Because California, and Hollywood in particular, have been the punch line for so many jokes over the years, I suspect that people who don’t live out here assume we can’t possibly be that wacky. They don’t know the half of it...

Well I meant the politics...I agree with you otherwise.

Why is california like a bowl of granola?

Because after you remove all the fruits and nuts there’s nothing but flakes left.

To anyone still living(?) in california:

the United States is like a machine... when you shake it, all the loose nuts and bolts tend toward california. :)

“stand it?”

If you lived where I live...you wouldn’t “stand it”; you would LOVE IT!

Next time you’re in the area, give me shout and I’ll show you how we “stand it” in Orange County. ROFLMAO

Naw. Once you remove all of the fruits and nuts, you're left with a lot of good, solid Americans and some of the best land in the world.

“Well I meant the politics?”

And just where in the U.S.A is the politics any different...same POTUS, same U.S. Senate, same House of Representatives, everybody has the same lying politicians.
Like my father used to say, “If a politician’s mouth is moving, he’s lying!” LMAO

I am constantly amazed at the ignorance and yes, sophomoric attitude many FReepers have about California. Do we have our share of lefties? More so than most. Do they get most of the spotlight? When they own hollywood and the media in LA and San Francisco, that goes without saying.

Every state has it’s share of “fruits and nuts”, none are exempt.

But outside the coastal “beltway” in CA much of the state is fairly conservative, including the southern counties of Orange and San Diego. People forget that Jim Robinson lives in FRESNO CA and that is where Free Republic was created. LA was where the FIRST FR activism chapter was created. It was where the concept of the FR Network was generated. The March for Justice and the other original DC rallies that put FR on the map were planned there. If CA is the land of fruits and nuts and when you remove that all you have is flakes, how did it gestate FR?

Hmmm?

Anyway, I’m going to tweak a few beaks right now but that’s too bad. There are a lot of CA haters out there who get a weird satisfaction or thrill denigrating the state and it’s citizens. You can almost see the self saisfied gleam in their eyes and smug condescension when they post. Let me give you a clue.

Nobody in CA cares what you think. In fact, when your posts are read most Californians silently think to themselves “what an ignorant buffoon” and disregard your natterings as they would if they came from a child.

So my suggestion to those of you who get a “tingle” from making broad generalizations about all of CA based on the miscreants in hollywood or San Francisco...grow up.

Mind if I quote you next time someone makes a generalization about The South, Southerners and The War Between The States?

I feel your pain. I live in Illinois and the only thing keeping me here is an inability to find the real estate I want in Missouri.

Sadly, I think the quote by Goethe could very well apply to more than a few states...how about ALL of them.

Do you really think we have free speech in the current “POLITICALLY CORRECT” atmosphere? I mean, to the point that if one disagrees with anothers'stated view, there's no longer any tolerance for disagreement or dialog and discussion. If one does attempt that, be prepared to be called racist.(as in when a person voices alarm at the amount of illegals flooding into our country...one is called racist..missing the point entirely, perhaps on purpose.) I for one would be every bit as disgusted and frankly outraged, were the illegals lily white and from Europe. I don't give a rats’pitutee what the color is, or the nationality...if you're not here LEGALLY, you should be made to leave.PERIOD.

I find our gov. ability and penchant for picking and choosing what laws to enforce and which ones to wink at and turn their head just plain hypercritical, at best...at worst, it's criminal. We have laws on the books..ENFORCE THEM.

How about the blanket NO SMOKING laws? I'm no smoker, but what is wrong with personal choice...let business owners...restaurant and bar owners, choose whether or not to have a smoke free establishment...then let the customers choose where they go. I'm no business owner either, so I have “no dog in this fight”, but I'm just sick of the gov. poking their nose into every facet of our lives.

I keep wondering when the public will rise up and say ENOUGH. But the sad thought is..I fear it's way too late...we're well down that slippery slope that I for one, never dreamed we'd find our nation blindly sliding down.
