floating this trial balloon for her, to get that meme out in many people's consciousness, as if it were plausible. Little does she understand that the history of what Alamo-girl has compiled has been out in the consciousness of the US citizenry a lot longer, and more pervasively.

Mee-shell will certainly understand it as an accident waiting to happen, and will not let the new ménage à trois (to include the muslim Huma; is that now three for the price of one?) near her hubby's VP slot.

From what I understand, part of the reason George left the Clinton WH for ABC is that he can't stand the Hildebeast. I suspect it's not a trial balloon, but a warning.
