Father loses custody of son over lemonade

If you watch much television, you've probably heard of a product called Mike's Hard Lemonade.

And if you ask Christopher Ratte and his wife how they lost custody of their 7-year-old son, the short version is that nobody in the Ratte family watches much television.

The way police and child protection workers figure it, Ratte should have known that what a Comerica Park vendor handed over when Ratte ordered a lemonade for his boy three Saturdays ago contained alcohol, and Ratte's ignorance justified placing young Leo in foster care until his dad got up to speed on the commercial beverage industry.

Even if, in hindsight, that decision seems a bit, um, idiotic.

Ratte is a tenured professor of classical archaeology at the University of Michigan, which means that, on a given day, he's more likely to be excavating ancient burial sites in Turkey than watching "Dancing with the Stars" - or even the History Channel, for that matter.

Well I could give you my Mom’s eggnog recipe then you wouldn’t have to buy the icky stuff ;)

Thanks, but I prefer to buy the stuff . . . I do not love Eaker enough to actually make something from scratch. ;-)

When I was growing up, we went out to dinner every Sunday night at a ‘nice’ restaurant. You know, little girls all dressed up in patent leather Mary Janes and ruffled socks, the whole bit. My parents would always have a cocktail. I remember begging and begging for the cherry in my dad’s drink. He said “You don’t want that, you won’t like it” but all I could see was a maraschino cherry that was going to waste.

He finally gave it to me. YEEECCCCHH.

Frank Beckman, WJR Detroit, interviewed the father on his show this morning. The father said the sign advertised the beverage as “Mike’s Lemonade” and that the word “hard” was omitted from the sign.

Tell that to Twink. They're her moonshining cousins.

ROTFLMAO! At this point, I’m not too pleased with Eaker at the moment. He was definitely trying to fun me in his last post. Meanie ;) I almost fell for it.

I’m teasing. Eaker is wonderful (mostly, lol). You’re both very blessed :)

Jello shots recipe coming then Dage Red wine. :)

Again, he made an honest mistake, but it is not deceptive packaging at all.

Not on the store shelf, but certainly at the ballpark where it's packaged in plastic bottles similar to soda bottles. They don't sell it in glass at the ballpark for obvious reasons.

No they don’t, but the don’t have the word ‘hard’ as part of their name. Hard means alcohol of some sort.

Where did you pick up that twang, Twink? Ever been south of the Mason-Dixon?

LOL. I don’t have a twang ;) I have that harsh NJ/NY/Philly accent. But, it’s not really harsh, I certainly don’t sound like Jersey or Philly or New Yorkers :)

I have no accent tyvm.

Do you sound like Sylvester Stallone or Joe Pesci? Everybody east of the Ohio River sounds weird to me.

NO! Sly’s accent is strong and no I don’t sound like him. He’s more NY and North Jersey. Philly and South Jersery sound different.
