I realized that I wanted a woman to be the nominee much more than I thought. I wasn’t satisfied with Obama, who is not white. He’s still a guy, and I am sick of guys. Yet when I announce this, I am accused of being not only sexist but racist.

The thing about identity politics is that all issues are reduced to their lowest common denominator. Everything is dumbed down to the primal muck of human relations: "You're a ______, therefore a poopyhead!"

In identity politics, there are no more ideas, only the most dehumanizing labels. This is why Orwell set Animal Farm in a world of pigs, cows, and sheep.

Is wanting a woman to run the show selfish? Yes. I acknowledge that it is...apparently the theory of wanting one like oneself running the show is that that person understands one's values, needs, feelings, interests, etc. better and will thus do a more effective job in satisfying those wants than those who are dissimilar - but by extension it should be perfectly okay if men wanted a man as leader and whites wanted a white as leader - except that when men want to vote for men they're called "sexists" and when whites want to vote for whites they're called "racists' - don't hardly seem fair.......

when Gloria Steinem wrote a widely read opinion piece in the New York Times, you better believe my heart sang. But many women writers in the blogosphere whom I respect and admire called the essay sexist. And racist. And they said very hateful things about women like me who support Hillary Clinton, including that they are sexist and racist

I think in light of this woman’s screed here, Shannon should go to work instead. A nanny would probably do a better job at raising her kids. In fact, the more time she spends away from them, the better.
