As the fate of a nailbiter Indiana primary -- and possibly the course of the Democratic race -- hung on his city, Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said just now that it might take a while yet to finish counting the vote in Lake County, which includes Gary, and said that his city had turned out so overwhelmingly for Barack Obama that it might just be enough to close the gap with Hillary Rodham Clinton.
"Let me tell you, when all the votes are counted, when Gary comes in, I think you're looking at something for the word to see," Clay, an Obama supporter, said in a telephone interview from Obama's Gary headquarters. "I don't know what the numbers are yet, but Gary has absolutely produced in large numbers for Obama here."
Clay said the results were late coming in from Lake County because of the large numbers of absentee ballots that had to be counted -- about 11,000. Under local practice, all of the cartridges from voting machines in Gary and nearby East Chicago are first collected at the local airport before being driven to the county headquarters to be tallied with the results from the rest of the county, he said. He said there were major technical problems holding up the count.
"It takes a little time. We want to be sure that every vote is counted fair and right," he said. "I just talked to the director out there and they are working like junkyard dogs to get that done as soon as possible. They are taking some time but I told them to do it right. That's what taking the time."

heres the math:
200 precincts in Gary then factor in a 150 plurality per precinct of Obama that is 30K votes. then throw in the 11K “cushion” that is 44K obama votes outstanding..
I would guess Chicago politics has moved on to Indiana. Rampant Fraud. Can you say Daley?
In case nobody has said it yet, Wright wants to know:
“Gary be ridin’ dirty for Barry?”
True enough:)
WTH are they DOING? Are there ballots for a paper trail?
That’s one Sermon you won’t hear. Good point though!
IN has been stuck at 92% for thirty minutes.
It’s funny watching all the FNC guys bob and weave as it’s way past their bed time.
Even Rove is nodding off.
Assuming McCain is around and healthy enough to credibly serve for 4 additional years. Unlikely, since he'll already be the oldest major party candidate on general election day 2008.
The most conservative part of Wisconsin are the Milwaukee suburbs. The rural part of the state outside Milwaukee is liberal, much like Minnesota.
Indiana is a much, much more conservative state than Wisconsin. Even so, Obama won Wisconsin at the height of his Obamessiah period.
is there an internet feed for FNC?
Britt Hume just said 6000 absentee votes in Lake Co. won’t be counted tonight. I’m going to bed goodnight.
Hah! They’re pretty low key on CNN too- but there’s a bit of suspicion amongst the panel.
I’ll go watch Brit for a bit now..
BTW- ealier Michael Barone wanted to make some comments about Lake County- Gary in particular. He hesitated and sort of beat around the bush but seemed to be saying there’s some corruption at play.
The panel is getting sleepy and Brit is bitchin’. They have to close the Indiana primary and can’t. That’s funny in itself. :^)
Absentee Ballot Fraud (AGAIN) in Lake County...
Who’d a thunk it...
I don’t know??
Yep.
Terrorist = Republican
Terrorist Leader = Republican who is also an NRA member
Well, they probably won’t resume counting until 8:00a so we won’t know until noon.
And the undeclared SDs finally get a nights’ sleep ha ha.
I could’ve sworn I saw Bill wipe a tear off his cheek tonight.
yawn...me too
What’s strange is the MSM are not discussing Union County which hasn’t reported a single vote. That’s the county Hillary is supposed to win. Are we seeing a dual fraud in front of our eyes?
Take notice of the HUGE Discrepency in number of votes between the Gov’s race and the Presidential race?
The first totals from Lake County,
316 precincts out of 561 reporting.
Almost all of Gary and Merrillville and portion of Munster primarily make up these numbers, plus Lake Station, East Chicago:
Lake county
Democratic candidates
President of the
United States
Barack Obama 46,759
Hillary Clinton 25,100
Total=71,859
Governor
Jim Schellinger 27,515
Jill Long Thompson 32,461
TOTAL=59,976
Almost a TWELVE THOUSAND VOTE (20%) voting gap between the Pres and Gov’s race, which was JUST BELOW on the ballot?????????
