Obama's Changing Moral Equivalence

"I can no more disown him (Jeremiah Wright) than I can disown my white grandmother."

-- Barack Obama, Philadelphia, March 18

WASHINGTON -- Guess it's time to disown Granny, if Obama's famous Philadelphia "race" speech is to be believed. Of course, the speech was not just believed. It was hailed, celebrated, canonized as the greatest pronouncement on race in America since Lincoln at Cooper Union. A New York Times columnist said it "should be required reading in classrooms across the country." College seniors and first-graders, suggested the excitable Chris Matthews.

Apparently there's been a curriculum change. On Tuesday, the good senator begged to extend and revise his previous remarks on race. Moral equivalence between Grandma and Wright is now, as the Nixon administration used to say, inoperative. Poor Geraldine Ferraro, thrice lashed by Obama in Philadelphia as the white equivalent of Wright's raving racism, is now off the hook.

These equivalences having been revealed as the cheap rhetorical tricks they always were, Obama has now decided that the man he simply could not banish because he had become part of Obama himself is, mirabile dictu, surgically excised.

I think it is the other way around. Wright, in all his rabid splendor, helped Obama. Obama knew who Wright was...there can be no doubt of this...and accepoted the help and used it to climb into politicas there in Chicago and Illinois.

Now, when what his "Uncle", mentor, advisor, etc, ad-nausium really is comes out...Obama throws him right under the bus (and my guess is that it was done in a very calculating manner).

Wright at least is up front and in your face about it. Obama wants to hide his own beliefs behind a wane, false smile and a rock star image.

Obama is lieing in a bed of his own creation and deserves every bit of it and more.

A man called into Mark Levin’s show last night and said

“There isn’t a black person alive that hasn’t heard the same things that Rev Wright was saying, and the only people who complain about it are bigots and racists.”

I think a lot of us have come to realize this attitude.
Time to end affirmative action, welfare, and any other policies that disproportionately affect people by race.

Maybe a generation or two of “he who will not work, nor shall he eat” would be an attitude adjustment.

Be carefull what you ask for,”Why doesn't he just go away”? Looks like he did and I could care less if he was alive or dead.

Read post #25 again, I never said ,”Why doesn't he just go away”?

That means they didn’t need Wright’s agreement. They simply needed to give him the opportunity. He acted just as predicted and as you would predict.

So, whether he knew or didn’t know, he would still act the same.

He would have had “explaining” to do in any case.

Now, he can also say that he has renounced that man.

Or as Dr Eckleburg has recently reposted:

Despite the fact that Wright is just as big an enemy and a virulent anti-American...I have a measure of reluctant respect for him because he stands on what he is...

Obama is a charlatan that I have no doubt feels the same way...but wants to hide behind a smile so he can get into a position to stick the knife in all of our collective backs.

I respectfully disagree. The Wright episodes are a "dagger at the heart" (h/t to Sen. Schumer) of the Obama campaign as they are inextricably linked to honesty, character, and, to use one of Sen. Obama's favarite words, judgment.

First, honesty. Was he lying when he described Rev. Wright as a mentor, spritual advisor, father figure - or is he lying now? Was he lying when he said he could no more disown Rev. Wright than he could disown the black community or his grandmother - or is he lying now? Was he lying about his religious conversion when he found Rev. Wright and the TUCC - or is he lying now? Was he lying when he said that his chuche was not particularly controversial - or is he lying now? To be frank, it is obvious to all, except the wilfully blind, that he is being dishonest with his pastor, his congregation, the AMerican people, and himself.

Second, character. Questions of character are vitally important when it comes to electing a president as it suggests how he would react to some as yet unforeseen circumstance. They are even more important when faced with a tabula rasa like Sen. Obama, as the electorate has very few concrete actions from which to discern his essential character. Considering his 20+ year relationship with Rev. Wright, the following words spring to mind: gullible, insincere, duplicitous, manipulative, conspiratorial, blind. Are these traits presidential?

Third, and most damning to his current campaign, judgment. While the American people observed firsthand the essential ugliness of Rev. Wright's bombast immediately, it took Obama 20 years to come to the same conclusion, 20 years during which time he was married by Wright, had his children baptized by Wright, regularly attended services by Wright? This is the person who hopes to staff the next administration, manage foreign policy, and appoint judges?

Three words: Dead Man Walking

Those words are all appropriately applied to the Obama campaign, but I think that it is important to consider how it came to be that way. It is my opinion that Obama's potential was recognized and encouraged by leftists before he even transferred to Columbia, when Obama was first indoctrinated into leftist ideology. I think that the people at the Gemaliel foundation that he worked for after Columbia, found him, not the other way around. I think that the same thing happened with the Rev. Wright.

In that article that appeared in the International Herald Tribune a year ago, Barack Obama's search for faith, Wright tells how he explained to Obama that he would be more successful if he joined a church (the whole theory behind liberation theology is to work from within the church to organize politically), and that Trinity was a perfect place for APOSTATE MUSLIMS and former gang members. He wasn't trying to convert Obama to Chritianity, he was recruiting Obama to BLT. Wright also takes credit for teaching Obama how to motivate a crowd and tells how he sent Obama off to Harvard law with a full set of tapes of Wright's sermons to practice. Obama didn't take the vitriolic rhetoric of Wright seriously, no more literally than the BLT takes the Bible. He took it as political hyperbole, meant to motivate. Obama used Wright for a tie to the Black experience, but Wright was using Obama, too. Oh, one more thing, BLT does not approve of the use of the military by the US for any reason. Unless Obama denounces BLT, as well as Wright, he can never serve as Commander in Chief.

Entirely beside the point.

The issue is the primary campaign against hillary. He can’t afford to get buried in Indiana by Clinton.

He can’t afford to have the super-delegates scratching their heads. He needs to give THEM something to argue.

They can now argue: “Obama repudiated Wright.”

Actually, Wright is the one being honest in this matter, while BHO is acting the hypocrite for all to see.

I agree with you. It seems to me that Wright is poorly educated. He lacks basic knowledge and easily accepts urban myths as the truth. He is not open to criticism and is not intellectually motivated.

Much of what you say is true, but I still believe Obama is a red-diaper baby, spawn of an African Communist agitator and and an America-hating anthropologist...
