Open Letter To Environmentalists

Thank you for your dedication to protecting our environment. Clean air and clean water are essential to preserving life on planet Earth. Protecting all species and natural lands and forests are admirable priorities. Recycling and a green lifestyle are wonderful. Making the environment the most important thing in your life is a good thing, not a problem. I support you.

But we do have a problem. You have vigorously embraced the Global Warming predictions of the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and are using the warning of uncontrollable warming and a resulting environmental calamity to campaign for elimination of fossil fuels. Your environmentally conscious friends in politics and in the media have united with you to create a barrage of news reports, documentaries, TV feature reports, movies, books, concerts and protest events to build support for your goals. The war against fossil fuels has become a massive scare campaign that is giving children nightmares.

Here's what's wrong with that: the science is not valid. There is no Global Warming underway and the science on which the computer projections of weather chaos are based is wrong. Dead wrong.

I know many scientists are part of your movement and they have tried hard to give your uncontrollable climate change panic a scientific basis. The UN Climate Change Panel has a large staff, a big budget, a headquarters in Geneva and a strong champion in Al Gore to lead the charge. And thousands of well-intentioned politicians and the media of the world have supported your movement. It must seem to you that there can be no doubt: fossil fuels are destroying the environment and will lead to uncontrollable global warming unless we act now.

A great letter from a courageous man. I have only one bone to pick with it. This:

“Let go of the global warming frenzy before it leaves you discredited and embarrassed.”

Personally, I really don’t want the global warming lefists to give up their screed just yet. When the fraud is fully exposed in the near future, I want these people to be publicly discredited. I want them to be embarrassed and humiliated and scorned for the petty conmen they are.

Unfortunately this voice of reason will be denounced as heresy by the global warming cultists and Coleman will be portrayed as a tool of big oil, the Bush Administration etc. The MSM will also ignore Coleman's letter except in denouncing it. The global warming cult is little different than the earth centered universe model embraced by the Catholic Church in the 15th & 16th centuries. I refuse to discuss Climate change. That's stuff that can only be studied scientifically after the fact.

The very notion that man can control climate is so beyond the pale that The Age of Insanity will be the proper label when the period 1980-2010 is discussed in the History books.

The Religious Wars of the 16th and 17th centuries are a lot more complex than the throwing around emotionally-charged words like "Inquisition" and "Catholic Church". The political dimension of the period was overwhelmingly the driving force in the conflict of the time and the "Church" is a convenient excuse to remain ignorant.

As a tiny example, the fact that Bruno was a priest (as were most of the scientists of the age), and thus firmly in (by today's activists standards) in the homosexuals' enemy camp is not exactly widely known, or considered relevant.

So let's give that old straw man a rest...

Right players, wrong analogy.

 

The Catholic Church neither endorsed heliocentrism (earth orbiting sun) nor geocentrism (sun orbiting earth) because at the time there were only theories and not science. 

 

When Galileo discovered that Jupiter had four moons, he offered this as evidence of heliocentrism.  He was reprimanded not for his conclusion but for his unscientific method in supporting it.  (At the time, astromoner Tycho Brahe offered the more plausible theory of heliocentrism.)  Cardinal Bellarmine admonished Galileo to not teach that the earth moves around the sun unless he could prove it. 

 

So in today's world, it is Gore who is the modern day Galileo and ought to be reprimanded for teaching theory as science.  In fact, Pope Benedict did just that in December 2007.

The only thing I would say to Coleman’s logical argument is that he is giving enviro-wackos credit for having integrity. I’m sure there are numbers of enviros who really do believe they’re saving the planet. But Coleman forgets that the people leading the movement are mostly hard-leftists who sole goal is to destroy free-market capitalism. Which is what will happen if the world agrees to all the enviro-wacko extremist goals.

I applaud his attempts at moderating this crazed frenzy and attempting a rational discussion but I fear it's too little, too late.

Far too many politicans and "scientists" world-wide have staked their reputation and careers on this scam already. It's lose-lose for them, either reverse positions and leave the stage now or keep the frenzy up and keep the stage for a little longer. As long as the MSM keeps running interference for them, the charade will go on and we'll never have any serious research considered.

We just got back from ten days in Italy and The Netherlands. Both CNN & the BBC constantly throw a barrage of "climate change this" and "global warming that." It's in-escapable.

I have have come to wonder if Tom Clancy and Michael Creighton are correct. There is a worldwide move to heard us all into obedience to a ruling governmental aristocracy....and exterminate us.

An Alaska travel program was on an HD channel.

Ironically, Global Warming is a far sight better for human beings than Global Cooling would be. At least, with Global Warming, we can feed people. With Global Cooling, areas that are great for agriculture now, will be too cold to sustain it, and there will be a true shortage of food before folks figure out new areas to grow food.

We have always been big Science, History, Discovery, TLC and Nat. Geo. channel watchers. We are astounded at the number of shows that bring AGW into the discussion, even when nothing in the meat of the show warrants it! It’s amusing, and exasperating, to see just how quickly the shows devolve into the AGW scare mongering.
