WASHINGTON (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton now leads John McCain by 9 points in a head-to-head presidential matchup, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll that bolsters her argument that she is more electable than Democratic rival Barack Obama.
The survey released Monday gives the New York senator and former first lady a fresh talking point as she works to raise much-needed campaign cash and persuade pivotal undecided superdelegates to side with her in the drawn-out Democratic primary fight.
Helped by independents, young people and seniors, Clinton gained ground this month in a hypothetical match with Sen. McCain, the GOP nominee-in-waiting. She now leads McCain, 50 percent to 41 percent, while Obama remains virtually tied with McCain, 46 percent to 44 percent.
Both Democrats were roughly even with McCain in the previous poll about three weeks ago.
Since then, Clinton won the Pennsylvania primary, raising questions anew about whether Obama can attract broad swaths of voters needed to triumph in such big states come the fall when the Democratic nominee will go up against McCain.
Added Steve Lombardo, a GOP pollster: "This just reinforces the sentiment that a lot of Republican strategists are having right now -- that Clinton might actually be the more formidable fall candidate for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is that Obama can't seem to get his footing back."

I am astonished to be defending the water carrier for our big-government liberal president, but Rush won't get Hillary elected. Those who voted to nominate McCain are directly responsible for that.
Rush is not electing anyone. Obama is tanking due to his own efforts. You Rush bashers are pathetic in your efforts to undermine him, most of you, of course, are liberal plants here on FR, some of you are just idiots. Operation Chaos is a joke, meant to pi** off the dems and it is working apparently because people like you post at least one Rush bashing article per day on FR.
You have your opinion, and I have mine. Either way, this protracted primary is to our benefit. Unfortunately, we aren’t going to get a do-over on our side.
BTW, I think he gave a heads up to the Chaos folks in NC to stay tuned and not utilize the early voting. If Obama tanks in the next week I expect the call to go out in NC to vote Obama instead of Clinton.
Just a thought...
Couldn’t agree with you more BEL, but I really think Rush wants Hillary to win the White House, his Golden days were when the Impeached One was in the Oval Office and he would love to have an encore in Hillary.
These days Rush only seems to care about Rush, he is too much of a pompous ass recently.
Rush stays “Nutral” during the GOP primary but endorses the witch, this is non-sensical.
Obama is a severely wounded candidate, the press now realizes he can’t carry Florida, Ohio and Penn, which means McCain could have a much easier time against the marxist. Hillary will carry the big states.
I heard Savage last week statethat Hillary “has my vote” after playing an audio of her response to an attack by Iran on Israel. Michael Savage is another phoney.
Ooh. You caught me. The Dems planted me here back in 2001 (check my profile), and had me post regular articles bashing the left for the past seven years just so I could emerge from my sleeper cell and derail "operation chaos."
If this is an example of the brain power of the average "Operation Chaos" Freeper I think we can see why they don't realize what they're doing to our country.
Recently??? :-)
Nonsense. Rev. Wright was exposed by the right, not by Hillary. Nothing could have changed Obama into a white guy with a non-Muslim name, so he'd have that baggage. Nothing could change his liberal record, which McCain has blasted Obama on. All this has done is given Hillary a chance to heal the Democrat Party by the superdelegates. Hillary could compete in FL, PA, OH, etc. We should have been pushing Hillary off a cliff all this time. She's the threat. Not Barack Hussein Obama. Give me a break!
This campaign is McCain’s to lose. And, he’s doing a damned fine job of losing it.
Don't get so loose with your spelling or we'll lose the language AND the election. =)
Exactly.
If Juan Snidely Mcloon can’t beat kosovo rose, then the blame lies with Mcloon and the gop machine.
Scapegoat Rush for Mcloons weakness is nothing more than hyperkinetic spinning to deflect away from Mcloons inadequacies as a candidate.
If he actually does that, I'll begin to trust him again. But as it stands, the weaker Obama gets, the more he seems to take pleasure in Clinton's resurgence and the more he pushes her.
BTW, as an Indiana voter I have single handedly convinced close to 70 family and friends to show up for Hillary. ;-)
Loyal OC foot soldier.
Angry White Women And Dim Rubes vs. Black America, and the Limousine Libs. Peta fighting Grean Peace. The Kosacks and DU’rs vs Union Thugs. How sweet it is.....
08 is to be like 68.....
Burn Baby, Burn!!!
McCain opposed the MLK holiday and is actually more pro-war than Bush is (and blacks hate this war more than any other group). Black people would be happy to vote for Hillary to keep him out of office.
Ah, there's the trouble. Adults, national poll, rat oversample.
Useless AP poll, as usual.
Both Obama and Hillary are beatable. But McCain has got to win it. McCain's lack luster campaign and his tromping on conservative republicans has more to do with the change in numbers than anything Rush is doing
Rush has nothing to do with this, it's on McNuts!
Yup... all Rush did was keep the bit¢h in the race.
