For all we know, there is 100 or 1,000 or a million times more to be found than the old fields had originally. If so, then old fields could go to zero and we would still have more than we can use.

Manna from heaven in other words. Keep on praying, why doncha?

Found on Nealz Nuze today (http://boortz.com/nuze/index.html) 'Reading Assignments:

McCain says it is up to the states to drill for oil.  He says he would offer incentives for states to drill but he wouldn't force them to drill in any "environmentally sensitive" areas.

The Republicans tried, but were thwarted at every turn by the Democrat Gestapo.

As I understand it, there are two grades of oil ... sweet and (sour?) ...

So, I think I remember we desire ME oil because it is the sweet kind.

Many grades of oil, besides sweet/sour (sulfur content) the heavy/intermediate/light (°API, gravity) make a big difference as well.

Landed Costs of Imported Crude by API Gravity

We import all grades.

1% Sulfur is considered "Sour". Much, but not all, of the Middle East Crudes are sour.

Sour Oil is that which has high concentrations of Sulfides. Hydrogen Sulfides (H2S) are the most difficult to refine, because the gases that accompany it are very deadly. Only 10 parts per million will cause a person to become unconscious. Above that and instant death will occur. It acts much like a nerve agent.

H2S is also highly soluble in water, so it’s disposal is also costly and difficult. It usually has to be flared off.

The Canadian field is dominated by “sour crude”, which is why many Canadian distillates have such a Sulfurous odor to them. Particularly Gasoline from Canada. It has that “rotten egg” smell to it, which characterizes the smell of H2S. In fact, if you can smell H2S, it is in concentrations that are still safe. Concentrations of it that are deadly are undetectable by smell, because it has already disabled your nervous system and sense of smell. Your only defense then will be sight, because the gas is so heavy, it is visible in that it displaces the air around it.

Hopefully someday we will have cheap energy from clean, safe fusion powered power plants. With the advances in battery technology, super capacitors, and other technology, the fast, high mile, electric car may be in our future.

But the point the author is making is that there is no energy shortage and even if nothing changed there would not be for over 100 years.

Well, that may be partially true, but many of the Republicans were cowed into silence by the threat of revelations of their own misbehavior.

I would guess closer to $8 a gallon.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2008480/posts?page=118#118

But if oil/gasoline becomes that expensive, I would expect to see coal/natural gas/nuclear to have become more expensive by then pushing the balance point even higher.

Every time I think of that subject, I think of Trent Lott, who repeatedly caved in and tried to play nice with the Democrats. The deeper the Democrat minority got, the nastier they became. They outright held their breath and pouted like little children when they didn’t get their way.

The RepubliCAN’Ts just gave in to keep the press off their backs.

COWARDS ALL! McCain especially!

***All three of the candidates oppose opening the spigot to the huge oil reserves that are in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.***

McCain is an idiot on this one. ANWR could be producing in just a couple years and is only 70 miles from a main pipeline. Just a bill that opens ANWR because of the knowledge of future supplies would cause the speculators to stop running up the price.

That is the most intelligent post on this subject I have ever seen.

Thanks. You will see it again as it gets refined (no pun intended) and improved. I wanted to tweak it a bit ref Global Warming Hoax, but since both parties have now bought into it hook, line, and sinker, it may be a loser.

Since we have no coherent energy policy, and no national vision, the "Manifesto" sums up my thoughts and amateur research - and I think there may be some common sense in there, too.

Yes, we should have fuel-efficiant cars, but not junk all petro-based transportation. We need to be futuristic, but also realistic and allow capitalism to work unfettered. That's asking a lot from Washington and they just don't think that way any more.

Nuclear plants are base load, not peak. During nighttime plants like Natural Gas Turbines get shutdown, not nuclear plants. They typically run near full capacity 24/7.

The notion that this planet is running out of oil is one of the great misnomers of our age.

This is Peak Oil now. This is what Peak Oil is like.
