Saturday, May 3, 2008 6:38 AM CDT Postville men arrested, charged with 27 fishing violations WEST UNION (AP) --- Three men have been arrested and charged with 27 fishing violations after using beer cans to catch trout from a northeastern Iowa creek.
Authorities say an off-duty Fayette County deputy noticed suspicious fishing activity at Glovers Creek trout stream earlier this week. He called the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
DNR officials accuse the three men of illegally tying fishing lines to empty beer cans, then dragging the cans with the catch to shore. Authorities seized the trout, illegal fishing lines, rods and reels, beer and a van with Wisconsin license plates.
Authorities say the men were not U.S. citizens and that immigration officials were notified.
Officials say the men had been living in Postville.

Similar techniques can also be effective on other species . . . |
It is conceivable that they were fishing for kegs and caught the trout by accident.
Sounds like a redneck to me, hey ya’ll watch me do this, lol
Reminds me of a favorite “Far Side” cartoon:
2 guys in a boat, on a lake, fishing, when a mushroom cloud appears on the horizon.
One says to the other:
“You know what this means?”
“Screw the limit!”
Ya stand on the bank and throw beer cans at the fish
When you hit em you apologize and stick em in an ice chest.

It works because trout will scavange dead bait fish, and there's a lot of island camp sites next to deep water.
I've never tried this, but it seems like it would appeal to somebody who doesn't want to truck a lot of tackle into the deep woods and prefers time in a hammock to time thrashing the water with lures or watching a bobber.
We'll dance with the fairest of maidens
and sing them the bawdiest songs.
We'll tell them the wildest of stories.
We'll show them where kisses belong.
Again, again, we'll dance 'til their husbands come in.
'Til then, 'til then, we'll drink with the warmest of friends.
So, raise all your mugs to the heavens,
and drink to the health of all men.
We'll drink at the basest of barrooms,
imbibe at the finest of inns.
We'll taste at the smallest of taverns;
leave one, and another begin.
Again, again, we'll drink 'til we've no more to spend.
'Til then, 'til then, we'll drink with the drunkest of friends.
So, raise all your mugs to the heavens,
and drink to the health of all men.
Sounds wierd. I've caught many a catfish using a the old beer can trot line down on White river but I never heard of anyone fishing for trout this way. But then I never really fished for trout so I don't know much about them. I thought you had to get fly gear to trout fish and that, like bass fishing, looked too much like work to me. Forget that, put me on a mess of crappie with a minnow under a float and cold drink in my hand. Heaven has to be a bit like that.

An ad placed by Ireland’s tourist authority in a German news magazine described how the Irish catch fish:
The fisherman throws hunks of bread soaked in beer into the water, and the fish eat them. Then, all he has to do is scoop ut the intoxicated fish with a net.
My fishing days ended when I stopped being able to flip a line in a Canadian lake or creek between two lakes and pull out a 6 or 7 pound walleye with every other cast....that was in about 1947 and '48.
What river do they run in....and how many is it legal to have in your posession?
LOL
“DNR officials accuse the three men of illegally tying fishing lines to empty beer cans, then dragging the cans with the catch to shore. Authorities seized the trout, illegal fishing lines, rods and reels, beer and a van with Wisconsin license plates.”
But yet, the government has seen fit to cut off all salmon fishing for US citizens on the west coast. The irony is thick enough to wall up that entire border.
see post 36.
“Illegal immigrants not only harm the environment, but keep our law enforcement/DNR Agencies busy. “
Indeed. In the Pac. N.W, our sheriffs spend all their time busting armed Mexican drug cartels growing dope in our national parks and forests. It’s destroying the habitat. Homeland security says it isn’t their problem.

“These guys were illegals and had no idea what they were doing was illegal. “
Oh, please! Like they didn’t know crossing the border was illegal, or using your SS # was illegal or lying to get a job to get unlawful employment....
Please! Ignorance doesn’t excuse a US citizen, why should it an alien?
Build the fence!
