WASHINGTON (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton now leads John McCain by 9 points in a head-to-head presidential matchup, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll that bolsters her argument that she is more electable than Democratic rival Barack Obama.
The survey released Monday gives the New York senator and former first lady a fresh talking point as she works to raise much-needed campaign cash and persuade pivotal undecided superdelegates to side with her in the drawn-out Democratic primary fight.
Helped by independents, young people and seniors, Clinton gained ground this month in a hypothetical match with Sen. McCain, the GOP nominee-in-waiting. She now leads McCain, 50 percent to 41 percent, while Obama remains virtually tied with McCain, 46 percent to 44 percent.
Both Democrats were roughly even with McCain in the previous poll about three weeks ago.
Since then, Clinton won the Pennsylvania primary, raising questions anew about whether Obama can attract broad swaths of voters needed to triumph in such big states come the fall when the Democratic nominee will go up against McCain.
Added Steve Lombardo, a GOP pollster: "This just reinforces the sentiment that a lot of Republican strategists are having right now -- that Clinton might actually be the more formidable fall candidate for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that Obama can't seem to get his footing back."

I can readily understand ANYONE having a strong distaste and disdain for McPain - remember I reference his credentials as “Questionable” with a capital “Q”...
I don’t consider him conservative at all - not even with a lower case ‘c’. In my eyes he is a nominal Republican on his good days.
But on an overall political continuum, the worst I think he rates is a moderate Democrat.
That is hard for me to willingly accept, because as my handle plainly states, I am an American “ARCHCONSERVATIVE” all the way to the core...
Compare that to the two ARCH-SOCIALISTS that he is pitted against, please!
You have valid concerns and I do not minimize them.
But it is not even funny to consider making such points at the expense of four years of our country’s future, when even one month’s worth of Hillary or Obama could prove an absolute unqualified disaster that might take years to rectify - or might be impossible to ever totally purge.
Make no mistake - I would rather have Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, Mike Pence, Marc Racicot, JC Watts, Mitt Romney... sitting where McPain is sitting right now.
But those choices are no longer available for this election cycle.
The best hope we have right now is that pressure is applied to McCain to choose a staunchly conservative VP running mate...one who is obviously significantly younger, and hopefully possessed of some degree of leadership and charisma.
McPain is 71; his age is at risk of being an issue now - in four years it will definitely be an issue and we will find ourselves doing this all again, as I wrote before.
Here and now, we need to defeat Hillary and Obama, leave them in the dustbin, and let history turn them into asterisks as it has Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Edwards, and Kerry.
A protest vote - a la H. Ross Perot - would likely ensure the election of one of two (and maybe TWO of TWO...) HARD-CORE Socialists who ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, 100% without a doubt, DO NOT have America’s best interests in heart or mind.
Yeah - ponder that for just a moment...
The WORST of ALL POSSIBLE outcomes - Hillary and Obama go behind closed doors at the Demo convention, and come out with a brokered deal, unified, and together on the same ticket.
A PERFECT STORM of PERFIDY, STUPIDITY, and INSANITY!
Every damn half-baked NUTJOB in the country who could hold a pencil long enough to make a mark would line up to vote for that ticket, “I may not get all of what I want right now - but I’ll get HALF, and half is a lot better than nothing. My guy/gal will put in 4/8 years, and then it’s ALL theirs for the taking!”
If elected, Hitlery would VERY possibly appoint her hubby as our Ambassador to the UN (It is no secret he has coveted such a post since he left the Oval Office - do you think a Demo-controlled House and Senate would vote him down?) and in short order, the US military would be all but totally beneath the umbrella of UN authority.
Our courts - including all newly appointed judges and any non-loyalist A.G.’s would be shuffled, restacked, and rapidly brought in line with the decisions and precedents of the World Court.
We already have 3 SCOTUS judges who tilt strongly that way in Stevens, Souter, and Bader-Ginsburg.
All it takes is 2 conservatives on the court to “pass on” suddenly and the next 2 appointees would be both ideologically frightening and rapidly confirmed. Then the muzzle of the “fairness doctrine” would be locked in place with full approval of all three branches.
Try airing a contrary opinion then!
Suddenly US soldiers and US citizens would be subject to summons, arrest/detainment, prosecution, and imprisonment OUTSIDE the USA for “War Crimes” real or imagined...possibly for environmental violations (crimes against the planet, anyone?) and worse.
The Constitution? OH, SORRY - What Constitution?
According to them, it is a LIVING DOCUMENT, remember? {Of course that is “progressive” code for:
“It has become outmoded, dated, and inconvenient [to us]. WE the INTELLIGENTSIA, need to TINKER WITH IT...for the COMMON GOOD”}
Remember, “Slick Willie” is on record with the money quote “I loathe...” the US military, and between he and the Hildabeest, every effort was made to neuter the armed services by reducing budgets, promoting incompetent officers who agreed with them, to facilitate turning the military into a grand social experiment.
Imagine a military with a bled-out budget, neutered by policy and political correctness, kept in line by a constant “You can’t do that” threat of World Court prosecutions.
