RENO, Nevada (AP) Outmaneuvered by raucous Ron Paul supporters, Nevada Republican Party leaders abruptly shut down their state convention and now must resume the event to complete a list of 31 delegates to the GOP national convention.
Outnumbered supporters of expected Republican presidential nominee John McCain faced off Saturday against well-organized Paul supporters. A large share of the more than 1,300 state convention delegates enabled Paul supporters to get a rule change positioning them for more national convention delegate slots than expected.
"I've seen factions walk out. I've never seen a party walk out," said Jeff Greenspan, regional coordinator for the Paul campaign.
Delegates cheered earlier in the day as former presidential hopeful Mitt Romney urged support for McCain. Later, though, Paul got even louder applause as he delivered his message of individual freedom and fiscal responsibility.
State Sen. Bob Beers, the convention chairman, was booed loudly as he called for a recess Saturday evening. He said that the party's rental contract for a big meeting room at a Reno hotel-casino had expired and there was too much work left to complete.

When 537 legislators wish to raise spending and you are the one that wishes to lower it the only way to get legislation passed is to ... raise spending. You're telling me that voting "yes" to a spending increase would constitute "accomplishing something"?
Get back to me when RP actually accomplishes something in Congress besides taking up space and voting no on everything.
Voting "no" to immoral and/or illegal legislation de facto accomplishes more than anyone else in Congress. Shall we compile a history of all of the bills that failed by one vote? Shall we compile a list of all the bills that failed by, say 2-5 votes and wonder just how much less statism there we be if we had just a few more like Paul in Congress? Shall we compile a list of all of the bills that would need a 2/3 vote to pass that President Paul would veto?
Or do you want to admit that you have no response?
You could train a monkey to do that.
Then what does that say about all of the other Congressman, especially the "small government" Republicans, that we can't even train them to do that much?
So he tacked on a slam dunk amendment to someone else’s bill that was going to pass anyway. Note there were no cosponsors on any of these “riders.” Just about all Congress critters toss stuff like this onto freight train budget bills all the time. It takes little effort and is expected, so they can have a fig leaf to hide behind when they go back to their constituents to claim they “did something” in Washington.
It’s a who different level of effort to initiate an original bill and fight for it to be passed. RP has never done that.
Way to move those goalposts! We’ve gone from “he accomplished nothing” to “those three examples are really only one, and that one is not an accomplishment anyway.”
Anyway, I got back to you with some examples, however lame. Now, why don’t you get back to me with some examples of these mythical Congressmen who have proposed and passed legislation to shrink the government, which somehow grew by over a trillion per year despite those successful leadership efforts. Who were these people, and how were their bills ultimately thwarted so that the explosive growth of government continued and expanded?
Threads like this alone should prove the futility of trying to convince someone who simply doesn't want to be. I only hope prosperity is kinder on us than Paul's detractors are on him.
