It came to me while I was having dinner with Doris Day. No, not that Doris Day. The Doris Day who is married to Col. Bud Day, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, fighter pilot, Vietnam POW and roommate of John McCain at the Hanoi Hilton.
As we ate near the Days' home in Florida recently, I heard things about Sen. McCain that were deeply moving and politically troubling. Moving because they told me things about him the American people need to know. And troubling because it is clear that Mr. McCain is one of the most private individuals to run for president in history.
When it comes to choosing a president, the American people want to know more about a candidate than policy positions. They want to know about character, the values ingrained in his heart. For Mr. McCain, that means they will want to know more about him personally than he has been willing to reveal.
Mr. Day relayed to me one of the stories Americans should hear. It involves what happened to him after escaping from a North Vietnamese prison during the war. When he was recaptured, a Vietnamese captor broke his arm and said, "I told you I would make you a cripple."

Seriously, this is compelling stuff. I only know McCain's record, not some of the stuff here.
As for "Her Cankleness" and "Obamalamadingdong-whose middle name shall not be spoken"...... not so much.
I don’t know what BDS is.
I’m aware it’s not about me, but some of y’all (you are not one of them) are making it about the McCain supporters than about McCain. That’s why I feel a need to note that I was not a McCain guy until he was pretty much already the nomminee.
Dead on, my man.
You are right.
“War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.”

McCain is also against drilling in ANWAR.

Thanks.
I am sending McCain more money/ammo as will my friends.
Damn sad when money buys any public office.
What item or items on that list are inaccurate?
I don’t understand your post to me.
Was it supposed to be to someone else?
You left out the Keating 5 scandal.
Seven years ago FReepers were so outraged at McCain they were involved in a recall effort to get him out of the senate. Now FReepers are backing him for president. I never thought I’d see it happen.
And I'll just bet you speak from personal experience, right slick?
And you’d lose that bet. But then you must be used to being a loser by now.
That’s about the size of it.
I don't need Karl Rove to tell me who to vote for or build 'feel-good' stories about McCain.
Whatever McCain was.....I only know him as someone who cared so little for the 'rule of law' that he was ready & more than willing to give away our precious sovereignty to millions of illegals
..he was promised something in return, I assure you...
..and I think it was the Presidency.
He rose like the proverbial phoenix after July.....
..no one does that with those negative numbers unless the 'powers that be' are pushing him from behind.
excellent post, 82.....my thoughts exactly!
Thank you, Karl Rove for telling me about these private, personal, character revealing events concerning John McCain.
He who is faithful in little is faithful in much.
Good story but I don’t like his politics. I have no choice of course if a vote for McCain is a vote against Clinton or Obama. I’m still struggling with this.
