McCain moves to middle on health care (what a guy, why does this not surprise me)

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is proposing a greater federal commitment to people without health insurance on Tuesday, suggesting that it help funds states to set up non-profit risk pools to help Americans who are denied coverage or can’t afford it.

McCain’s health-policy experts provided a ballpark estimate of $7 billion a year for the new federal commitment.

“Cooperation among states in the purchase of insurance would … be a crucial step in ridding the market of both needless and costly regulations, and the dominance in the market of only a few insurance companies,” McCain says in remarks prepared for delivery Tuesday morning in Tampa, Fla.

What can we do to remedy the under and uninsured issue?

Looking for a conservative solution to a problem manufactured by liberals, is not conservatism at all.

That doesn't really answer the question, does it?

McCain is a traitor- to his party and he has supported questionable legislation.

This is nothing more than a retake of 1996 but at least Dole was more of a Conservative than McCain.

If McCain continues to attack the party he is running for... then you can say President Hillary Clinton. Now start practicing... because McCain does NOT know when to SHUT UP!

That's because it is a "when did you stop beating your wife" sort of question.

Let me spell it out: It IS NOT the Federal Government's problem.

Oh you’re just carrying on...a LOT of nice “conservatives” in AZ pressure McCain to keep the cheap labor here.......they ride his ass NOT to close the borders. The Dems of AZ want to be “nice” to the illegals...the Republicans want a steady source of low cost labor. Same set of pressures he’ll get as POUS.

No it isn't. It's a straight forward question looking for ways to help fix the problem. If you don't have any worthwhile suggestions or ideas, then you don't have a dog in this fight, IMO.

Still waiting on DManA's brilliant ideas though.

LadyNavyVet's answer in 74 demonstrates why there is no need to answer to your #37.

There is no answer to a question based on a flawed premise.

Almost all States have “high-risk” insurance pools for motorists with lots of tickets....this could work the same way for health care..and the MORE people in the pool....and consistant State application of the rules....the risk per person is spread around and costs go down.

Go down for who?

I assume you think spreading wealth around is also a good idea? How about spreading opportunity around?

Maybe we should just expand the pool to include Mexico, too. Then the costs should really go down! /s

I think it’s a good idea...particularly leaving it at the state level. It also doesn’t require everyone to sign up. At this point, unless hospitals start turning people away who come in to use the emergency room as a doctors office...you and I are footing the bill for these uninsured people.

The point is NO ONE PERSON is going to come up with a “brilliant solution”. Markets are the answer to health care just like so many other human needs.

Yes, that sounded pretty good when it was originally suggested by Duncan Hunter over a year ago and all through the campaign. Johnny come lately again. Well, at least he stole a good idea, too bad he doesn’t get the hint about immigration and MANY other issues.

I see you know nothing about how insurance works...so write me back after you’ve educated yourself.

“McCain is a Central and South American patriot.”

Nah... he's much bigger minded than that. He's a global patriot.

Then you'll continue to get the same abysmal healthcare you have, or worse (but, hey- look on the bright side, you'll have plenty of healthy anchor babies to mow your lawns and make your beds while your waiting to be treated). LOL!

There is absolutely no reason for anyone to think McCain will choose a conservative for VP. He has made it clear he wants someone who shares his “values”. He will choose on of his own blighted kind. Thinking McCain will do anything but betray and abuse conservatives is a denial of reality.

You didn't answer the question ("Go down for who?").

You said "the risk per person is spread around and costs go down."

You're not really trying to say that costs go down for everyone, now are you? If so, I suggest a course in elementary mathematics.

Where I come from, we don't call those "conservatives."

Same set of pressures he’ll get as POUS.

And as we get the same spineless response from McCain, he can expect the same fierce opposition from those who think that laws matter.
