Obama's Wright Turn
American Thinker ^ | 4/30/08 | Richard Baehr

Posted on 04/30/2008 12:07:28 AM PDT by Dawnsblood

Will Obama's pivot work politically? If he earns a split on May 6th, winning North Carolina, and losing Indiana, he will have avoided a political freefall. North Carolina is a state with a 21% African American population, and black voters make up about a third of Democratic Party primary voters. Given that Obama has been winning 90% of the vote among blacks, he would need but 30% of the white vote to win a narrow victory in North Carolina.

It is likely that Obama's team saw a sharp drop-off in white support in North Carolina with the latest Wright feeding frenzy the last few days. While most pundits have been focusing on the perceived tight race in Indiana, and assumed North Carolina was a lock for Obama, the Clinton team has been spending more money on media in North Carolina the last week than in Indiana, and sent Bill Clinton down to work the white rural areas, the same kinds of places where he helped deliver huge margins for Hillary in Pennsylvania.

Then came word that popular Governor Michael Easley was backing Clinton. So suddenly the Clintons are smelling the possibility of a sweep, including an upset in North Carolina, or at the least a very close finish there. These results would put more doubts in the minds of the nearly 300 super delegates who remain uncommitted that the Obama campaign is a train wreck waiting to happen in the general election.

From time to time I get gleeful at the Clinton/Obama infighting.

Then I remember that it benefits McCain and I get all depressed.

Bus, minus wheels, is hurtling over the cliff and down the hill.

Thank you, Reverend Wright.

Listening Obama mumble and stumble his way verbally on this topic, makes him seem far less intelligent than his prepared and rehearsed speeches.

He is not really very impressive, when you unwrap the package. He lack experience, he is the most liberal member of the Senate, and he has demostrated horrific judgement picking his associates (Wright and the aging hippie terrorist college professor).

But I hope the dems pick him, and then I hope McCain picks him apart, with the facts.

McCain is better for America than any viable alternative.

Does the unasked question of the week become: Why didn't Obama see a sharp drop-off in black support with the latest Wright feeding frenzy of the last few days?

Yep.
The Democrats all but declared Obama the winner.
All the party elites have already closed ranks around him.
It’s too late for them to turn back now.

It is going to be a monumental disaster at the convention.
Both candidates have hardened supporters and a valid claim to the party’s nomination.
There will be battle royale for it on the convention floor.
This is shaping up to be the biggest political train-wreck in modern history.
The Democrats cannot win in November with the kind of disarray they are in.
I cannot see either candidate or their supporters backing down until the bloody end.
It will be utter Chaos.

Isn’t it obvious blacks are voting for him strictly due to the color of his skin and I thought Martin Luther King Jr had accomplished something with all that I have a dream speech. Post racial candidates would not garner 90 percent support of blacks Soon those who are voting for McCain will be called racists that are not voting for Obama strictly due to his skin color....
What a world, What a world.

It benefits AMERICA. Imagine a world where African Americans hate the Democrat party, the Media hates The Clintons, and in order to get anything done, Hillary has to appeal to conservatives.

That's a mighty big "if", for a guy that sold out the black community for the approval of whitey.

At least 50% of those African Americans are women, and they're perfectly free to vote for Hillary and still maintain their identity politics. Plus, Obama is bound to lose some of the Broken Glass voters.

Don't be so sure of that. The Dem convention isn't until August. A lot can happen before then.

As more is revealed about Obama, both pledged delegates and superdelegates will abandon him. The party faithful will then rally behind the Clintons.

When Obama realizes that his chances of winning the presidency are nil, he will "bow out" gracefully and throw his support behind Hillary.

Obama will "play nice for the good of the party" and ask his supporters to do the same. Blacks will dutifully heed the call of their Democratic masters, as they have always done, unaware that they have been hoodwinked yet again.

That's just one scenario.

Obama doesn't have the guts to start a fight at the Dem convention. Without his leadership, the Blacks have nowhere to go.

I disagree.
Obama is the Indonesian Candidate.
He is on a mission from the radical left to take over the Democrat party.
He has too much support to walk away.
His supporters won’t walk away from him.
Obama may not fight directly, but he will sit back as his leftist foot-soldiers do it for him.

If Hillary takes the nomination from Obama, there will be riots inside and outside of the Pepsi Center in Denver.
Rest assured of that.

Nothing that could come out about Obama will make the radical left abandon him.
It will only make them embrace him more.
They will say he is being “swift-boated.”

Neither candidate is going to leave the race so long as they are still standing.

