Hispanic congressmen demand corporate action against CNN host[Lou Dobbs]
The Guardian ^ | 28 Apr 2008 | Elana Schor

The anti-immigration views of CNN host Lou Dobbs have made him a darling in the ratings but a nemesis among US Latinos, whose frustration has risen to the Washington corridors of power.

After their requests for a meeting with the chief executive of CNN's parent company were rebuffed, Latino members of Congress condemned the TV network for failing to recognise the "potentially dangerous" consequences of Dobbs's "divisive commentary".

Dobbs has become a sensation thanks to his populist outbursts against undocumented immigrants, whom he calls "aliens" and accuses of "invading" America to steal jobs.

The TV host also has targeted the Democratic presidential candidates, naming one segment "Hillary's hypocrisy" and describing Barack Obama's endorsement by Latino governor and former Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson as "pandering to ethnocentric special interests".

Joe Baca, the chairman of the congressional Hispanic caucus, told the Guardian that CNN's parent company should be held accountable for the content of programmes the network airs.

"Words matter and words have power. One-sided rhetoric can lead other programs to cite opinions as fact and adopt polarising word choices as the standard," Baca, whose caucus is influential within the Democratic party, said.

Am I missing something, or is it not singularly instructive that the offended congress”man” had to vent his displeasure in a British newspaper???

This is one area where I agree with Dobbs.

Time to reclaim the country, IMO...

Anyone who would silence someone who has opinions they find offensive and disagreeable, should be considered a traitor for trying to undermine the First Amendment. Anyone who does so is not fit to serve this country in any capacity.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

No law, but they can still lean on CNN like some Mafia Dons.

"Nice network you have here. It would be a shame if something "happened" to it."

Translation: Journalists and television commentators should be obsequious--uh, sensitive--and choose such inoffensive terms as "undocumented workers" rather than the unadorned illegal aliens.

Got it.

..HISPANIC?...

Why not, makes perfect sense to me (another Hispanic). I mean just look what the illegals do every day in our country ILLEGALLY!... Look at the support they get...

Please don't think these people are stupid. They understand that if the U.S. REALLY wanted to stop illegal Immigration they would do it an instant. So if they don't see that determination in our government - especially when our PRESIDENTE is sending the opposite message, they interpret it as being given the "wink."

They know that politically this has become a "hot potato," but they also understand that there are PLENTY of people who wants them.

That is why I never blame them... but I blame our government first.

What the hell do the leftists who run the Guardian care about Mexicans sneaking illegally over our borders? Maybe they should do something to help their own country, if indeed they were capable of it.

So how do you say STFU in Mehican?

Some folks think the only opinions which are “allowed” are the ones they agree with.

Might work that way in Mehico ...if thats what you want, go there.

“Latino members of Congress”

Money tainted tools of the wage depression lobby, working hard for amnesties that will disproportionately harm the economics of Latino American citizens.

The Guardian? No bias in this "objective" reporting! What a propaganda rag...Is this "paper" an arm of the globalist movement?

What about the First Amendment? This so called representative of the people needs to understand that HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO IMPINGE ON SOMEONE FREE SPEECH. He is just a Stalinist.

The only way these new age ‘latino’ leaders will ever be happy is if we just give them everything....our right to free speech, security, education, health care, our sovereignty.....they’re doing the best they can to destroy it all. They seem to think they’re the only ones entitled to any thing. I think it’s racism in it’s worst form. They don’t think the rest of us are pure enough to have the rights they should have.

I don’t care if you like Lou Dobbs or not, raise a stink about this nonsense!