It is not far-fetched. We were headed that direction in 1999. With altogether open borders, rampant politically correct repression of public debate, a collusive media, activist courts, and militant special interest groups of every stripe having a seat at the table ahead of the average American...
How could/would a defunded, demoralized, gelded military defend the US against “all enemies, foreign and domestic” in an age of global terrorism, having already been made subject to the domestic enemies?!
Obama? The brilliantly intelligent, but woefully inexperienced Socialist LIAR?
Is he even truly a US citizen? That still seems to be an open question. That he comes from a modern tradition of America-hating is clearly not in doubt anymore.
Barack is beholden to George Soros, and who knows how many other shadowy puppeteers funding his meteoric rise to pseudo-messiahship!
One other point - do any of us for a moment believe that neither Hillary nor Obama would prove to be a Second Amendment trashing “gun-grabber” upon taking office?!
Seriously...
A vote for McCain is hard to palate, not an easy way out - but better for the US in terms of risking far less damage, than the other two alternatives.
And you never know - he might pick a suitable VeeP, and then resign due to health difficulties, or pass on of natural causes early into the next four year term, leaving us with a strong, capable replacement. I would rather take that risk than the other two or three possibilities.
My vote is not “for sale” to McCain - but I am not willing to just give my country away, and I believe allowing Hillary or Obama - or both, to “ascend the throne” would be doing just exactly that.
Just my opinions and I hope I have articulated them persuasively, warmly, and without name-calling against my fellow FReepers...
FReegards to all,

“Putting the ARCH back into the raised eyebrow of intelligent Conservatism.”
I remember it like it was yesterday. But anyone who wants to claim that they have credentials for knowing how to run a campaign and then say that their experience is in running Barry Goldwater’s campaign cannot be taken seriously.
You back again? I thought you signed off twice already.
My memory is sharper than yours. The 1994 freshmen made Rush an honorary member, but Rush did not get them elected. It was Newt Gingrich’s strategy all the way. Not to mention that the Democrats had shot themselves in the foot, with the Post Office scandal and their sheer arrogance which turned off the voters. The time was right for the Republicans to take over and Newt’s Contract with America was a brilliant move.
I give up. Whose? (Is this like a knock-knock joke)?
Well, Rush put the brakes on OC today and may switch course, he says, tomorrow, telling everybody to vote for Obama.
So are we still trolls?
Okay, I don’t take you seriously either.
I have never referred to anyone as a troll. I don’t believe in name calling. I can make my points without resorting to calling names.
What I heard him say was that he WAS going to put the brakes on OC and tell everybody to vote for Obama, but now he is not so sure what he will do.
Not you, everybody else who went apeshit when some of us suggested OC stop supporting Hillary and switch to Obama.
Is it who’s or whose?
You are asking the wrong person. That particular post was a reply to another poster, and it was that poster’s quote that had the grammatical error.
Besides, what does that have to do with the issue at hand?
Actually, I have been asking the wrong person every time when I am replying to you. As with BLL it is like talking to a tree.
Probably, to all the dittoheads. LOL As far as I’m concerned, all the talk radio goofballs who keep pushing KAOS should have done this before PA.
It may be too late, however. As you know, The Clintons are like Terminators and are relentless. I’m still looking for their legion of lawyers to come into it. This is probably their only chance (best one, anyway), and I still maintain they’ll figure some manuver to get those Michigan and Florida delegates. They should have been taken out in Texas. It ain’t over ‘til it’s over, and I’m going to be sweating bullets until it finally is.
If Mrs. Clinton wins the nomination, it isn't going to be my fault. My objective was not to see that either of these two won specifically. One of them was going to. It was to see to it that just this kind of thing happened. Operation Chaos, a profound success, ladies and gentlemen.
But he later concedes:
we have declared an operational pause, pending study. You gotta have flexibility. You know, every battle cannot be planned from beginning to end because the minute you meet opposition, the plan changes. So we have always remained flexible with many, many options at our disposal. This is one of these that we did not foresee. In Operation Chaos, we did not foresee coming down the road that Obama would throw Wright off the planet. The operational pause has been declared while we engage in further strategy sessions to see where we go from here with Operation Chaos.
This will be a true test for Rushs motives. If he keeps using OC to push for Clinton victories hes proving that this is about getting her nominated even if Obama is the weaker candidate.
If, on the other hand, he now tells his OC operatives to help Obama, to insure that the chaos continues, then he will have somewhat redeemed himself.
Time will tell.
I’m glad you took the time and trouble to type all of that. I was thinking that, but didn’t feel like typing out the whole thing.
At least I don’t make ridiculous claims that I’m some sort of “expert” and use the Goldwater campaign as my bona fides. Goldwater was the worst defeated Republican in a presidential race in at least 50 years.
Just like any good Commander, you must make adjustments as tides turn. I sure as heck didn't see this coming. I think we will see within the next week what effect this has had on obama hussein.
Rush's conflicted battle between his ego, ratings and sheer power of mouth does not surprise me. What does surprise me is the blind following of his listeners who have for years proclaimed that they are not mind-numbed robots.
Have we, after all these years, not learned that we do not win against the Clinton machine? If not, what will it take?
With any chance we are given we need to help end the political careers of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton.
Even if it means going against Rush Limbaugh.
