WASHINGTON (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton now leads John McCain by 9 points in a head-to-head presidential matchup, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll that bolsters her argument that she is more electable than Democratic rival Barack Obama.
The survey released Monday gives the New York senator and former first lady a fresh talking point as she works to raise much-needed campaign cash and persuade pivotal undecided superdelegates to side with her in the drawn-out Democratic primary fight.
Helped by independents, young people and seniors, Clinton gained ground this month in a hypothetical match with Sen. McCain, the GOP nominee-in-waiting. She now leads McCain, 50 percent to 41 percent, while Obama remains virtually tied with McCain, 46 percent to 44 percent.
Both Democrats were roughly even with McCain in the previous poll about three weeks ago.
Since then, Clinton won the Pennsylvania primary, raising questions anew about whether Obama can attract broad swaths of voters needed to triumph in such big states come the fall when the Democratic nominee will go up against McCain.
Added Steve Lombardo, a GOP pollster: "This just reinforces the sentiment that a lot of Republican strategists are having right now -- that Clinton might actually be the more formidable fall candidate for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that Obama can't seem to get his footing back."

Assuming that's true, why should Rush-or any other conservative-be making things worse by helping her?
“And that ‘chaos’ is designed to accomplish what exactly....?”
Exactly what is occuring now. Chaos in the democrat party. If hill were not still in the race, there would be no chaos and you would be saying hello to your next muslim President.
They're clueless. We actually know other-wise normal people who will vote for Hillary. One of them is a small-business owner who owns guns and loves hunting. Go figure...
All the more reason to pull the plug on Operation Chaos long before she gets the Dem Nom.
And the chaos in the Democrat party is designed to accomplish what, exactly? I assume NOT chaos for chaos' sake, correct?
I have to respect a kitty who will sit still for a tinfoil hat!
“And the chaos in the Democrat party is designed to accomplish what, exactly?”
You’re pulling my leg, right?
Rush and his followers can't even keep the goal of OC straight. Have the people posting here in support of it think it's to nominate Hillary, whom they see as the 'weaker' candidate and the other half think it is to damage Obama before he gets the nomination.
Either Rush doesn't know what he's doing or he knows all too well that he's helping Hillary.
Well said, and Amen!
Can’t speak for Rush, but I want to see McCain back in Arizona, out of even a Senate job. So, I’m not hoping he’ll somehow squeak by without my vote. He is the destruction of our party.
"The objective (of OC) is to create chaos in their primaries, so whoever gets the nomination, the other's supporters are livid."
If this is the objective, I'd say that's been achieved, already. I don't think either side of the nomination fight will take defeat well. Maybe Rush should suspend OC and declare victory now, before Hil rises from the dead.
Okay, you win. I see your point now.
What, are we sheeple after all?
I listen to Rush daily. Nothing could make me register as a democrat to throw fake support to one candidate or another. The states with crossover primaries allowed the indies and some rats to give us McLame’s candidacy. I don’t like that, and am willing to be consistent.
Remember ‘92 when so many pubbies, rats and indies voted for the refreshing new guy, Perot. ‘Toon won with, what, 39% of the vote?
So you would rather have Hillary than McCain? I don’t think McCain is the greatest presidential candidate, but he is no way Jimmy Carter. You have a right to disagree with me, but I stand by my statements.
“The point you are missing is that we are finding out this information because of Operation Chaos.”
This same information could have been exposed AFTER Obama had secured the nomination.
Weaken Obama in the eyes of the electorate.
Weaken the Democrats in general.
Tire and demoralize grassroots Democrat activists.
Waste Democrat campaign funds and other resources.
Distract the Democrats from attacking McCain.
Sounds like the blame game to me. I remember the 1964 election. It wasn’t the liberal media that defeated Goldwater. It was Goldwater that beat Goldwater.
As far as the 1994 victory of the Repubs in Congress, that wasn’t Rush that got them elected. It was Newt Gingrich’s baby all the way. He developed a brilliant national strategy, and the timing was perfect.
True, it could have. The concern was that the RNC and McCain are so cowardly that it would not have been exposed. Also, Obama would have had more momentum and monolithic MSM support so the exposure would have been less effective.
“Whos campaign is Rush running?”
I think he thinks he’s running Hillary’s campaign.
I have no idea if General George Casey was a good strategist or not. But you obviously have an opinion on him. Perhaps you could enlighten me.
