What on earth has gotten into Nation Review and John Derbyshire? Maybe it’s just as well that Bill Buckley died when he did, so he didn’t live to see this.
Ben Stein is NOT attacking Darwin. He is taking the totalitarian intolerance of the ignorant fools who run our universities. He is not even saying that Intelligent Design theory is right, if I understand him.
He is saying that academics have gotten so bigoted and intolerant that they simply will not allow any diversity of opinion or arguments with their beliefs. And if National Review is so committed to the Darwinist theology that it thinks all discussion of the matter should be banned from our schools and universities, than I say it’s time to close NRO down. They made perfect fools of themselves during the presidential campaign, and here they are doing it again.
This isn't an NR editorial; it's a column by *one* of their regulars. Derb's opinions on this are not in the majority at NR.
As evidenced by this hateful, vicious, condescending article.
what you said.
The movie isn’t “pro-Creationist”.
It’s an expose’ of the tactics used by evos to keep out any sort of questioning of their doctrinal orthodox religion.
No, Ben Stein's attacking Western Civilization.
Western Civilization is predicated on the belief that objective knowledge can be accumulated by rational, testable means. Creationism -- which is a euphemism for rejecting the concept of science and scientific knowledge -- rejects that premise.
There is no controversy as far as the facts go. But creationists insist that there is, insist that their unequal, invalid view should be placed on an equal field with science, that there shouldn't be criteria for testing ideas and their validity. "Teach the controversy," they cry, as if our society were incapable of differentiating real from imagined, right from wrong. You call yourself after the great Roman orator and statesman, yet I think Cicero would have been appalled by a line or argumentation that rejects reason and inquiry.
That's simply inaccurate. If that had been what the film was about, it wouldn't have been entirely about ID.
I've got lots of beefs with our universities and what they teach. This was only about one.
Stein most definitely was attacking Darwin. Blaming him for Nazi Germany is not only ludicrous, but a vicious attack.
Shame on Ben Stein. And shame on his defenders who deny what he's doing.
“He is not even saying that Intelligent Design theory is right, if I understand him.”
It isn’t even a theory at all.
