Let's Put this Freepathon to Rest
My own thoughts... | 05/01/08 | DoughtyOne

Posted on 05/01/2008 11:41:37 AM PDT by DoughtyOne

Hello Folks:

It's May 1st and I'd like to ask you for a little help. The current Freepathon started on April 1st. Here we are a month later and the total given or pledged is sputtering toward the finish line. I appreciate everyone's constributions to date. It's impressive that we come together like this to support the forum. Despite the great job that has been done, I still think we can do better.

We are still thousands from the goal. I'd like to put a big dent in the amount remaining to be covered. Will some of you please join me to end this today.

As soon as I hit the post key, I am going to contribute $100 more to the Freepathon. I would appreciate it if others would join me, and we could retire this Freepathon by late this afternoon.

Those who can, please join me with $100. Those who can't, how about $50 or $25.

We're not that far from the goal. A little over Fifty of us could end this thing. Are there fifty of you out there willing to join me?

How about it?

Thanks in advance to those who do join me. I appreciate it and I know Jim and John will also.

(&(*&)*&^3$^Q#$%#$$%$#% coffee maker.

It’s one of those Cuisinart Expensive Ones, too.

I know it has NOTHING to do with the hard water and the *cough* amount of coffee that’s consumed......And yes, folks, I’ve done the vinegar thing.

It mocks me.

NO one mocks me when I need coffee.......NO one. :)

I’ll say sorry if it will help. I would very much like this thon to be over so Jim can concentrate on getting well instead of worrying over the finances.

I’m not asking you to support the forum if you don’t think it’s a good idea. Please, if you don’t want to chip in, find another thread that interests you. I have no problem with you opting out.

On the other hand, your post to me clearly indicates one of the problems within freerepublic - I simply stated my concern relating to the level of expense and a possible remedy for the problem. You come back at me questioning my post, basically stating that I don’t think it’s a good idea to support the forum.

You may have donated yesterday.  Thus it would not be a good idea for you to do so today.  I don't care if you have another reason for not helping or just simply aren't moved to participate by contributing today.  It doesn't matter.  I'm not going to remember who you are and give you grief over it.

Logically, don’t you need to ‘convert’ those that have concerns versus pushing them away - is it not our right to question freerepublic practices prior to giving money? I’m fully aware that freerepublic has no obligation to respond to those concerns. You post to me just seems strange, actually more than passingly strange.

I am not here to defend the forum owner, or give anyone grief.   I am here to ask folks who are so inclined to help out.  I am not here to convince anyone they should.  That is up to them.

Why not provide a high level recap of income versus expense? I’d be more than willing to consider donating if I understood the numbers. Most posters here a big on numbers.

I am not going to try to justify anything on this thread.  I am not going to explain anything on this thread.  I am not trying to drum up support here from anyone other than folks who already know the forum's value and want to chip in.  If that doesn't apply to you, that's okay.  I'm sure you're a fine person and I'm not here to cast any dispersions in the direction of anyone who doesn't feel moved to help out.  I don't have a problem with you not joining in.  You take care.

Now, if you still feel compelled to find out what the funds are for, there are plenty of regular Freepathon threads that have information on them.  Here's another link to a list of them.

Thanks for the reminder. It’s $100 well spent.

Get well soon.

Actually I think it’s a Clintonectomy. Since he’s had problem with one of them, they wanted to be sure they were both removed.

There’s a more than 50/50 chance his Obomanoids will have to go as well. That’s frequently the case.

Servers cost money.

That's it for the most part. You wouldn't believe all the high tech equipment that Jim has installed. Had to keep adding servers over and over. Those things are not cheap. Besides, Jim and John run this behometh day and night 365. Don't they deserve some compensation for all the work they do? Jim is not a well man. He is disabled and Free Republic is his life's work. I happen to believe that this site has contributed more to the conservative movement in America than anything. It has managed to stay pretty much under the radar, probably because Jim does not accept ads. It's worth every penny we can dig up to contribute, and then some. I gave up a couple of magazine subscriptions for FR because I get a lot more good and use out of FR than a dozen magazines. I donate monthly and extra during Freepathons, and never miss it. I'm on a fixed income and retired. I hope everyone will donate something. Frankly, I think if they come to this site for news and conversation and don't contribute, they are freeloaders, moochers, deadbeats, not nice people. JMHO
