And, yes, Regiments in the British Army have traditionally been based on geographical areas: The Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders, The Irish Guards, The Queens Lancashire Regiment, The Welsh Guards, etc.

Who doesn’t? The Queen? Given that she’s the head of the Church of England you wouldn’t really need to guess, would you?
This doesn’t make sense. I was always led to believe that allegiance to the Queen was a prerequisite for guarding her. This is why some commonwealth countries, such as Jamaica, Canada Australia etc have been able to mount her guard (increasingly frequently as demand is put on British guards to go on active service abroad) but not those from republican countries.
The Royal Malaysia Regiment’s allegiance is to the Malaysian Royal family, so that should mean they are not eligable to guard our Queen....

I have been simply astounded at the stupidity and ignorance of the majority of posters in this thread.
Second, I don't need a lesson in British military history to believe this is a bad idea. I wouldn't want a regiment of them guarding our President either. No, I don't think all "Mooslims" are a threat but, I do believe it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to safeguarding the life of a country's leader. Decades??? My answer to that: 9/11/01, USS Cole, US Embassy Lebanon, to name a few. Some people fail to learn from history - even recent history, obviously.
Firstly, mate is a term used by British people, usually in sarcasm, it isnt meant literally.
Secondly, apologies if I was rude, but I took and take great offence at the insults here being heaped on a legendary regiment who fought in the British Army, and my anger manifested itself in my language.Again, apologies.
Thirdly, again, I ask you to look at the history of this regiment. The fact they are Muslims means bugger all.They are a fine regiment with a fine history of service to Britain.
Lastly, why are they a threat?. We have had thousands of Irish Catholics in our ranks, and did even one help the IRA?.No, they served as the British soldiers they were and helped defeat the IRA.
There are Muslims in your armed forces and ours and Canada’s, Australia’s, France’s....what about them?.

If you lot are scared by a 130 strong group from a legendary Muslim ww2 unit, then that frankly says more about America than Britain.
