Let's Put this Freepathon to Rest
My own thoughts...

Hello Folks:
It's May 1st and I'd like to ask you for a little help. The current Freepathon started on April 1st. Here we are a month later and the total given or pledged is sputtering toward the finish line. I appreciate everyone's constributions to date. It's impressive that we come together like this to support the forum. Despite the great job that has been done, I still think we can do better.
We are still thousands from the goal. I'd like to put a big dent in the amount remaining to be covered. Will some of you please join me to end this today.
As soon as I hit the post key, I am going to contribute $100 more to the Freepathon. I would appreciate it if others would join me, and we could retire this Freepathon by late this afternoon.
Those who can, please join me with $100. Those who can't, how about $50 or $25.
We're not that far from the goal. A little over Fifty of us could end this thing. Are there fifty of you out there willing to join me?
How about it?
Thanks in advance to those who do join me. I appreciate it and I know Jim and John will also.

That type of attitude is counterproductive. Don't ask questions, just shut up and pay and if you don't like it then leave.
That's going to get the job done.
There were choices made this past year in who was welcomed and who wasn't on the basis of their choice in POTUS candidate. Cull the herd (and not just newbies) in such a way and donations drop.
Big surprise.
I find some value here so I kick in some $ every quarter and will continue to do so but as long as people are going to be banned for disagreeing with the site owners who oddly enough don't have a site without member donations, or screamed off the threads for not having the right conservative beliefs then cash flow is going to suffer.
And yes, I kicked in a few more bucks for the right to speak my piece.

The big problem is the legal threat from users posting copywrited material. Those users don't have legal exposure, but JimRob and FR are devastatingly exposed to it. They receive constant "cease and desist" warnings over the posting of such material, inadvertent or otherwise. It's been an ongoing battle to constantly monitor content in order to prevent further litigation. Actual, that 'problem' as a reason for costs makes no sense, none at all. Freerepublic is on top of copywrited material, so in no way could it be shown that there is a pattern of allowing copyrighted material to be displayed.
I wonder about the annual costs of $288,000 with virtually no regulatory related costs involved.
I visit another site that runs advertisements and if one wants that to stop, a fee in charged. I'm thinking that that is a fair solution. I'm sure the advertisement would cover 'conservative' leaning stuff, so no big deal.

LOL. Well I was just about to buy my new sports car but then I decided to sacrifice that and kick in $50 more to FR. :^) This is what I’m giving up for FR:

Been a $/day club member for a long time...... be nice if others would join me. The secret benefits are out of this world, but I can’t tell what they are or they’ll ban me.

I didn't ask anyone to leave. I merely said that if folks didn't want to join in they didn't have to. "Move on" from this thread, not the forum.
That's going to get the job done.
Yes, it most likely will. I'm not giving a single person a hard time for not joining in. I have merely asked folks to join in and participate, or move off this thread rather than carp about problems.
There were choices made this past year in who was welcomed and who wasn't on the basis of their choice in POTUS candidate. Cull the herd (and not just newbies) in such a way and donations drop.
Okay, but who is forcing you to do anything on this thread? If you do want to help, do so. If you don't, that's fine too.
Big surprise.
You're welcome to you opinion. I'm not sure why you think you need to post it here though. Folks here either want to help out of don't want to help out. They are free to do what they want to. Is there a real need for folks to come here and carp about their personal greviences?
I find some value here so I kick in some $ every quarter and will continue to do so but as long as people are going to be banned for disagreeing with the site owners who oddly enough don't have a site without member donations, or screamed off the threads for not having the right conservative beliefs then cash flow is going to suffer.
Help out or don't. That's your business. I'm not here to give you grief over what you choose to do.
And yes, I kicked in a few more bucks for the right to speak my piece.
This could be a positive thread with our without your financial support. I appreciate the financial support, but I don't understand the need to go so negative.

I’m not asking you to support the forum if you don’t think it’s a good idea. Please, if you don’t want to chip in, find another thread that interests you. I have no problem with you opting out.
