Minor Voting Problems Reported In Indiana

Officials in Indiana are reporting a few minor problems as voters turn out to choose between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton in the drawn-out Democratic race.

One clerk said Democratic ballots had not been delivered to two Indianapolis locations, but voters did have the option of using touch-screen machines at both sites. Two polling locations did not open on time because inspectors were late in arriving. Both of them are open now.

Many voters already were in line when polls opened this morning, and officials are expecting heavy turnout throughout the day.

A Democratic ward chairman in Indianapolis says his polling station could see a 55 percent turnout, compared with to the 8 to 10 percent turnout that is typical for the primary.

Marion County Clerk Beth White said many voters already were in line when polls opened at 6 a.m., Indianapolis television station WRTV reported.

"We really do feel today is going to be a heavy voting day, and our inspectors are ready," said White, the clerk in Indiana's most populous county.

There were lines at Hinkle Fieldhouse, on the Butler University campus, as voters attempted to cast their ballots before going to work.

"I anticipated a crowd coming up here today," said voter Charles Poindexter. "I guess it's going to be that way."

For the first time in 40 years, Indiana will play a vital role in choosing the Democratic presidential nominee this fall.

Obama and Clinton face off in crucial primaries as voters in Indiana and North Carolina crowded polls Tuesday seeking to settle the largest remaining contests in an epic Democratic presidential nomination struggle.

No mention, however, of the MAJOR problem of no decent candidates to vote for.

We'll see how crucial it really is. Many polls so far are predicting a roughly 15% win for Obama in North Carolina, which will be another nail in Hillary's coffin, regardless of whether she wins Indiana. She needs to not only win Indiana, but at least do significantly better than expected in NC, meaning a low single-digit loss or better, to have any real credibility among superdelegates.

The DNC establishment really wants to wrap this up by the end of the month. Hillary needs to show clear signs that her campaign is still viable in order to keep going to the convention. A double-digit loss to Obama after all the problems in his campaign is not going to cut it.

You can expect her to win Indiana, and Obama’s exit polling will be higher than the actual vote count. It seems that every state where there are voting machine problems or ballots not being delivered, she wins that state. The states where Obama has won, the voting mechanics seem to work just fine. No wonder she’s complaining about the caucuses. She can’t rig those.

I’m still hoping for the Battle of Denver to be fought on live television.

Oh, me too. It'll be a blast if it happens. That's why I can forgive my brother crossing over to vote for Hillary here in NC even though we have some important state primaries.

Obviously, the Democrats don't want that. Howard Dean and Jimmy Carter are both on record saying they expect this to be decided by 1 June. The problem, of course, is that, like all good liberals, they want to have their cake and eat it, too. They want to end the contest early, but they also want to end it with the "right" result, meaning with the best candidate in the best position to beat McCain. That those two interests could be mutually exclusive is not something they'll be ready to accept until it's staring them in the face.

The only thing keeping Hillary alive is the conviction of many Democrats that she's the only one who can beat McCain. She'll lose that if she can't stay competitive against Obama. However, if she can stay alive and make a strong case that she's the only Democrat who can win in November, then watch the fireworks start in June, when Obama supporters start to pressure her to drop out. While Carter will endorse Obama, and Dean will promote him behind the scenes, Hillary will have enough die-hard support to resist them all the way to Denver. She also has enough support on the rules committee to make a fight out of whether to count the Florida and Michigan votes. It ought to be fun!

Funny this was on the news this morning even before the polls opened. They had extra poll workers on call in case there was any problem. These problems only happen in the intercity areas.

Yup, If it wasn’t for the Mainstream Media, Voting Machines, and Rush she couldn’t win ‘Dog Catcher’! :-)
