Wright Raising Questions About Obama's Electability
ABC News ^ | April 29, 2008 | JAKE TAPPER

Pressure Mounts on Obama After Reverend's Reappearance --

It's crunch time on the campaign trail, and candidates can't afford any mistakes or for any controversial friends to suddenly reappear. Will the Rev. Jeremiah Wright drag the Illinois senator's campaign down?

Some speculate the re-emergence of Sen. Barack Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is turning off white voters. Democratic sources tell ABC News that Wright is unquestionably worrying superdelegates about Obama's electability.

On Monday at the National Press Club, Wright was defiant, embracing some of the most controversial items he has said.

"Jesus said, You cannot do terrorism on other people and not expect it to come back on you," Wright said, defending his controversial sermon in which he said Sept. 11, 2001, was an example of chickens coming home to roost, in Malcolm X's memorable phrase. "Those are biblical principles, not Jeremiah Wright 'bombastic' principles."

On "Good Morning America" today, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich suggested the controversial former pastor may be deliberately trying to hurt the Illinois senator.

Saying that Wright "went out of his way to weaken Obama" during Monday's address at the National Press Club, Gingrich told Barbara Walters, "I think Rev. Wright has a greater interest in his self-importance."

Gingrich described Wright as "hard-line anti-American," and said "if Rev. Wright continues to talk that the burden that Sen. Obama carries becomes bigger and bigger. "

Republicans in Mississippi and North Carolina have cut TV ads using Wright against Democrats who have endorsed Obama, guilty by association with a different association.

In an interview with WTVD-TV in North Carolina, Monday, Obama said, "I think the average North Carolinian's gonna say that doesn't make much sense. And, you know, I think it's the old kind of politics."

What makes it so damaging for Obama is Obama's refusal to repudiate and disown Wright. When you don't do that, it raises questions as to what your real views are about that person. The more Jeremiah Wright appears in public, the more it will remind people about Obama's own questionable judgment.

Get it thru your heads.....THE UNAMERICAN DEMOCRAT PARTY is an enemy of the United States of America.

And any man or women in this enemy movement should be treated as such.

Hussein Obama is NO victim of Wright or Clinton, they are all on the same page vying for leader of their anti-American radical Democrat Party, they are all tribes who want control of our treasury and foreign policy.

How can Hillary win the nomination? This is a serious question. Can you show me how?

Easy. She rides to victory in the remaining states as Obama is seriously wounded right now. Next, she gets Florida delegates seated at the convention (Clintonites control the credentials committee), since both candidates were actually on the ballot. They come to a compromise on Michigan, maybe a 50-50 split. Then, enough super delegates put her over the top. With Florida and Michigan, she is nearly dead even with him as it is and will probably pass him in total votes after the remaining primaries. It won't be seen as "stolen", it will be seen as a comeback win.

How can Hillary win the nomination?

If you look at the electoral votes for the states Hillary has won, she is far ahead of Obama. If you count the votes in Florida and Michigan, she is ahead in the popular vote.

I think she can easily make the case that she should be the nominee.

"How can Hillary win the nomination?"

A.) By revealing to the superdelegates and party bosses the thick dossiers full of dirt the Clintons no doubt have on them.

B.) For those who don't play ball, there's always the Fort Marcy Park option, which will be threatened...."Hey, Mr So-and-So...remember Vince, Web, and Ron?"

C.) By somehow getting the Florida and Michigan delegations seated as is.

Never underestimate the treachery if the Clintons....

Alas, it looks like the stupid Republicans helped keep Hillary alive

Is this conjecture, or do you have some sort of stats to show how many Republicans switched parties to vote for Hillary? I seriously doubt it was many.

It already is happening...IMHO, it is just a matter of how bad will it get? They are at each other’s throats and lots of negativity is being generated amongst their “coalition” and lots of critical negative issues are being revealed. The longer it goes on, the worse it will get for them.

I heard a caller nail it on either Beck or Rush yesterday.

If Obama wins the Presidency, the race-baiters like Wright won’t have anything to complain about, their whole raison d’etre (and their meal ticket)will be gone. Wright is a self-serving narcissist and I have to say that this theory makes some sense (as if anything makes a lot of sense in this election season).

this is so infuriating...if Rush hadn’t butted in, Obama would have been the official candidate facing all of this...now..there is a distinct possibility he will take the VP slot for the sake of the party, And that, my friends, is an unbeatable ticket. If this happens, we will have Rush to blame.

What an idiot, could you be any dumber? All of you Rush bashers are just too stupid for words. Rush didn't do this, Obama has caused himself to tank. Do you think Rush invented Wright? Do you think Rush invented all of Obama's idiotic "values"? Just what do you think Rush did to make Obama and Wright so stupid as to actually allow their hate filled rhetoric to become public knowledge? Blaming Rush is a liberal trait and I assume anyone bashing him is liberal and should actually be on another forum, of course you(liberals) are all welcome here because you might learn something and convert over to conservatism.

Weren’t conventions at one time the place in which the candidate for President was chosen, rather than the primaries?

“Black Liberation Theology”

“THEOLOGY” Really?? You mean like a REAL theology where people go to worship in REAL churches to share fellowship and NOT to foment hate and discord???? Like where centuries of scholarship and faith have produced bona fide men of the cloth, legions of Christian believers who share wholesome and positive humanitarian views????

Face it… this Wright clown might as well be running a madras.

First, remove any idea that the super-delegates will push her over the top. The riots and violence that would result from a black man having the nomination stolen from him would destroy the Democrat party. In order for Clinton to win the nomination, she would have to have more “elected” delegates than Obama. Period.

Now, let’s look at the numbers. Obama has 1,491 “elected” delgates. Clinton has 1,332 “elected” delegates.

If Michigan and Florida were seated, that would give Clinton 112 delegates and Obama 73 delegates from Florida and give Clinotn 73 delegates and Obama 55 delegates from Michigan.

That would put the “elected” delegate count Obama 1,619 and Clinton 1,517 delegates.

That means that even if Florida and Michigan were seated, Clinton would need to make up a 102 delegate deficiency in the remaining contests.

Those remaining contests are:

Guam (4)
Indiana (72)
North Carolina (115)
West Virginia (28)
Kentucky (51)
Oregon (52)
Puerto Rico (55)
Montana (16)
South Dakota (15)

That is a total of 408 delegates. In order to garner enough votes to overcome a 102 vote deficit, Clinton would need to win 256 delegates, or 63% of the delegates.

Since it appears that Obama will easily win North Carolina, it doesn’t look like she will be able to meet that goal. Even if she somehow manages a split with Obama in North Carolina, she would have to win 68% of the rest of the delegates.

With no “winner-take-all” contests there is no way she can pull that off.

The only way she can be the nominee is if she “steals” the nomination. And stealing the nomination from the first serious black candidate for President is, again, a recipe to destroy the entire party.

Having read all four Gospels uncountable times, I'm at a loss as to where Jesus says any such thing.

I think it's 2 Hatewhitey 7:13-16.

Either there, or in the Koran.

The super delegates are going to have a significant impact to this election. The Dems want to win in November. They aren't going to pick Obama over Hillary unless they think he can win.

Right now, she has the better case for electability.
