The problem is that there is a ring of truth to what McCain is saying. A lot of anti-illegals GOP Senators and Congressmen went down in flames in 2006. Anti-illegals GOP primary candidates for President also went nowhere.

A lot of anti-illegals GOP Senators and Congressmen went down in flames in 2006.
And even more anti illegal congressmen were elected than were voted out.

This is one of the biggest myths, oh, hell, let’s call it what it is .... a lie, out there.
The lie, “anti-illegal immigration people cost the repubs the 2006 election!!
The truth:11.5% of all Republican seats in Congress were lost as Democrats took back control of Congress
But only 6.7% of the Members of Tancredos Immigration Reform Caucus lost their seats.AND- one of them was Hayworth who voted against HR 4437!
# 9.6% with an A grade lost
# 25.0% with an F grade lost

Rove myth meant at the time to push through “comprehensive” immigration reform.
“Anti-illegals GOP primary candidates for President also went nowhere.”
Name one who didn’t run against an anti-illegal Democrat.

BTW, many states had ballot measures in the 2006 elections strengthening laws against illegal aliens. They ALL passed.
McCain is worse than a liar. I think he believes his own garbage.

Statistically, it was the more liberal members of the Republican caucus who lost. Also, note that many of the Democrats lied about their positions or where anti-illegal alien.
Anti-illegals GOP primary candidates for President also went nowhere.
And as polling has shown it is because the media was lying. Most McCain voters did not know his position because the media never called him on his lies during debates.
The media also chose which candidates to give time to.

A lot of anti-illegals GOP Senators and Congressmen went down in flames in 2006. Illegal immigration had nothing to do with this. Republicans lost because of the general anti-Republican mood of the nation, that it's the Democrats "turn."
Anti-illegals GOP primary candidates for President also went nowhere.
PRO-ILLEGAL Republicans will really go nowhere if they keep buying this ridiculous false pretense that they need to "reach out" to Hispanics. These illegals aren't going to vote Republican if they become legalized.
