Election latest: David Cameron inflicts worst drubbing in 40 years
The Conservatives made sweeping gains across the country early today as voters gave Gordon Brown a huge rebuff in his first electoral test as Prime Minister.
David Cameron chalked up important successes in the North, the Midlands and the South, securing his top target of Bury in Greater Manchester and taking control of Nuneaton and Bedworth, and Southampton.
The Conservatives also took seats in Labour strongholds of Sunderland and Wigan.
Labour suffered one of its worst electoral humiliations, with its national share of the vote dropping to 24 or 25 per cent. The Tory share was projected at 43 or 44 per cent, better than its most optimistic predictions.

But the question is with such a huge win in GB, will the Tories reverse decades of nanny government/socialism and FINALLY take notice of the HUGE Muslim problem they have or will they just continue with the previous failed policies?
Plenty here adore Toni “I am a socialist and I won’t retract the statement”
I don’t know about “adore,” but you make a good point. -bill
Don't forget FRance.
“I like Gordon Brown, hes pro-American. We cant ask more than that.”
You might not, but we sure can. Being pro-American is no great reccomendation. Most British politicians (and all Prime Ministers) are pro-American. They can’t afford not to be.
What exactly are “English” teeth?
Someone send it to Drudge, hurry!
“First Italy, now England.
Maybe there is hope for Europe...”
Maybe there is hope for US!
“The same thing applies in the US.It will have to get real bad here before conservatives attain power again.”
What conservatives? The Republican Party is pretty much indistinguishable from the Democrat Party and it was Bush ands Co.who have spent us into the current economic mess. There are no conservatives left in this country.
Seems to me the "conservatives" are doing an awfully good job conserving lives of "hanging on in quiet desperation". Weve heard it's "the English way", and daredn't really believe it, but now that it's actually being imposed (inflicted?) by Parliament, I suppose there's no use denying it any longer.
Who told you Brown is pro-American? Try pro-left America.

“You know Red Ken is popular when a Labour candidate is pushing a Tory to the wire even despite Labour being at 21 year low poll ratings nationally.”
BTW, from what I read on the BBC Online, it looks like Red Ken may still win based on “second preferences” (they have “instant run-off” voting in the London mayoral election, and liberals that voted for the other left-wing candidates probably listed Red Ken as a higher choice than the Tory Boris Johnson. I think that if Red Ken wins it will be less because of his local popularity than due to the fact that London voters are overwhelmingly liberal and the “instant run-off” prevents their vote from being split among several candidates.
Thanks.
Great stuff!
Silly Party...lol
How true.
