Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) today praised Sen. Barack Obama for denouncing his former pastor, but warned that Republicans will use the association to try to "Swift Boat" the Illinois senator if he becomes the Democratic presidential nominee this fall.
Bayh, who is supporting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for president, said he hoped other issues -- the economy, gasoline prices, health care and the cost of college -- will drive the decisions of most voters in Tuesday's Indiana primary. Obama has struggled in other states to win the votes of white, working class voters, and they could be the deciding vote next Tuesday.
Noting that even Obama has called the controversy of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright "a legitimate issue," Bayh said that in a presidential race, those voters will take more than the economy into their decision making before the primary.
"You're running for president and people want to get a sense of who you are, and when you're new to the public stage you're a little more susceptible to having the canvas painted in by your political opponents," Bayh said during an interview for the video program "PostTalk" on washingtonpost.com.
Bayh said neither he nor Clinton intended to inject the Wright controversy into the primary, but he is worried that Republicans will do so in a general election. "I'm sure the far right will be out there trying to do the whole Swift Boat thing and that sort of thing. But I hope people will focus on the most substantive issues and I think the vast majority of them will.

To reveal the truth about a lying democrRat politician.
Why shouldn't the truth be told?
They do love their cliches don’t they.
Looks like the Rev is doing an excellent job of sinking Obama....no need to swiftboat(dig up the facts and tell the truth) here.
Doubly appropriate because it involves an anti American dem, just like the original swiftboating.
A source close to the Wright ministry is also talking. Here's what that source said in the New York Post today:
The source noted that the roots of Wright's disillusionment with Obama began last year after the Illinois senator unexpectedly yanked him from participating in the public announcement of his presidential campaign.Whole lot of chickens...coming home to roost.
"That's why Jeremiah revealed . . . that he had actually been at the [announcement] hotel and prayed privately with the Obama family before the official declaration," the source told The Post.
"Rev. Wright, as well as other senior members of his church, believe that Obama has betrayed over 20 years of their supposed friendship."
Obama further angered Wright by trying to distance himself from the pastor ever since videos were made public earlier this year of the preacher alleging that America brought 9/11 upon itself and that people should say "God damn America," not "God bless America."
The source added, "After 20 years of loving Barack like he is one of their own, after he was embraced by this congregation as a brother in Christ, after his pastor was a father figure to him and gave him credibility in a city he had not grown up in and in a black community that was suspect of someone from Hawaii and Harvard, he thanks him by not allowing him to speak publicly at his announcement last year?
"A lot of people in the church believe they were there for this man when no one else was, and a lot of people don't believe it any more when Obama claims he loves the man who did so much for him," the source added.
Not the least of which is Obama's character (because Wright is saying that Obama did know about exactly who Wright was and therfore Obama lied to us all)...and also Obama's judgement in this whole matter and in the matter of Ayers, Rezko, etc.
THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH - BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY AND OBAMA'S CHURCH
THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH - OBAMA'S CIRCLE OF FRIENDS AND SUPPORT
THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH - BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA
The best spent political contribution that I have made in my entire life was the $100 I sent to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. I only wish that I had sent every dime that I have ever contributed to Republican candidates to the swifties instead.
Not just Wright, but Ayers and Rezko too. It won’t be a Swift “Boat”, Bayh, there will be an entire Swift “Armada”.
It looks like Senator B. (whose middle name must NEVER be spoken) is doing a fine job of "Swiftboating" himself!!!
Obama is being speechwrighted.
What a great and powerful force the Swiftees were and are. To have that much control over democraps is amazing.
He says that like he thinks that’s a bad thing.
Hey, Bubba, you nailed that definition, but Bayh is trying to warn the superdelegates....*electibility*...
Bayh is a little slow isn’t he?
Bayh is hard core pro-Hillary. This is a subliminal “Obama can’t be elected” message.
But Wright doesn’t want Obama elected. He would rake it in more if McCain is elected.