I get the mental imagine of Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown. The British marched through the cheering Americans while playing "The world turned upside down" (although from current writings, no one's really sure they played that.)

I'm pretty sure the caption's accurate, though. ; )

There is no record anywhere to be found that Obama was ever baptized into the Christian faith. His children were baptized by Wright, and Wright married him, but Obama himself was not baptized into a Christian Church. All Christians are baptized. Why hasn’t Obama been, I ask you? Because to do so would be against the Muslim religion, in fact some Muslims would have him killed if he switched to Christianity which is a no no. I posted this comment below on another thread:

Something smells rotten in the Hood. Here’s my take on it. I think Obama and Wright are as thick as thieves, I think they are in total cahoots. I think everything that has happened in the past week has been planned and masterminded between Obama and Wright and perhaps one or two other key players on Obama’s campaign staff. I think everything has been coordinated.

Preacher Wright comes out and does his round of inflammatory speeches at the NAACP, and the Nat’l Press Club, and in his Bill Moyers interview. Funny that these three are all clustered within days of each other, all at once. As Obama blew his first chance at refuting Wright for his behavior for the last 20 years, both of them thinking the whole issue would die down, Obama needed a second bite of the apple. A second chance to condemn the Reverend Wright. Hence the setup. Wright does his radical religious/political rap thing three times, and Obama then says he’s finally had enough and condemns and refutes and sort of disowns (however if you listen to Obama’s words, he really doesn’t) Preacher Wright.

Now it looks as if the two of them are at great odds and no longer like each other, right? Wrong, in the sense that this was the desired end result, to make it look like they are now at odds. Mission accomplished. Obama is now off the hook. Obama even makes sure he has an out in the very careful, slow speaking manner with which he refuted his mentor. He says Wright may do more of the same kind of speech, but he, Obama, won’t be responsible for it as he can’t do anything to stop Wright, and has now disowned Wright anyhow. Isn’t this Machiavellian? Isn’t this fun?

Now for the proof of my thinking. Preacher Wright and Obama have known each other for 20 years, both in and out of the church pew. Obama went on Louis Farrakhan’s million man march. Obama named his book after a phrase used by Rev. Wright, “The Audacity of Hope”. They are very close. Obama knows exactly where Wright is coming from, both theologically and politically. And (here’s the kicker) vice versa. Wright knows everything about Obama too. He knows how Obama really thinks politically, after all Preacher Wright groomed him for the last 20 years, or perhaps indoctrinated would be a better word. Wright knows what Obama has said to him over the years, has done for and with him over the last 20 years, and has the goods on Obama big time. Wright could blast Obama into space and out of the presidential race on a politically dirty rocket in a nanosecond. Wright probably knows more about Obama’s inner workings, shady deals back in Chicago, connections to Obama’s political benefactor Tony Rezko now up on influence peddling and other charges back in Chicago, and may have been in on some of those deals himself. Wright could take Obama down faster than greased lightening if he wanted to. But he won’t. Because they are working in tandem. They are still joined at the hip, and what we are seeing this past week is all a charade, a Potemkin village, smokey (until that became un-PC) backroom dealings to get Obama out of hot water in the political short and long run for his relationship with Wright.

Mark my words here; my political antennae are waving in the breeze. And to top it off (I believe this is coming out of Obama’s camp too), the blogs are buzzing around that somehow Preacher Wright and Hillary Clinton are working behind the scenes to undermine Obama, and that Hillary’s camp was somehow involved in setting up financially some of what Wright was up to this past week. I think a whisper campaign of “it’s all Hillary’s fault that this is happening” has been let loose on the internet to shift the blame for Wright’s actions of late on her. How convenient. Obama isn’t behind this, why it’s Hillary. And the MSM are swallowing it whole. The MSM in general hate Hillary and will blame anything and everything on her. They will believe anything about her. Never mind, as I stated before, that Wright/Obama have a 20 year relationship, and that Wright could bring Obama down so fast his head would spin with what Wright knows about Obama and how he really thinks. Its Hillary and her henchmen to blame.

Obama and Wright must be laughing up their sleeves at how a naive and lazy press that is on Obama’s side anyhow in this race, will swallow this. Tell me, does anyone really think that Wright and Hillary got together to “get Obama”? Do you not think that Wright wants Obama in the White House where Wright can have all sorts of influence on his protege? That Wright wants to be kingpin at the National Prayer Breakfasts? That he wants all that access to grants or funding for his church causes? That he wants to push his own peculiar brand of church politics? His Black Liberation Theology? You better believe he wants Obama in as President. They both just have to get over this little speed bump of whether Obama secretly thinks just like Wright does, and is really a divider disguising himself as a uniter, fooling us all. Preacher Wright knows exactly where Obama is coming from. If he blows the whistle on Obama publicly on what he knows, then I am wrong. If Wright doesn’t, well, then draw your own conclusions. I’ve drawn mine.

