Boris Johnson has won the race to become the next mayor of London - ending Ken Livingstone's eight-year reign at City Hall.
The Conservative candidate won with 1,168,738 first and second preference votes, compared with Mr Livingstone's 1,028,966 on a record turnout of 45%.

Nice to see that the people of London came to their senses and threw 'Red Ken' out of office. He was an embarassment to the city and his support for Hugo Chavez and his anti-american, islamist apologist attitudes had no place in Great Britain politics. Article below is a great example of how the left loves Hugo and just like Global Warming, are ready to believe anything, even if facts say otherwise.

What is the is first and second preference votes thing? Did the leftists in London come up with a voting method to try to assure themselves that the left vote could never be split and a conservative win in a three person race?

Nice to see some Brits come to their senses and throw that worthless POS out of office.
I hope Britain is turning the corner.

I do not know the answer to your question but I do know that some of my acquaintances who are left-wing moonbats have been advocating such a system for several years.

There was no good outcome for Labour in this contest. The Conservative candidate winning is bad news for Labour, but Red Ken winning would have been bad as well.

There are arguement to be made for preference voting. There is a literature on optimal voting schemes.
So I will not say it is bad and where I live it would assure a lefty would never or at least rarely win in a split vote. It just makes a conseravtive’s win in big city all the more amazing.

Politics is a very funny game. I read in a British newspaper, that were not many conservatives who wanted to run against Livingstone for mayor. Johnson was the fifth guy the party asked to run before they got Johnson to accept.

They would have to make “Day of the Living Dead” to do so.
