On the day Democrats hold a crucial primary in North Carolina, John McCain will venture to the Tar Heel State to lay out his vision on what kind of judges he would appoint to the bench.
The McCain campaign tells CNN's Dana Bash the Arizona senator will deliver a speech next Tuesday at Wake Forrest University designed to help bolster his standing among conservatives with regard to the issue of judges.
Many conservatives took issue with McCain in 2005 for signing on to the so-called "gang of 14″ in the Senate a bipartisan group of senators who sought to find a compromise on some of President Bush's judicial nominees.
Oh, and be sure to read the accompanying comments. Here are just a few gems:
The last thing we need are more stone age thinking right wing nut jobs sitting on the bench for life.
Is this the same McCain that was a POW? What was that he said about the USA? And isn't this the same McCain that was involved with the Keating 5? But, guess what, he wears a flag pin!!!!!!! And the judges he appoints will be of the same caliber.
He`ll appoint conservative judges to go along with Roberts, flushing out the more liberal ones. - Heaven help us all when this happens. Big Corporations will win
All we need are to more Justices like Bush picked. They will start giving corporations the right to vote. For all of the democrats who say they won't vote if their candidate doesn't win the nomination think about having the Supreme Count controlled by the EXTREME RIDIACAL RIGHT. Is that what you want? I want a court that is balanced not an ideology base of conservatives. I want a court that returns to the constitution.

Federal judges ping.
The part where the liberal blogger says he wants the courts to “return to the Constitution” is priceless. To state the obvious, that is not what the Warren Court was known for.
Will McCain promise to appoint the type of justices who would throw out McCain-Feingold ?
I’ve heard that McCain will first consult with his Kosovo Mohammedan, drug running, white slaving campaign financiers before he makes those judicial appointments. I’m sure knowing who finances McCain will make many conservatives all the more proud to support him! Yup! /s
He's got a nasty temper and there is no telling what he'll do next. He's totally unpredictable. Maybe he needs alittle waterboarding to straighten himself out. Yes, he is the "lessor of the two evils" but he's still evil.
This is too funny to read! You can just picture this bed wetting liberals forehead vain poppin’ out while he frantically types his rant. Sweat cascading from his brow... “Helter Skelter” playing in the background, a smoke dangling from his lip and all from his Mom’s basement.
“to lay out his vision on what kind of judges he would appoint to the bench.”
...after consulting with the skipper of the SS Oldsmobile.
Please.
If you want us to vote for McCain -- and most of us certainly will -- please don't insult our intelligence by calling him something he's not.
McCain is the Republican candidate. He might even be considered the "conservative candidate...kinda". But that doesn't make him a conservative...
How about "Common Sense Moderation"...???
How about get off my back. It’s one of his campaign’s slogans.
Doesn't make it true.
He can say anything, but that does not make it true. McCain is known for his lies and signs of senility.
http://tinyurl.com/npt6tThe consequence of widespread constitutional ignorance is that the people are impotent to stop Constitution-ignoring lawmakers and judges from walking all over the people's freedoms and throwing taxpayer's money down the toilet.

Today's concern for whether majority justices are liberal or conservative got started in the days of FDR's dirty politics, in my opinion. The problems began when FDR got the Court to give the green light to his constitutionally unauthorized New Deal programs; the Court scandalously politically repealed 10th A. protected state powers in order to do so. By doing so FDR foolishly created a political situation where many of our congressional "leaders" go to DC to party and spend our tax dollars like drunken sailors.
And what's worse than FDR's dirty politics is that corrupt justices then began using FDR's "license" to ignore 10th A. protected state powers in state power related cases. Doing so ultimately weakened traditional family values.
This post (<-click), while addressing tax issues, provides more details as to how out-of-control federal government spending got started when FDR established his constitutionally unauthorized New Deal programs.
And this post (<-click) gives examples of how corrupt justices then began using FDR's "license" to ignore 10th A. protected state powers to eventually stifle traditional family values. The USSC's scandalous legalization of abortion and today's suppression of ID discussion in public school classrooms are examples of this corruption.
The truth of the matter is that, not only is the honest interpretation of the Constitution decidedly pro-conservative, but as Jefferson pointed out in general, you don't have to be in a robe to be able to interpret the Constitution. In fact, here's Jefferson's "secret formulas" for interpreting the Constitution.
"Laws are made for men of ordinary understanding and should, therefore, be construed by the ordinary rules of common sense. Their meaning is not to be sought for in metaphysical subtleties which may make anything mean everything or nothing at pleasure." --Thomas Jefferson to William Johnson, 1823. ME 15:450The bottom line is that, instead of blaming things on Constitution-ignoring justices, the people need to reconnect with the Founder's intentions for the division of federal and government state powers. The people then need to get in the faces of the feds, demanding that the feds start respecting the Constitution that they have sworn to defend, particularly where now-ignored 10th A. protected state powers are concerned. This not only includes allowing religion-related discussions in public schools while respecting people's 14th A. protections, but also putting a stop to all constitutionally unauthorized federal spending and appropriately lowering federal taxes."Common sense [is] the foundation of all authorities, of the laws themselves, and of their construction." --Thomas Jefferson: Batture at New Orleans, 1812. ME 18:92
"Common sense is not so common." --Voltaire, French author, humanist, rationalist, & satirist (1694 - 1778) ;^)
I found your post well reasoned and spot on, especially placing blame for the current situation right where it belongs, namely with "the people. More specifically, ignorance of the Constitution and its history is epidemic. Widespread constitutional ignorance..." At this juncture, I'm afraid we've gotten what we've tolerated and condoned over the past 75 years or so.
I would like to be optimistic, but we've had the barbarians at the gate for a very long time now. We have a Congress largely populated by a gang of self-serving political hacks whose principal interest is getting reelected term after term, pausing only to vote themselves raises, scandalous pension and other benefits, and as many other perks as they believe they can slide under the noses of the voters. Then we have a huge, inept and corrupt federal bureaucracy which will do anything to protect their rice bowls and expand their regulatory reach. Finally, we come to our schools, colleges and universities, now under the iron control of left-wing academia, which is responsible for many past generations of dumbed down graduates and that has every intention of holding up their part of the left-wing agenda.
At bottom, it's going to take far more than merely "getting in their faces". No, that will be insufficient. What is needed now is the same sort of resolve, patriotism and dedication possessed by America's founders.
Liberty and freedom have never been cheaply won. Nor retained.
It won’t be until the corporate leaders make the decision to cut their salaries and bonus packages that the legislators will feel sufficient pressure to follow suit. Until that time, we will continue the downhill rush.
Now just how we will regain our national sovereignty, which we’ll have voluntarily tossed out the door (into the waiting hands of the UN), I have no idea.
