A Day in the Life of President Bush...05-03-08
Yahoo News Photos; Whitehouse.gov | Daisyscarlett

Posted on 05/03/2008 3:49:01 PM PDT by daisyscarlett

President Bush gave his Radio Address today from Crawford TX. The focus of the speech was the economy.

Friday evening, VP Cheney attended a fundraiser in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice returned to the Middle East on Saturday to provide a badly needed shot in the arm for the Middle East peace process ahead of a visit by President George W. Bush.

Commemorative items for the upcoming wedding of first daughter Jenna Bush and her fiance Henry Hager are now on sale at The Red Bull in Waco, Texas.

I probably jumped the gun by saying they are “tacky” because Jenna and Henry are a lovely couple and those TX boots are kinda cute.

You continue to be a great leader and a hero of the 21st century.

Agreed and I know he can't wait to get home to TX and he will have the comfort of knowing he served his country well.

Most everyone gets some somewhat tacky favors for weddings. Little bells and such. Actually the hats are inventive and different. I always think you need something for the kids as well. I think they will like those.

My favorites are always the ones with a picture of the Bride and Groom together...and maybe a little candy for the little kid in me.

I think it's sweet that they made them all to be just like wedding favors so more people in the country can share in their celebration. You can tell that Jenna is really sweet...just like her Mom.

I think I saw some coffee mugs with their picture on it in the above pic.

BUSH GETS PERSONAL WITH PUBLIC
By Jon Ward
May 3, 2008

President Bush shows an upbeat demeanor yesterday as he leaves the White House for St. Louis.

President Bush unexpectedly offered a rare glimpse into his psyche yesterday, revealing the burden of being a president’s son, his preoccupation with his daughter’s pending nuptials and his affinity for Laura’s White House.

BUSH ‘R’ IS FOR ‘RIGHT’
By Lawrence Kudlow

President George W. Bush may turn out to be the top economic forecaster in the country.

About a month ago he told reporters, “We’re not in a recession, we’re in a slowdown.” At a White House news conference a few weeks later, despite the fact that reporters pressed him to use the “R” word, Mr. Bush refused. And on Friday, after the most recent jobs report — which produced a much-smaller-than-expected decline in corporate payrolls, a huge 362,000 increase in the more entrepreneurial household survey (the best gain in five months), and a historically low 5 percent unemployment rate (4.95 percent, to be precise) — the president told reporters: “This economy is going to come on. I’m confident it will.”

Wonderful Dose tonight and early. I love Vice President Cheney’s yellow tie. The President’s radio message for Saturday was just so right on. I hope he speaks up a lot about conservative issues.
I can’t wait for the the wedding. Dr.Deb put up a website in last nights Dose that has everything you would want about the wedding. It is total coverage right up to May 10th!

"And there's love in that White House, thanks to a good wife," Mr. Bush said of first lady Laura Bush, as the crowd applauded. "She's great ... which is one of the reasons this has been a fabulous experience."

I apologize for not pinging you, but I just talked about the website you put up on last nights Dose that covers the wedding beautifully. I don’t know how to link so just mentioned that it was in yesterdays Dose. I went on the sight and it was so much fun! Thank you.

They remind me of several of the unofficial souvenirs that appear in Britain when there is a major Royal event such as a wedding or anniversary. Some are cute but most are tacky.

I don't think they are official replicas of wedding favors. I think a vendor just made these to sell to the general public. I hope we do get to see what the wedding favors actually are. And also what they come up with when a photo of Jenna and the Bush women in their gowns etc. are released. So far the only official things released are sketches of Barbara's gown and the house parties gowns and these gorgeous earrings that Jenna will wear:

Nak Armstrong and Anthony Camargo of Austin-based jewelry company Anthony Nak have designed these earrings for first daughter Jenna Bush’s May 10 wedding, an Anthony Nak spokeswoman confirmed today.

Brandy J. Smith, marketing coordinator for Anthony Nak, said, “We are doing Jenna’s earrings for the wedding. Other than that we can’t say anything until after the wedding. Of course, Anthony and Nak are very happy for Jenna and are excited about the wedding.”

The earrings are custom-made chain-framed minted iced quartz with diamond details in 18-carat white gold and platinum. They will be worn with an Oscar de la Renta gown that Bush will wear for the evening ceremony at her family’s Crawford ranch.

I loved the photos of Cheney. He seemed so humble at the great audience reaction to him. I hope he knows that most conservatives love and appreciate him.

Some of the souvenirs that Great Britain has put out in the past are very valuable now. I remember seeing I think on the Antique Roadshow a complete set of china in commemoration of some royal event decades ago. (Maybe Queen Elizabeth’s wedding) It was exquisite and made by Wedgwood or some famous company.

The official ones are but as you say the ones that the vendors put out are often shoddy goods and rather tacky though in some occasions some of the non official ones can be as good and somehow capture the spirit of the event than the more straight laced official ones.

We have an old waste bin which was an unofficial Charles/Diana wedding souvenir my nan loved it and it is still in use in dad's bedroom. The photo on it is the engagement photo whereas the official souvenirs were all coats of arms etc.

My spouse is a collector but I usually don't have much interest in it. Although, it would be nice to obtain an official memorabilia item of Jenna's wedding. That would be something worth collecting and I will be able to enjoy it as well.

I have collected most of the books about Diana..and as I said, I rarely "collect" anything myself.

I do miss seeing that dear lovely girl. I will never get over the images of their wedding. What a wonderful time it was to watch their love develop, the beautiful wedding and their children being born.

Now it's like remembering a flower that has since faded away. Sigh....
