Federal grand jury indicts polygamous sect leader for allegedly fleeing prosecution
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) A federal grand jury indicted the leader of a polygamous sect Wednesday, accusing him of fleeing to avoid prosecution on Utah sex charges.
The one-count indictment covers a five-month period in 2006, although Warren Jeffs was believed to be on the run for a longer stretch before his arrest in August during a traffic stop near Las Vegas.
Jeffs also faces trial in southern Utah in April on charges of rape as an accomplice for his alleged role in the ceremonial marriage of a teenage girl to an older cousin. In Arizona, he faces felony sex charges in Mohave County, Ariz. for his alleged role in arranging underage marriages for some of his followers.

To help in the search for Jeffs, federal prosecutors filed an arrest warrant against him in April 2006.
Federal charges tied to such warrants typically are dropped once a suspect is caught and transferred to state authorities. But with Jeffs, "we felt like if there were ever a time to pursue a defendant ... this was it," said Melodie Rydalch, spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman.
The federal charge carries a maximum punishment of five years in federal prison.
Dated today.
Good luck!
Notice the ScreenName? ;^)
Old Johnathan Winters line (or was it Red Skelton, I can’t quite recall): while among buxom beauties rolling him along on a hospital gourney, “Better living through Chemistry.”
I see that Dad hasn’t changed out of his Good Humor uniform yet...
You should watch Big Love...the similarities to the FLDS cult are interesting.
Been busy baptizin' folks in the backyard swimmin' pool.
People are startin' to talk.
I looked and looked for a date and that was the only one I saw. If it’s really important maybe the mod can change the date.
And that's good.....why?
According to this Warren’s daddy, Rulon Jeffs, wanted to stop underage marriages:
Wyler said he was at a meeting of FLDS leaders in the ‘90s at which Jeffs’ father, Rulon Jeffs, then the church leader, urged the church to take a proposed deal from the state to abandon under-age marriages in exchange for amnesty for any past crimes involving under-age marriages.
Warren Jeffs, who soon took control of the sect, even before his father died, rejected the deal and defiantly went on a spree of performing under-age marriages, Wyler said.
Wyler said rape follows naturally in some cases where girls as young as 13 or 14 are married to older men. “I know of cases in this town where underage girls were married to a guy and she didn’t want to do anything and he forced himself on her. It’s not always that way. But that’s going to happen anyplace you have underage marriages,” said Wyler.
Wyler said that while he was in the church, he was bothered most by the underage marriages and, even worse, underage marriages by men to their stepdaughters.

Abusers are cowards...and demand to be protected...
Hopefully there's no child rape going on!
Hopefully, they string up the perps! It’s against the law in Texas....for the last couple years anyway.
Uhhh...marriage of a 14-year-old to the aged "prophet"...she ran.
Yeow! Statutory rape on HBO? I can’t believe it! I didn’t realize you were a fan of Big Love. I’ve never watched it myself.
Are you allowed to watch R rated shows, BTW? "The Girls Next Door" has an R rating too.
As a rule, I don’t watch R rated movies. The only exceptions so far are The Passion of the Christ and The Patriot. Perhaps not too suprising for a FReeper. As for an R rating for sexual content, no exceptions!
Well, your continual posting of the Hefner household might lead others to wonder if you are a fan of "The Girls Next Door". Those pictures caused me to make a search where I discovered the show. It sounds pretty rank.