See, you have to keep in mind, Obama believes he is the (islamic) Messiah.
He believes his can pied piper his way right into the White House.
He believes there is no sticky situation he can’t talk his way out of.

He also believes this is a Democrat year, and he wants to be that Democrat.
He knows the Obama phenomenon is fading, and it will never return.
If it is to ever happen for him, the time is now.
He talks about “the fierce urgency of now.”
He says “we are the change we have been waiting for.”
Obama believes this is his moment.
He undermines the very core of his message if he gives up this battle.
It is the fierce urgency of NOW, not the fierce urgency of 4 to 8 years from now.

Obama will fight on, because it pays for him to do so.
He is the anointed one. It is his for the taking.
So if he wins, then he wins.
And if the Party takes it from him, then he and his supporters are owed something, something big.
Something like Majority Leader in the Senate.
If he drops out, then he gets nothing.

Of course the superdelegates also know this.
They know that a lot of them have already stabbed the Clintons in the back.
Just about the entire Democrat leadership has.
If Hillary becomes the nominee, then there will be Stalinist purges.
It’s the Party Leaders whose heads are on the line, and that is more important to them than having a Democrat win the presidential election.
This is their very political lives on the line.
They will let their party lose an election to save that.

The Party elites also understand that they cannot afford the long-term damage to the Party if they overturn the will of the voters, and rob the black candidate of his rightful victory. And Harry Reid isn’t going to want to give up his job in order to appease disgruntled Obama supporters.

Besides, the Democrats have learned that there is a lot more money in it for their candidates when they don’t hold the White House.

Interesting. Where are you getting your information from?

If you're right, that would be a dream come true for conservatives.

We could stand by and let the Dems duke it out.

I still don't think Obama will fight. He is too conciliatory.

I predict that Obama will be in Hillary's camp by July.

Notice how he is already distancing himself from the extremist Rev. Wright in order to pander to "moderates" in the party. He can't win the Dem nomination with the far-leftist vote alone.

And without Barack's leadership, who will the far-leftists fight for?

We both have interesting theories about what will happen.

I hope you're right. I would love nothing better than to see the Dems still infighting in August and for Obama to dispose of the Beast once and for all.

I doubt Obama has the **'s to fight this out, even though many of his supporters do. His days are numbered. Hillary, on the other hand, will never quit until she has taken the White House by force.

Obama won’t be in Hillary’s camp.
Way too much bad blood.
Obama is in it for himself.

Keep in mind, Hillary was supposed to be inevitable.
She was supposed to waltz to the nomination with a united party.
Obama has made that impossible for her.
If he was about “the good of the party” then he would have never run against her.
He won 11 contests in a row. He leads in delegates, and will continue to lead in delegates.
He has no reason to drop out.
As far as he is concerned (and the media, and the Democrat elite), he has already won. All he has to do is stand his ground.
He believes Reverend Wright will pass, that the media will inoculate him.
He believes he can weather the storm, the Weather Man told him so.

He believes he is the Golden Child.
What Chosen One gives up his struggle?
What Martyr gives up his Jihad?

For Obama, being the First Black Presidential Candidate is more important than being the First Black President.

He doesn’t want to go down in history as Jesse Jackson.
He has to actually win the nomination to count.

For Obama, being the First Black Presidential Candidate is more important than being the First Black President.

I see Hillary as the one willing to sacrifice the Democratic party for her own selfish ambitions. She will never give in, even if it means destroying everyone else in her wake.

If, heaven forbid, Hillary gains the upper hand and Barack starts losing support of "his" delegates during the summer, he will yield and let Hillary have the nomination. If he can't be the first Black nominee, Obama would prefer to go down as the "uniter" of the party, even if that means conceding to the Clintons.

Make no mistake - Wright and Obama are playing this brilliantly - I firmly believe Wright went out of his way over the past week to give Obama something to which he can loudly say "I do not agree with Wright". Wright said this last year, that at some point Obama would have to break with him, and he went out of his way to give Obama something to publicly break with him.

Unlike Hillary who is a bumbling idiot and whose campaign is lurching along, counting on pissed off middle aged women and people who remember the Clinton years with stars in their eyes, just about everything Obama has done has been orchestrated, and Wright over the past few days plays firmly into that.
