Study Shows Republicans are Ketchup Freaks

Which condiment you favor when you lather your hot dog -- ketchup or mustard -- reveals your politics, according to a noted political scientist.

"People who mostly or entirely use ketchup are much more likely to favor the invasion of Iraq than those who use mustard," says Dr. Noah Frum, a senior fellow at the prestigious Institute for Political Advantage think tank.

"Red is an aggressive, war-like color, whereas yellow is much more passive and low-key, " he says. Dr. Frum conducted his study when one of the political parties, looking for an advantage in the upcoming November elections, came to him looking for new ways to identify possible supporters.

"We'd done the usual ones -- income, gender, education -- so we decided to focus on food."

Dr Frum gathered a number of subjects together, placed hot dogs and hamburgers in front of them, and gave them their choice of ketchup or mustard. Then he asked their opinions on a number of subjects, including the war in Iraq, terrorism and immigration.

"The ketchup eaters were much more likely to favor aggressive policies than the mustard-eaters," he says. "Their food preferences weren't the only thing that was 'yellow'."

I’m partial to the Miracle Whip/Ketchup combination.

I’m not much of a ketchup or mustard fan, but my favorite color is red. I must be a warmonger :)

lol My favorite color is red too. Used red and white for my wedding colors. I really mixed this study up because my bathroom is yellow. Oh my!

My bathroom is red. You must not be as conservative as me ;)

Hmmm, I painted my daughter’s room yellow ... hopefully I’m not unwittingly raising a liberal. Probably better than pink though.

My current favorite: Jack Daniel’s Spicy Southwest Mustard.

Well, there goes that hypothesis.

Let’s just say that on my heat scale at a 5 (starting to sweat) most people who think ketchup is spicy would probably be starting to show respiratory problems and complaining of holes in their gut with some of the sauces I love to pour on my food. But, I’m nice to my sensitive stomach Yankee relatives and give them fair warning that such things as even my BBQ sauce has a real “bite” so they can taste cautiously.

Well, yeah, I do like the whiskey...but the mustard’s not bad either.

My son thinks mustard is a food group, and he’s as blood thirsty and gun happy as his mother and I think ketchup is a food group! His father prefers mustard and is pretty laid back but DON’T make him mad!

It HAS to be American yellow mustard! (Though I like other mustards for other foods...)

I didn’t say “spicy”, just the acid causes problems for some people.

Call me a commie, but I prefer mustard, myself.

Ketchup is for french fries.

Sauerkraut doesn’t do it for me. I love Tabasco’s spicy ketchup, with Gulden’s golden brown mustard on hot dogs only. Otherwise the only other thing I’ll put on a dog is chili, onions and cheese, but not too often, or I have to sleep on the couch. Mustard preferences are: Spicy, for any German Wursts, and Dijon for sauces involving pork, or turkey. Catsup should only be reserved for eggs, frankfurters, or potatoes, and NEVER EVER EVER on steak of any kind. Shout out to DAVY’S HOT DOGS, off Rt 80 in Mt. Arlington, and Rutt’s Hutt in Clifton, Hiram’s and Callahan’s too.
