Republican candidate Keith Fimian has been able to raise more money than any of his four Democratic opponents in a fight for the congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Tom Davis (R-11).
Fimian, who contributed $325,000 to his own campaign, had raised $838,662 by March 31. Out of the Democrats, Fairfax Board of Supervisors chairman Gerry Connolly came the closest to Fimian, with $501,734 raised.

Keith Fimian appears to be a good candidate, and his ability to self-fund is one of the reasons that the retiring Tom Davis is supporting him.

It does have part of Prince William as well, so that helps.
Subtract the funds he donated to himself and his advantage is a paltry 13k. Not good considering the RNC is going to be turning the spigot off to the Congressional candidates in favor of McCain’s candidacy.
Keith is a good candidate. He is a good speaker, he is very presentable, he has a better platform than Davis ever did. He’s got a compelling life story, and the biggest democrat blogger in the state loathes the democratic front-runner and trashes him daily.
And if the other major dem candidate wins the primary, she is such a lefty that we still have a chance to win this seat.
It’s going to be really difficult, but I am so happy that I have a candidate I can actively support, rather than Tom Davis who I would have opposed for his antics on the war last year.
He is first. Who cares if it is by 13k. The point is that we have a candidate, while the democrats have 4 candidates fighting it out.
In your response you answered your own question - even though he is the GOP candidate, one of the FOUR Democrats running nearly matched his totals. Or to put it another way the combined Dem fundraising almost equalled a $1,000,000. And again, the RNC, in order to finance McCain, isn’t going to be able to help him and the other Congressional GOP candidates later on i.e. their primary is over and they’ve coaleasced around a candidate. Not good.
I don’t know why you think the RNC isn’t going to fund anything other than McCain.
Since we aren’t giving money to the RNC, who cares? There’s also the NRCC, and Keith is having his own fundraising.
And Tom Davis was an excellent fundraiser as well.
His biggest problem is that the democrats have better name recognition.
Darn, I was hoping that my home town would do the right thing for a change. It's not been the same since they tore down the old bank at the corner of Lee Highway and Route 7. And cut down the old hangmans tree.
McCain’s fundraising strategy has already been posted on FR though I wasn’t able to find the link. Here is a related article:

What little money the RNC will be able to raise, the vast majority will go to McCain. One serious consequence being underfunded Congressional candidates who will suffer electorally.
Really? I wrote this one off.
